Weekend Open Thread

| December 31, 2020

From Austin Food Magazine, New Years Eve Champagne

The weekend open thread comes early again this week. Remember the water back method for partying tonight. For every volume of alcohol, drink an equal volume of water. This is just a minimum. Enjoy your partying.

FIRST on the Last WOT

KoB

Welp, I wuz right…and wrong! Right in that thebesig was a gonna drop this early…right in that you have to play to win…wrong on HOW EARLY the last Weekend Open Thread of the year 2020 was gonna drop. The rain moving in has slightly delayed my provision run into the little big town. Was just checking the emails before the departure when this dropped. Better to be lucky than good, I guess. I gave a 30 count before typing and another 30 count before hitting post and still came out FIRST.

For all the whiners and haters, rest assured this will be the last FIRST of Open Threads in 2020 for the Ol’ Gun Bunny, The King of Battle, THE King of FIRSTs! A most Happy and Safe New Years Eve to all of my beloved Sisters and Brothers of the TAH Family.

SALUTE!!!!

ChipNASA

Right back at ya bitch!! Con-Agra on the last WoT of the year.
I mean, it’s not like it’s a big deal or anything.
How many of the TAH regulars are even *UP* at this hour?? *giggle*.

I was in a meeting for the last half an hour or so and then thought I’d check across my browser tabs and such.

OK, so I’m here. YAY!! Actually, I’m glad this year is over but pleased because one thing came out of it. ME. Sober. Clear headed. A new gun. Many thousands of rounds of ammo. (shhhhhhh)
AND a profound respect for the World and how things can just go right out the fucking window and yet, we Improvise, We Overcome, We Adapt.
We’ll be OK going forward.
Tomorrow is another day. I plan to discard the rest of my 2020 explosives tonight so I have a reason to go over the PA line in the near future (other than to purchase high capacity magazines and such, Thanks PRoMD (FUCK YOU!) ) to buy more fireworks later in the year.

I’m glad to rack up another year associated with you dickheads and to welcome new members to the family, “Only Army Mom” for one, it I’m not talking out of my ass, that she’s “newish”, if she weren’t lurking well before that.

Anyway, I still miss Jonn and am glad to be part of this group.
Happy New Year and we’ll see you bright eye’d and bushy tailed tomorrow.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman

Only Army Mom

Chip, thanky, thanky for the hat tip! I sincerely appreciate being welcomed into this most deplorable family. Yeah, I was a long time lurker, sort of. And I miss Jonn too though me thinks he would be proud of how his heirs have carried on.

Roh-Dog

Horse pucky!
Happy last day of the calendar for the year 2020 Day!

Commissar

Joe Clark passed away.

https://youtu.be/dUWyTT0nX_c

gitarcarver

Sorry to hear that.

Clark was hired by the City of Baltimore to reproduce the success he had in New Jersey.

The Baltimore School Board and teachers’ union cut him off at every pass. He finally resigned saying “if you didn’t want me to educate your kids, why did you hire me?”

Fyrfighter

RIP sir.. a true educator, all too rare a thing these days

HMCS(FMF) ret

Yep… public educations needs a lot more people like Joe Clark…

26Limabeans

Well….first…I guesss…

Claw

No guesssing needed. You are officially entered into the Coveted Book of WOT Firsts as being the initial entry. This mornings other claim to “First” has been DEFECTED/DEFAULTED.

Although this may be the last entry in the six year old, 14 page Coveted Book, as a book burning in the backyard snow bank could occur tonight at 2359 hours. Haven’t yet made up my mind as to whether or not to continue maintaining a hand written quick reference log for all commenters to reference when needed.

ChipNASA

Holy shit Claw, that needs to go into some sort of electronic database, like an excel spreadsheet.
You’re a GOD for maintaining 14 fucking pages of our “FIRST” bullshit, and being able to reference it like “TAH DAH!!” in a few minutes.
Fuckin’ BRAIN TRUST

ChipNASA

Fuckin’ “bold HTML fucking” command carrot default shit”

I WISH WE HAD AN EDIT KEY FOR 2021 …although, I know Psul-like drunkin ramblings would disappear, if that were the case, so I’ll just post bitchy after comments as necessary.

KoB

“…some sort of electronic database,..”

You mean like this? The inherwebz are forever.

https://valorguardians.com/blog/?cat=221

Claw

Yeah, Well, that’s all fine and dandy if somebody wants to go scrolling back through entry after entry to settle a claim.

