Twiggs [GA] deputy arrested after stealing money from evidence

Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents arrested a Twiggs County Sheriff’s deputy after the GBI says he stole more than $1,500 from the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office evidence room.

GBI agents identified the deputy as 51-year-old William “Chip” Samuel Stokes of Laurens County. They charged him with Theft by Taking and Violation of Oath of Office.

Investigators say Stokes was a Major with the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office until he was terminated on Monday.

What led to the arrest

• On December 17, 2020, Twiggs County deputies conducted a traffic stop and recovered money. Deputies counted the money on video, packaged it, and later secured it in the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office evidence room.
• On January 11, 2021, someone alerted the Twiggs County Sheriff that the money taken during the traffic stop could not be accounted for. Sheriff’s Office personnel conducted several audits and searches of the evidence room but could not locate the money in question.
• On January 15, 2021, Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum requested the help of the GBI to conduct a criminal investigation into a theft of more than $1,500 from the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office evidence room.

During the GBI investigation, agents discovered Stokes had taken the money from the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office evidence room.

Man with ankle monitor from ongoing child porn case arrested again in undercover child sex sting

After two men were arrested for allegedly arranging to have sex with an undercover FBI agent posing as a juvenile Wednesday evening, investigators with the Louisiana State Police discovered one of the suspects was wearing an ankle monitor stemming from another recent arrest involving child porn accusations.

Jamie Sousa, 26, of Ponchatoula was already facing 30 counts of pornography involving juveniles and was awaiting trial in that case, which is being prosecuted by the state Attorney General’s office, State Police said in a news release Thursday morning. He was arrested about a year ago on those counts.

The second person arrested Wednesday is Dexter Schexnayder, 47, of Deridder.

Both Schexnayder and Sousa are accused of arranging via a social media app to meet up with the FBI agent posing as a juvenile, planning to have sex. They were taken into custody after arriving at the meeting location, State Police said.

They were booked into East Baton Rouge jail on the following counts: indecent behavior with a juvenile, computer aided solicitation of a minor and attempted felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Ogunquit [ME] selectman accused of drunken driving and then stealing his impounded car

An Ogunquit selectman has been accused of drunken driving and then stealing his own car from an impound lot the same day.

John M. Daley, 57, has been charged with operating under the influence, burglary and theft, according to the Portsmouth Herald.

Daley was pulled over on Post Road in Wells on the afternoon of Jan. 18 and arrested for operating under the influence. He was released that day on his own recognizance, the newspaper reported.

His gray 2017 Cadillac XT5 was towed and impounded at Brown’s Service Center. The next morning, the business’ owner discovered that Daley’s vehicle was missing from the lot and reported it stolen, according to the Portsmouth Herald.

When police went to Daley’s Ogunquit home, they found the Cadillac in his garage, according to the newspaper.

He was scheduled to appear in York District Court on the burglary and theft charges on March 5 and on the OUI charge on May 18.

It’s not Daley’s first OUI charge, according to the Herald. In 2019, he was charged with OUI, but that was later dropped and he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of driving on the wrong side of the road. Daley told the Herald last year that he wasn’t driving at the time, but was just pushing a moped with its engine turned off.

Naked Florida man stole, crashed police car

A naked Florida man stole what news footage showed to be a marked police vehicle and crashed it in a wooded area, officials said.

Joshua Shenker, 22, was arrested after Thursday’s crash on charges including theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, depriving an officer of means of communication or protection and resisting an officer without violence, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office report.

Officers responded to reports of a naked man running along Interstate 10 in western Jacksonville shortly before noon Thursday. Shenker was lying in the the roadway when an officer stopped on the opposite side of the route, the report said. Shenker then ran across the highway lanes toward the officer, officials said.

The redacted report didn’t say how Shenker stole the vehicle. Authorities confirmed only that a vehicle belonging to the City of Jacksonville was stolen. First Coast News footage of the scene showed the crashed vehicle to be a marked patrol car.

According to the police report, about $10,000 worth of damage was done to the vehicle.

Officers noticed Shenker had road rash after the crash and he was taken to a hospital to be checked out, authorities said.

Shenker was being held on $4,011 bail. Jail records didn’t list an attorney for him.
