And we think we have issues here at home….

Myanmar Under Duress: Myanmar is part of Southeast Asia, next door to Burma.

In the past few weeks, the military decided to stage a coup and dispose of the legitimate leader while installing someone they wanted in his place.

https://www.myanmar-now.org/en/news/at-least-three-killed-as-anti-coup-protesters-wave-womens-clothing-in-defiance-of-military-0

From the article: The Myanmar military continued to terrorize peaceful anti-coup demonstrators with lethal force across the country on Monday, killing at least three protesters and severely injuring many others.

The attacks came after soldiers and police came out in force in Yangon on Sunday night in anticipation of another day of mass protests.

Security forces stationed themselves inside hospitals, pagoda compounds and universities in Yangon and other major cities.

Gunfire and stun grenade explosions were heard at night in numerous Yangon townships in what appeared to be a bid to terrorize the city’s population.

But anti-military demonstrators still took to the streets on Monday morning, rallying around yet another call for a general strike, this time to coincide with International Women’s Day.

There is much more going on there since the military staged its coup and sent the people of Myanmar into protesting the illegal takeover of the legitimate government. Expect more turmoil there in days to come. But don’t read too much into it, or compare it to what is going on here. These disturbances are cropping up in many places that were previously peaceful and off the map.

Meantime, Putin’s most prominent opponent, Alexei Navalny, has been sent to a penal colony, which is a polite term for “gulag”, if you recall Solshenitzyn’s “Gulag Archipelago”.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/alexei-navalny-russia-prison-jail-b1809527.html

From the article:  With rumours finally confirmed that Alexei Navalny will be spending at least the first part of a two-and-a-half-year jail term in the infamous penal colony no 2 (IK-2) in Vladimir region, a previous inmate has a message for the incoming prisoner.

“Prepare to be cut off from humanity,” he said.

Konstantin Kotov, an activist who spent over a year in IK-2, 60 miles east of Moscow, says the choice of the harsh jail is no accident.

Some colonies in Russia are hands-off, with prisoners allowed to dictate their own timetables. Others are run by the inmates themselves. In the most relaxed, prisoners even manage to record hip-hop records.

Not in IK-2. Here, every conversation is observed, mobile phones are banned, emails are blocked and the prisoners have to comply with an exhausting regime that leaves little or no time to themselves. – article

And, finally, Vlad Putin disputes what Biden said recently about the Kremlin.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/russia-kremlin-joe-biden-speech-b1798116.html

From the article:  The Kremlin has criticised a speech made by US president Joe Biden as “aggressive, unconstructive rhetoric” and warned it would not tolerate any ultimatums imposed by the US.

On Thursday, in his first diplomatic address as president, Mr Biden issued strong condemnation of Russia’s Vladimir Putin and said the US’s days of “rolling over” to him are gone.

Mr. Biden also called for the immediate release of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was jailed for three years earlier this week after surviving a poisoning some have claimed was ordered by the Kremlin.

The (sitting) US president used his first visit to the State Department in his role to make clear to the world his administration was making a dramatic turn away from Donald Trump’s approach to Russia. Mr. Trump avoided direct confrontation and often sought to downplay Mr Putin’s actions. – article

Now, while I do not recall Trump “rolling over” to Putin, the difference between Trump and Biden is that Trump, as a businessman, knows how to get something out of his opposition. “Tough talk” by Biden is mostly air, and we all know it.

Biden’s dog bit one of the Secret Squirrels and he was sent back to Delaware. A good dog owner first establishes him/herself as the pack leader. My Shepherd Bandit never bit anyone and had a Best Friend barn cat I had named Zowie. They chased each other like nutballs and spent a lot of time on the couch, criticizing my choice in reading material and TV shows, but neither Bandit nor Zowie ever bit or scrached anyone because they both knew who was the pack leader.

In this case, it is not the person sitting in the Oval Office.

President Sniffy is only doing as his Chinese Communist handlers are telling him to do. They must be paying Hunter more than his gas gig was paying. The more he stirs up the talk about the Russian Bear, the less attention will be paid to the Chinese Dragon.

Remember when we had a President that was putting America FIRST? Pepperidge Farms Remembers…so do I.

There is no second amendment in Burma or Russia. Nuff said.

rgr769

It is really eazy-peazy for an armed force to control an unarmed populace. All it has to do is shoot enough people, especially the leaders, and it is game over.

This country is an aberration in that it is the only nation with a Second Amendment or its functional equivalent.

Wireman611

I understand that Czechoslovakia is making a second amendment like addition to their constitution. Let us also not forget Switzerland.

Here is an innocent video that captures the beginning of the coup at 1:48.

Never figured out which side should be supported in Burma. Had several friends very well informed on the subject. Some very objectionable stuff on both sides. Or several sides. Or something, depending.

Putin knows the same nonsense about Biden and his family as we do. Probably even more. Would expect him to react as an alpha male.

I still can’t figure why Navalny went back to Russia. He had to have known he would be arrested.

Hey, it’s the only homeland he’s got. Russians be romantic like that.

“By the old Moulmein Pagoda, lookin’ eastward to the sea,
There’s a Burma girl a-settin’, and I know she thinks o’ me;
For the wind is in the palm-trees, and the temple-bells they say:
“Come you back, you British soldier; come you back to Mandalay!”
Come you back to Mandalay,