For example, the handwritten book can reveal in about two or three seconds that on the WOT for 03 Feb 2017 the people who posted “First” at the same time stamp were ex-OS2, CWO5USMC, ChipNASA, Mick and David.

Electronics are OK up until the power goes out, but a pen and ink ledger is forever./s

David

Always a bridesmaid (sniff)…

Claw

Not always. You scored a “First” on the 15 Sep 17 WOT, unless there’s another David who comments here.

David

Nope, that was me… I decided to really try once. Most of the rest of the time I am working and only roll back on by accident.

Claw

The Book also has you down for a DEFECT/DEFAULT “First” on 24 Jan 20.

KoB

Roger that Supply Daddy, Imma all about a written record. Hell, I was the last person in the world to get dragged, kickin’ & screamin’ into the 20FIRST Century and the amazin’ algorebull WWW. ’bout ’09 IIRC when a gifted old laptop and another upcomin’ grandbaby put a modem into COP CRCTR. Lurked there for a few years and upgraded when I brought Firebase Magnolia online. Still got a flipper phone and a land line tho.

Suit the hell out of me if the Coveted Book of FIRST was engraved on the side of Stone Mountain. Might as well have something on there, the War Memorial will be blasted off soon enough.

AW1Ed

Your book, Claw. It would be kind of a shame to lose the quick reference and historical data therein. Could you see fit to record the log electronically, first? Six years is above and beyond for maintaining it, and adjudicating the inevitable disagreements.
So, is there a member or members willing to pick up the torch, if Claw hangs it up for a well deserved retirement?

Graybeard

When I was working and maintaining the records of Stolen Valor claims by branch and MOS, I used an Excel spreadsheet. I think I may have transferred it to my home computer when I had to leave work (blamed cancer!).

Makes life a lot easier to me.

ChipNASA

Yeah, FUCK *THAT* NOISE!!!

2021 better bring the fucking shit….in a good way…. if not, strap on your giant purple dildoes (or dildos, both are correct) and get ready for action because….well, I’m going off the rails…
I’ve had enough of this Covid and all the other bullshit…

“For every volume of alcohol, drink an equal volume of water”

That would result in a 50% alcohol drink.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

USAFRetired

50% alcohol is 100 Proof

SFC D

So, you’re saying 100 proof is already the perfect proportion..,

Hondo

It would, but of significantly smaller volume than before. 250ml water plus 250ml ethanol results in approximately 480ml of solution.

Why? The ethanol and water molecules hydrogen-bond together somewhat closer with fewer (relative) voids than either alone, resulting in an overall volume “shrinkage” of about 4%.

Well, it’s been 7 years, with the occasional interruption by a deceased mordant idiot who flew planes into the ground for cash (yeah, THAT one) and it’s been fun, and I ain’t giving up on doing stuff.

Went to the lake up near the stateline last night and watched the geese parachuting in, to a large open water spot, to join the party that was going on. They’re still there this morning, still partying and some of them are throwing themselves into the water and doing wing flapping exercises.

Party on, geese!

And no, I’m not skipping the Thursdays cooking thingy. That will be coming up.

Hack Stone

Are those geese social distancing and wearing the appropriate face masks? If not, someone need to notify the proper authorities to break up this super spreader.

If you’re going to use the required steel shot you might want to upsize to around #4.

A few years ago one of the ammo makers brought out a line of bismuth shot as an alternative to steel. Is it still available.

Fyrfighter

Yep, bismuth shot is still available, as are tungsten, and a number of other “non-toxic” options.

Flagrant fraud:

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/12/incriminating_facts_emerge_from_a_georgia_hearing_the_media_buried.html

The shredding of original ballots is damning. Long-standing legal precedent is that destruction of evidence is indicative of guilt.

Commissar

Throwing out the democracy is not the “cure”, you traitor fuckwit.

11B-Mailclerk

Following the Constitution is treason, eh? The one you swore to uphold?

You are a disgrace.

Commissar

Though I do love the fact that this will cause republicans to have to go on record, permanently, as either loyal to a malignant grasping despot, or loyal to the country and the will of the American people.

Because of his cult, dimwits like you, there is no win for republicans on this vote.

They either piss off the cult and thus lose its support, or piss of rational Americans and lose their support.

11B-Mailclerk

He is -so- easy to bait, sharp as a bowling ball, introspective as a brick.

Roh-Dog

“[L]oyal to the country and the will of the American people” given the prevailing wills of people-who-reside-in-America and silly things like the Constitution, individual liberty, juris prudence ,those are mutually exclusive choices, bud.

