I wonder who will be FIRST to claim the Crown. There can only be ONE!

Commissioner Wretched

Darn if I just missed being FIRST!

Commissioner Wretched

Since I won’t be FIRST, and the King of Battle remains on his rightful throne, how ’bout some trivia? DID YOU KNOW…? Was a chimpanzee once the co-host of a national television news program? By Commissioner Wretched didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com I want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt “Thank you.” For all of you who take a moment or two out of your day to read this silly stuff I write, and then let me know what you think of it in an e-mail (the address is under my name), you have my gratitude. You may never know how much it means to me to realize that someone gets a laugh, a chuckle, or even a frown out of the nonsense I spout. If, at any time over the past four or so years, you’ve taken a moment to enjoy this column – even if you haven’t said so – please know that I am most appreciative. Some of you even share this column with friends and relatives who don’t get our newspapers, and that’s the best bonus of all. My deepest thanks and gratitude to you all! Now, on with the show … Did you know … … it is illegal in the state of Illinois to do any “fancy riding” on a bicycle? Riding without hands, taking your feet off the pedals, and other assorted methods of showing off are against the law in Illinois. (Having grown up riding bicycles in Chicago, I can state for the record that this law is rarely enforced.) … you can have a lot of fun with tyromancy? In case you were wondering, tyromancy is foretelling the future by observation of the fermentation and coagulation of cheese. The patterns of mold were used to predict rain, love, money, and even death. Young maidens, for instance, would divine the names of their future husbands by writing their names on pieces of cheese, and the one which became moldy first would be their ideal love mate. (It’s going to be a gouda year.) … one of the biggest box-office hits in history was cancelled… Read more »

CW My Man. Another fine presentation of Trivia. Back yonder, when I could still work for a living, I usually couldn’t get around to the WOT until maybe Sunday Evening or maybe Tuesday night. Had a crew member that never could figure out why I knew all of these obscure tid bits. He was a big time, bar hopping trivia player. Kept telling the boy he needed to get out more and follow the TAH Website. He ain’t done it yet. Ironically enough he was also a Gun Bunny in the ETO right at and during the end of the “Cold War”. No wonder he only made E-3 after 4 years of Service.

I check you out every week and forward it on to at least a dozen or more friends and family. Keep up the good work!

I guess Imma gonna have to just leave my machine off from about 1500hrs till 1630hrs on Fridays. I can afford the food for the Buffet Bar, but damned if the Class VI Supplies is killing me. I tried switching to having only Bud Lite, but the stocks got dusty ’cause Slow Joe would never stop by. Had to trade a 6 to 1 ratio to the Cold Beer distributor to get them out and bring in some Yuenglings. And boy did Pappy, The Stranger bitch when there wasn’t any decent Cold Beers.

Switching to Daylight Savings Time is as big a scam as GloBull Warming. And is as aggravating as a certain spapos.

Commissioner Wretched

Thank you for the kind words, KoB! And many, many thanks for helping the column get out there in the so-called “real” world.

I really ought to collect this stuff into a book or syndicate the column, or maybe both!

David

Speaking of news, Roger Mudd died this week. He is credited with derailing Teddy’s run for President in 1990 (by asking Kennedy why he wanted to be President: which stumped him. I am guessing he was trying to think of an alternative word to ‘birthright’.)

As the old Indian chief said “only damn white man stupid enough to think you tear one end off blanket, sew it back onto other end, you get longer blanket!”

Can I still tell that one? Or is someone offended? )Cuz you know I’,m real concerned about that…)

Thunderstixx

Another great collection of stuff you never need to know, but enjoy learning about it and passing it on to others that also appreciate the little known events, people and other useless facts and follies !!!
Truly a great lot of fun for all of us !!!

Hack Stone

This is something that keeps Hack Stone up at night wondering, and now you will too, but when the idea for an incandescent came about, did a light bulb appear above the head of Thomas Edison (or Sir Joseph Swan)? Prior to the invention, maybe it was a brilliant idea was represented by a candle.

Hack Stone

According to Al Gore’s Amazing Internet, this link says the first use of a lightbulb to represent an idea was Felix The Cat. It does not cite the year or specific film, though.

Fyrfighter

Felix the cat! and his bag of tricks.. probably my favorite cartoon as a kid!

Ex-PH2

I have to stick my oar in here, too.

Soemtimes, the Commish comes up with stuff I never knew existed. Then I go looking it up and wonder how I missed it. A wealth of knowledge lies there, and yeah, I think it could easily be turned into a “Did You Know About This…?” kind of book (or series of books) that would keep people amused when they’re shut in for prolonged periods.

It’s kind of like the Days of the Caveman: you’re stuck indoors because there’s a blizzard going on, the mastodons have all gone over to the next valley and they dire wolf pack is outside howling at the wind, so you and your friends get busy and start putting pictures on the wall so that you can brag about that time two of you took down the Irish deer and dragged that overfed thing home for dinner.

