Scientific proof Bernath was different

We all knew Bernath was wired differently. Now we have proof! From AVWeb;

Study Finds Pilots’ Brains Work Differently

Medical science has now confirmed what your family and friends have been telling you since the first time you strapped in and maybe before that. Your brain works differently than that of non-flying folks and contrary to what those in your immediate bubble might think, that’s actually a good thing, well mostly. Chinese researchers have determined that the brains of pilots are wired differently to deal with the unique environment of the cockpit. The researchers determined that pilots’ brains have greater connections between the “central executive network,” which is the part of the brain that makes sense of various bits of information, and the parts of the brain supplying the raw data. That’s the good thing. It “might enable the network to have more diverse functions,” which helps put all the various inputs from instruments, the radio, the sight picture and others in the cockpit into coherence.

“Pilots are always working in complex, dynamic environments. Flying is now not so much a ‘physical job,’ but a high-level cognitive activity,” the study said. “The pilot should be completely aware of all conditions in real time, and be ready to deal with various potential emergencies.” The tradeoff might have something to do with what your partner whispers in your ear at parties although he or she probably expresses it more colorfully than the scientific explanation. While the central executive network is synthesizing all that diverse data, there seems to be a decreased level of “internal connectivity.” That, said the researchers, is “associated with self-control and appraisal of threatening stimuli.” The study involved 14 flight instructors at the Civil Aviation Flight University of China and 12 first officers from Chinese airlines whose brains were watched in action on imaging equipment.

“Central Executive Network”, or CNE. Shouldn’t that be Cranium Needs Extracted?

Otherwise known as HUA (Head Up A$$).

USAFRetired

Cranial Rectal Inversion (CRI) One cure is to insert a piece of tranparent Plexiglass in the abdomen (Plexirectomy) That way an indiidual can see while they’re HUA.

Only Chinese pilots were used in the study? Hmmmmmmmm……….

Too bad they couldn’t study Bernath’s brain. Buuuut…..the problem there is finding and scraping enough together to study. Even worse if they wanted to study a LIVING brain (even before Bernath starting flying at -6 ft AGL).

SFC D

This study applies to pilots. Bernath wasn’t a pilot, just a dumbass with a plane.

5JC

More of a landscaper than pilot.

Hack Stone

Daniel Bernath made a lasting impression.

Hell, I’ve known that pilots brains are different all along.

Case in point: If a Army helicopter pilot in RVN (at least in my outfit) was going to exceed 100 flight hours in a given month, it required a visit to the flight surgeon to get a green light to go past the 100 hour mark.

Don’t forget “crew rest”…

AW1Ed

Music to my ears, Anon. Not as good as “per diem” but not bad at all.

Hack Stone

Daniel Bernath was a pilot that wasn’t picked up for another season. Now we can only enjoy his antics in reruns.

That dumb bastard was no pilot. He may have been able to hornswoggle some instructor to sign off of his light sport license, but I seriously doubt he had the judgment, knowledge, or skills to be flying a real airplane with retractable gear, a variable pitch prop, and a full instrument panel. Anyone stupid enough to even do a VFR flight without a reserve of at least another 45 minutes of fuel beyond the destination airport, is no pilot, brain wise. Hell, he didn’t even demonstrate the basic skills of correctly talking on the radio to ATC.

Hack Stone

You forgot to say ((Over)), ((Over)).

Now if Chinese pilots were falling out of the sky due to no fuel in their tanks, I might believe this.

OWB

On behalf of real pilots everywhere, might I point out that no comparison can be made between them (real pilots) and the clown who wasn’t one? Owning a small aerial machine does not a pilot make. He also proved on multiple occasions an utter inability to fly.

Hack Stone

Not his fault. If Daniel Bernath ws still alive, Hack Stone would be more than confidant that he would successfully argue in front of The Supreme Court the the Law Of Gravity is unconstitutional. Hack Stone has been to the front of The Supreme Court, and plenty of vagrants arguing on the sidewalk out front.

rgr769

Yes, ol’ Bernasty demonstrated at least twice that he didn’t have the skills or judgment to keep his machines from losing the battle with the law of gravity.