“[M]alignant grasping despot” that has not explicitly violated anyone’s rights, that guy?
Call me when he’s breaking the law.

And I agree, there IS no way fence-sitting RINOs and other controlled opposition are going to win in this situation.

Lex Rex, a-hole. You’ll have to pick a side: Liberty or your brand of justice.

Time is running out.

Commissar

Moronic twit.

So consumed with bullshit and zero capacity to see it for what it is.

So much so that you literally want to throw out the remnants of our democracy and the will of the American people.

All because your cult leader is throwing a tantrum. Because his wounded narcissism pathologically demands it.

I told you he wouldn’t concede.

His personality disorders are so predictable that our adversaries are able to manipulate him through them.

SFC D

“His personality disorders are so predictable that our adversaries are able to manipulate him through them”. And we do exactly the same thing to you. Sometimes we have chewtoys, but they’re sparse lately. We always have our little Commissar puppet, with his strings ready to be pulled. Dance, little puppet!

11B-Mailclerk

We do not now, nor have we ever had, a “democracy”.

It is a Constitutional Republic, and that Constitution -guarantees- a Republican form.

LC

I get awfully tired of this sort of stupidity, but I figured I’d humor you and read the article. While I can’t speak to the shredding, I looked at the breathless claim in the latter part of the write-up that says: The most amazing information, though, came near the end of the hearing. It details the impossibility of vote subtraction in an honest election, although that’s what happened to Trump; the statistical impossibility of precincts reporting more than 75% of votes for a single candidate — although 151 precincts reported over 90% of votes for Biden; and the impossibly large number of votes adjudicated and then destroyed. Now THAT is easy enough to investigate. The Georgia election results page doesn’t make it easy to get all the precinct data at once -probably because they didn’t anticipate this level of denial from people- but fortunately, the author of the piece made this an easy thing to disprove. She claims a candidate getting more than 75%, let alone 90% of the vote, in a given precinct is a ‘statistical impossibility’. Not unlikely, statistically impossible. So here’s the website, and for simplicity, I just went to the very first county, Appling, and got their data (link #2): Main site: https://results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/105369/web.264614/#/access-to-races Appling:https://results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Appling/105371/web.264614/#/reporting?v=271560 Then, plot up the votes between Trump and Biden, and whaddayaknow.. of the 9 precincts in Applying, 7 of the 9 were won by a candidate by more than 75% of the vote, in this case all going to Trump. The 8th was ‘only’ 74%. The 9th, precinct #2 in Appling, went for Biden, with Trump only getting ~37% of the vote (Biden 908 vs Trump 531) Better yet, of those 7 precincts that went for Trump in Appling at more than 75%, three of them went for him at more than 90%. And, before you get all excited thinking that since this blows that ‘statistically impossibility’ out of the water, maybe the real fraud is in precinct #2 in Appling… let’s go look at the 2016 results there, seen here: Appling, 2016: https://results.enr.clarityelections.com/GA/Appling/63993/183625/en/summary.html In that one, guess what, Trump got 36.5%… Read more »

LC

I’ve got a reply to this article but it’s in moderation, presumably because I linked actual data. TL;DR – The ‘statistically impossible’ notion of a precinct going >90% for a candidate is easily disproven, with Appling County having 3 of its 9 precincts go >90% for Trump.

Stop the insanity. Or, at the very least, do a little due diligence. That goes for both the author of the article, and you, 11B.

Counts exceeding voters

Shredded ballots

Counting after chasing out monitors.

Sooner or later, even you have to see just how far off this one was.

It is only going to get worse, by the way. Your side has seen to it. If you don’t rein in your colleagues, you will also get crushed by them. They are as predictable as the sunrise.

Hostile foreigners injected massive quantities of “ballots” into the process to destroy our confidence in the system.

It worked.

-perhaps- it gets tossed and the wisdom of the authors of the 12th Amendment will be proven.

I doubt it. Those who serve their foreign masters are -way- too invested in this.

“We have put together I think the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.” – Joe Biden

“Don’t worry about the election, Trump’s not gonna win. I made fooking sure of that!” – Dr. Eric Coomer VP of US Engineering for US Dominion Voting

“I don’t need you to get me elected; I need you once I’m elected.” – Joe Biden

“I believe that who and how people in the Party vote, is unimportant. What is extremely important is who counts the votes, and how they are recorded.” – Stalin

LC

Counts exceeding voters

Where? Show me the data. Unless you’re also suggesting the Georgia Secretary of State’s office is in on ‘the fix’? And, somehow, has posted incorrect data that every county could check to ensure it’s correct, but nobody has called them on it?