KoB

I done TOLD y’all I ain’t a’gonna leave that Orphaned TAH Weekend Open Thread just a’laying there forever. Gave it a full minute of time before I even starting typing the above comment.

You gotta play to win! Another EARNED TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread FIRST to the King of Battle. I guess this one will be Awarded, not EARNED to someone else. This may even be another Three (3) Pete.

No problem, the Class VI Spirits Locker and the Buffet Bar is open.

Green Thumb

The False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) willingly takes it in the ass as he steals from the American Taxpayer through his procurement of government-funded contracts based upon his false and potentially felonious Native American, Navy SEAL and Law Enforcement claims.

I miss Psul.
Kinda like I miss Bernath…him I do not, I’m glad he’s gone but Psul…
I miss him like an old slipper, or chew toy or pair of worn, stretched out, dirty, ripped, unlaundered spandex.

You know how it is. 😀 😀 😀

Hack Stone

How do you think Hack feels? He still reports dutifully each morning to the Corporate Headquarters to get a box of Red Hat Software to sell at the River Road/I-495 ramp, but the Vice President is long gone, and the only things remaining is a rust stain in the driveway that is the same dimensions of a 1980’s Jaguar and the stench of failure throughout the building.

ChipNASA

Right behind you fuckers.
I was in the other room resetting the WiFi and then came back and BOOM, WoT.
So at least I’m here and you people are still TURDS!!!
(HT to GT) ceptin’ the Ladies.
So hearty fuck you to the rest of you.
Top 5.
At least I got 1 box (the limit) of Browning 22lr from Bass Pro today so it was a good day. (I mean, at a reasonable price, $.07 ppr)

Have a lovely weekend.

Top Ten!

Hack Stone

Hack Stone would have checked in earlier, but he was busy making cold calls this afternoon promoting a sale that the Vice President of the proud but humble woman owned business that sells software to the federal government formerly located in Bethesda Maryland came up. Tying into the popularity of former President Trump, we are publicizing our Make America Buy Outdated Red Hat Software Again. This may just be what we need to turn this company around.

Graybeard

Top 10 distinct commentators.

Just finished working on Eldest Granddaughter’s plumbing. She should have water (and hot water!) now.

USFS doing a prescribed burn nearby – air full of smoke.

Found 45ACP on the shelf (for a reasonable price!) yesterday.

The GB Compound AO experiencing spring temps, plants trying to recover from the freeze (it may have killed a lot of our pines as well as other flora & fauna). Gotta weed the garden now.

Y’all have a great weekend!

David

9th with the 14th comment… out in the garage repolishing an old Ford truck grill and knocked over a fresh unopened can of stain. Well, it was unopened… now it’s all in the trash can along with a towel I liked. Grr…thing blew open like a cartoon.

Thunderstixx

Well…..
I’m a bit of a skeptic when it comes to repeatable contest results.
Although I’m not calling anything in particular, I have reached the point where I am doubtful that there are no shenanigans going on.
I’m probably wrong about that, but it’s no fun anymore even checking this out because we all know that KOB will be the first, yet again…
Even if it is above board, it’s just no fun anymore watching a 75-0 pasting of the Green Bay Packers over the Chicago Bears like will be happening this year !!!!!
So call me anything you want, if it is above board, I believe that it’s greedy to pull first for months and months in a row……
Sorry, but that’s the way I feel.
I’ve been trying to get fukbuk, twithoe and a lot of other left wing klowne sites to toss me off, permanently, but I do wonder if I get thrown off of here for finally saying something that I am certain others are feeling too…..
Sorry, not sorry…..

That’s a lot of clocks: What Time Is It ,Jive Five 1962 Beltone label.

Hack Stone

If Daniel Bernath was still with us, he would be setting his pkane’s fuel gauge ahead one gallon.

rgr769

And he would reset his altimeter another six feet below ground level.

Hack Stone

Just a reminder to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday. Failing to do so may make you late for church Sunday morning, and that can lead to Mass Confusion.

Only 29 posters as of 1330 on Saturday.
Looks like some people have given up on the WOT now…..
It used to be well over 100 by this time on Saturdays.
I wonder why ????
Hmmmm……

Commissioner Wretched

Well, it can’t be the trivia …

… can it?

Don’t know about others, but I’ve been pretty busy today and finally got the opportunity to check in.

******* PREVIEW OF COMING ATTRACTIONS *******

**************************************************************

The rumor mill informs us that a SV case will be presented here on Monday 15 Mar 2021 for your examination and scrutiny.

After much dotting “i”s and crossing “t”s the case is ready for prime time. A politician, no less. There was an effort to reach out to him and get his side of the story so a week was given. No response yet.

The proverbial boot is about to drop. When the bell rings, somebody’s going to have to stay after school. Pick your metaphor.

Good. The Verified Valor Vultures page hasn’t had an entry in quite a while.

I suspect many, if not most, of us come here to read about and ridicule the fake military phonies.
