Investigators say deputy and homeowner both fired in Chattaroy shooting

CHATTAROY, Wash. — In their latest update, investigators said a property owner and a Spokane County deputy both fired during a shooting in Chattaroy.

The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team has taken over the investigation since the incident on Sunday night, but up until Wednesday, had not indicated that the property owner had fired a weapon.

According to authorities, thefts had been reported at a property along E. Grouse Rd and the owner had asked the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office to conduct prowl checks.

The property owner had returned to the area, but had not informed the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said Sunday. He confronted Deputy Craig Cupo in the doorway of the building and both of them fired shots.

The property owner was struck by a bullet and Cupo was uninjured. At this time, authorities have not said whether Cupo was in a marked car or if he identified himself as a law enforcement officer during the interaction.

“he had ultimately used it at one point to kill four Japanese soldiers up in the mountains”

Those must have been long painful deaths.

Not necessarily—remember President Reagan was almost killed by a ricochet from a .22 revolver.

You might be surprised at how many people are killed with that little round.

Maybe not “DRT”, but not far away.

Heh heh! Good Doggie Coral, indeed! I’d like to buy her a T-Bone Steak Dinner my ownself. This story was submitted as both a FGS and a Dumb Crook News. Gotta be a special kinda dumbazz to ride around with multitudes of drugs in a vehicle with expired/canceled registration. Every jurisdiction has them tag reader things now.

Speaking of dumbasses, what kinda dumbazz comes up on a popo that has been called to handle a situation toting a firearms? That’s a real good way to get your dumbazz self shot. Mission accomplished!

Great story on the Marlin 39. Emphasizes what we talk about here all the time. ie; “Bring any and every weapon to bear”, “…you gotta get mad dog mean…” “If you think you gonna die, at least try to sell your life dearly.” “Headbutt the Hangman!” (ht 2 11B)

“If you are gonna fight, fight like you’re the third monkey
on the ramp to Noah’s Ark”

My 39 was the first gun I ever bought (hard-earned grass mowing money) and will be the last I will ever sell. Will easily shoot 3/4″ groups at 50 yards, 1/2″ on a good day. Get a deer with a shot through a thin spot in its skull? If you can hold it, the 39 will put it right where you hold it.

“Get a deer with a shot through a thin spot in its skull?”

Not in Maine:

“Illegal equipment: Deer may not be hunted with the use of dogs, artificial lights, snares, traps, set guns or any firearm using .17 or .22 caliber rimfire cartridges, except that .22 caliber rimfire magnum cartridges are permitted”