It reminds me of the joke I heard not too long ago:

God meets them at the pearly gates and asks if they have any questions. One of them says, “Yes, what were the real results of the 2020 election and who was behind the fraud?”

God says, “My son, there was no fraud. Biden won the electoral college fair and square, 306 to 232.”

After a few seconds of stunned silence, the one guy turns to the other and whispers, “This goes higher up than we thought.

LC

Oops, well, I ruined the joke by missing the first line:

Two Trump supporters die and go to heaven. God meets them at the pearly gates and asks if they have any questions. One of them says, “Yes, what were the real results of the 2020 election and who was behind the fraud?”

God says, “My son, there was no fraud. Biden won the electoral college fair and square, 306 to 232.”

After a few seconds of stunned silence, the one guy turns to the other and whispers, “This goes higher up than we thought.”

11B-Mailclerk

Go forth and read.

You play the ridicule game.

Go forth and read.

Did you see Lott weighed in? Interesting stuff. Have fun.

LC

This is the problem – you present some evidence, I show you that it’s in error. You ignore that it’s wrong, because that would require admitting you were wrong, and just find some new thing to cling to.

It’s like an endless game of whack-a-mole. At some point you have to ask yourself why you keep getting whacked, and maybe that this game isn’t for you.

11B-Mailclerk

You didn’t touch the shell games on the poll watchers. Or was that imaginary too?

Just too many coincidences, corrections, and anomalies. Handwave away. Error is random. Fraud leans one way. Stats folks keep pointing out just how far out the aggregate was.

It’s not like cheating is new for Donks. They just got a little carried away this time. With some likely help.

The “hanging Chad” fiasco? Turns out the only way to get those dimple/hangers is two or more ballots at the same time (three or more, as two often punch clean anyway). Oops. Otherwise the triggered spring-driven punch cuts one ballot clean every time, as designed.

Nothing new here, and likely they had “help”. I was actually expecting the “dump” would be for Trump, to drive the left nuts. They go violent/disfuntional much quicker.

But given the wreckage Trump made of China in so short a time, as a naive political novice, they had to get -anyone- else in the white house. Biden is manageable and mostly harmless. Trump is playing for keeps.

Won’t surprise me one bit if there is an “impossible” result for the Repubs in Georgia. That will ensure we are too busy here to annoy the would-be Central Kingdom.

Obama was so very right about Biden.

“We have put together I think the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.” – Joe Biden

He wasn’t supposed to say that. It was as stupid as boasting of removing a Urania prosecutor. -epic- stupid.

More stupid is coming. The press will goad him to gloat. They want a spiked football. He will oblige.

Heh.

11B-Mailclerk

Urania? How…

I would not, however, be shocked by interplanetary Biden corruption. His merry band suck up graft like Doritos in a Grateful Dead concert.

Your side chose this dolt. You own the disaster to come.

We need a ruling from the judges in the booth. If someone in Chicago is shot at 11:52 PM tonight, but dies at 12:30 AM on January 1, 21021, do they counted get counted in 2020 or 2021 victims of Covid 19? And for those keeping score at home, Chicago has recorded 774 homicides in 2020 with 14 hours left in the year.

Meanwhile, in Phoenix, Michael Richardson, who played defensive back for the Chicago Bears from 1983-88, has been arrested on a murder charge in Phoenix, Az. Richardson, a member of the Super Bowl champs in 1985, is accused in the shooting death of 47-year-old Ronald Like.

https://graphics.suntimes.com/homicides/

David

First question: to a gun control group, the guy is counted at least four times. Also gets canonized and designated a poor misunderstood victim of anti-LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ racist oppression.

AW1Ed

“…do they counted get counted in 2020 or 2021…”

The answer is yes, they do.

Mason

And noted as a “COVID-related death.”

Sparks

Happy New Year to all my family here.

And…rest in peace Dawn Wells. Died of complications of Covid 19 at age 82.

OWB

Well, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Almost.

Glad to see this one about to blow out, be gone, disappear, take up residence wherever all previous “last years” go to hide.

Meanwhile, having a “discussion” with a dentist office about just what constitutes a “face mask.” Have explained to the staff that I wear a face covering and wouldn’t mind if everyone did so well into the future because I don’t really want to share whatever germs other people are spewing. We shall see if they will allow my variety of face covering instead of a “face mask” so they can do the root canal scheduled in a few days.

