Florida deputy attacked while chasing suspect: ‘He stabbed me in the neck’
A Florida sheriff’s deputy was stabbed in the neck Sunday while chasing a suspect through a wooded area.

By Louis Casiano
A Florida sheriff’s deputy was stabbed in the neck Sunday while chasing a suspect through a wooded area, authorities said Monday.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released body-camera footage of the incident showing deputies responding to a home in the Tampa suburb of Lithia to assist another agency with an involuntary mental health evaluation.

Nicolas Furgason, 21, was cooperating with deputies when he fled after learning he would be admitted to a mental health facility under a state law that allows involuntary institutionalization.

He ran into a wooded area and was pursued by Deputy Charles Williams on foot while another pursued him in a patrol vehicle. Williams caught up with Furgason on a trail and tried to de-escalate the situation, authorities said.

“Unknown to the deputy, Furgason had a knife on him,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote on its Facebook page. “Furgason pulled the knife out and stabbed Deputy Williams in the neck before fleeing the area and ignoring verbal commands to stop.”

Williams chased Furgason for another 100 yards before using a Taser and detaining him. Willaims was taken to a hospital and released Monday morning.

Alabama woman pleads guilty to murder of accused rapist

By Ashley Remkus
Brittany Smith, an Alabama woman who killed a man accused of raping her, has pleaded guilty to murder.

Brittany was sentenced to 20 years, court records show. But the sentence was split for her to serve 18 months in the Jackson County Jail and 18 months on house arrest, followed by probation. Because she will receive credit for the time she spent in jail awaiting trial, Brittany will be released to house arrest in about seven months, according to her attorney.

Brittany, a 32-year-old mother of four, was taken back to jail after pleading guilty in Jackson County Circuit Judge Jenifer Holt’s courtroom.

She pleaded guilty to killing Todd Smith, an acquaintance, in the kitchen of her home in Stevenson. It happened early on the morning of Jan. 16, 2018 — just hours after Brittany said Todd raped and strangled her.

Brittany’s murder case was set for trial next month. Her story has drawn national media attention and raised questions about how abused women are treated in the criminal justice system in Alabama.

Floruh-duh Man strikes again. Here you go larsie boi, how you think your unarmed Social Worker woulda handled this? Bitch lucky he didn’t his damn fool ass kilt. Have it on a very reliable source that this individual had never had any “mental issues” in the past. Wonder what the tox screen would show? This one is close to home. Baby Girl and the Grands were, in the grand scheme of land nav courses, around the bend in the trail from where this came down. GTFO and come Home.

Yep Jackson County AL needs a new DA, and Homegirl needs a bonus payment for taking out the trash, we think? He said, she said can go better if there is only one doing the saying. You know what I’m saying?

Ahhhhhhhh…speaking of saying….a picture says a thousand words. Good Morning JMB…Howitzer be your name!

Law-a-way for Christmas?

MI Ranger

Isn’t Jackson County where they threw the book at that veteran for driving through Alabama with prescription marijuana?
I am not defending the kids stupidity for not knowing the law (I mean heaven forbid you check to see if it is legal in other states! [Being a Concealed Carry License holder I am familiar with the process] Or maybe you at least put it away in your luggage as you drive! [I think it says you are not suppose to operate machinery (i.e. drive a car) while under its influence].
The poor guy is locked up there, and his wife moved there to be close, because they could not afford to drive back and forth for the court proceedings. Its a great hard luck story, with only major embellishments, about what an upstanding individual the Soldier was when he served and how he deals with his PTSD. 😉