Graybeard

As I understand it, years ago a study showed that pilots and motorcycle drivers (at least, those who were able to stay alive in those activities for any significant length of time) both had to have the mental capacity to process and react to thousands of stimuli more than the average person.

Not that Bernath had that ability.

This pic just never gets old.

(I can’t believe some fellow dickweed/weedette from here at TAH didn’t beat me to it). (smile)

Does anyone know if a military detail was at his funeral service? How would you like to be the guy or gal tapped for that event? It would rank right up there with being a Secret Service agent assigned to protecting Hillary Clinton.

AW1Ed

Two fellow dickweeds, Sky. ChipNASA and some other.

I wanted to go AW1Ed, but I couldn’t connect with TSO and borrow his hot dog” suit. (smile)

There was only one way Daniel Bernath could make an impact in life and he achieved it January 22, 2018. The world is a better place for his achievement.

As for the ChiCom study, Washington state has had 2 non-pilots in recent history achieve notoriety for flights using knowledge achieved from computer flight simulator programs.

One, a Horizon Air ground employee stole a parked Horizon Airlines turboprop and made an impact, ala Bernath, on Ketron Island (population 17) in Puget Sound when he attempted acrobatics.

The other was then a teenager on a crime spree, now out of prison, who stole multiple aircraft and flew across the country. He crash landed in the water off the Bahamas and continued his breaking and entering crime spree there until caught.

This guy should not have been taking all three of those drugs together.

One should have been settled on and the dose titrated to effect.

If it didn’t work, scrap it and try another. Psychiatry is basically throwing shit at the wall until something sticks anyway. Especially when medication is involved.

His brain was absolutely wired different! He was taking 3 medications with that as their primary purpose. I missed the post on him first time around; I must have been out sick, but I went back and read it.

It could’ve screwed his head up enough to pull all kinds of goofy shit on a combo like that.

I guess at least I personally have to maybe cut him a little slack. Not saying anyone else should. It could just as well have had NOTHING to do with his stolen valor crap.

But, since he was an attorney I guess I have to admit he established reasonable doubt with me by accident(pun intended).

I tried a flight simulator as part of a psychological experiment in college. I mostly did it for the $20, but was actually curious.

Everyone should thank God that I never became a pilot. It would have been a mass casualty event! I’ve never been so humiliated and humbled. I could multi-task really well, I had to for years with a toe tag looming should I screw up.

Being a pilot clearly involves a hell of a lot more than that. Some kind of marriage of spatial awareness, intellect, and calm that I was in sore need of. Probably why I never rode a motorcycle on the road, or bought a really fast car.

Welp, ‘splains why some folks just HAVE TO go all Maverick, get canopy down, feel a need for speed, look for beach volley ball games, and goose a cook…uh..uh..cook a goose.

Once they’ve lost that loving feeling, they might as well put it on ice, man.

The beloved AW1Ed is not going to look kindly on your comment, Gun Bunny.

AW1Ed

Not at all, rgr769. I try to take into account issues those less fortunate must endure.

Like Gun Bunny.

?!?Whut?!? He’s a good doggie. Cheese and rice youse guys, youse got a biscuit? Is it Thursday yet? What’s for mid-rats? Any LRRP C-Rat boxes left?

Man po-leaze, I step up to give a legitimate explanation of certain groups of people’s behavior, based on decades of experience trying to figure out why daHell dumbasses gotta dumbass. Part two (2) of a sequel of a documentary on pile-it behavior should be released to the inquiring minds that want to know, soon.

Popcorn? Co-Cola? Ju-Ju Beans?

I thing the SlEpMAnComith is an aviator also?
Always higher functioning.

Do you know what Daniel Bernath’s favorite cocktail was?

That’s right, a Kamikaze!