So, going into 2021, the insanity continues in OWB’s world. Such a shame.

Graybeard

WTH????

Well, our friend and established WOT FIRSTest of the year has done it. AGAIN.

Happy New Year to all our TAH brethren and sisteren, and may 2021 be good for each and every one of you.

One more thing that is so 2020 in the GB Compound: Eldest son fell head-first about 5′ at work, breaking both hands but not his face! He’ll be on the injured/disabled list for some time – heading to the orthopedic surgeon to determine their next course of action as I type.

It’s gonna be hard to keep him from trying to do anything for the next few. He has already discovered that his little snubby semi-auto .22 is usable with his splinted left hand, so his LTC carry is still possible.

I had my annual head-cold over Christmas – but am on the mend. 4.25″ rain in the GB AO yesterday/last night, and our pond is full for the first time in 8-10 months. More rain today.

I think I’ll bake some bread today.

God bless you all.

Roh-Dog

God bless you and yours, GB.
A healthy and rewarding ‘21 to y’all.

AW1Ed

Thank you, Graybeard. Same to you and yours. While a .22 isn’t my first carry choice, it beats the .45 safe queen left at home.

Graybeard

With a broken hand, it’s all he can handle. His full-sized EDC is unpossible for the interim.

Good news: a minor plate & screws in a carpal bone and time, and he should be good as new. A splint on the L hand, where a tendon tore the bone off where it is attached, and it should heal well.

11B-Mailclerk

Fell on outstretched hands? Ouch.

That front-breakfall is worth learning. Also harder.

Commissioner Wretched

Well, darn. Every time I think I’ve got the WOT figured out, it changes. Such is life, I guess. Congrats to the King of Battle for being FIRST on the LAST WOT of the year! In his honor, I humbly present the last trivia column of the hated year 2020. Enjoy, and Happy New Year, my friends! DID YOU KNOW…? Is there a monument to an insect pest in a town in Alabama? By Commissioner Wretched At last, it’s over. No, not my column. This disastrous year of 2020 is finally drawing to a close. What started with great promise ended up being a horrible series of one bad event after another, starting with the Corona virus, going through murder hornets, riots, protests, a crashed economy, an election, and it’s not over yet. In fact, I made a glaring error in last week’s column and I chalk that up to 2020 as well. The item that said the national debt was $75 million in 1971 … not even close. That was actually the national debt in 1791. Mea culpa. I’m getting depressed again just thinking about it. You may rest assured that I will be ringing in the new year quite fervently – not to see 2021 arrive, but to watch 2020 finally go into the dustbin of history. In the meantime, let’s do some year-end trivia. Happy New Year to all, and may 2020 be remembered – if at all – as the nightmare from which we finally awakened! Did you know … … the word “computer” was once a job title? Prior to the introduction of the machines which now dominate our lives, a “computer” was a person who did math problems all day. Not to throw driptorch fuel on the proverbial fire or anything, but I suppose it’s worth mentioning that the PB4Y is an Army bomber in Navy service (have fun with that).

I was stuck working through Christmas, with a cold, and had to deal with a couple of fatalities on the freeway on Christmas Eve, so not my best Christmas ever. Sitting down and working on these on my soft time was a welcome respite (because I find it very relaxing to snarl profanity at misshapen pieces of plastic).

And, while unrelated to this case, he also implied the Chief Justice Roberts is a pedophile who maybe had something to do with Scalia’s death in a tweet yesterday. Now, some here will say he didn’t actually imply that, he merely asked the questions, but come on. The dude is loonier than Bugs Bunny:

And that’s not all – he went on to allege that Roberts also arranged an illegal adoption of two kids from Wales through, wait for it,… Jeffrey Epstein!

And, to round it out, since people are attacking him, he clarified something. No, no, not the craziness.. he clarified that Epstein is alive:

Holy fuck, people. If this were performance art, I’d be impressed. But between this, ‘Spyder’, the military intelligence expert that wasn’t, and the trained ‘cryptolinguist’ who was in the Navy for all of one year and made up her PhD and MBA, and a host of other bits of wild, outrageous stupidity, it’s a total circus.

That’s a damn shame. This virus is killing many morbidly obese people and I’m sure intubation is pushing the virus deeper in the lungs causing irreparable damage.
May the world take note; unhealthy people are more prone to early death.

Cheating should not be tolerated:

Those who cheated do not belong on the football field. If the Academy has to squad the Choir and Chess Club to field a team, so be it. (Good training for resiliency and adaptability. You may have to do someone else’s job.)
