Florida Enacts Tougher Punishments for Stolen Valor
The CBS affiliate WJHG reports that new laws in Florida have kicked in starting in October 2020.
Tougher punishments for stolen valor, veteran scams among new Florida laws

Published: Oct. 1, 2020 at 9:17 PM EDTPANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) – As Florida enters the month of October, 24 new laws will take effect. They range from increased penalties of shark finning, to new guidelines for specialty license plates. But one new law seeks to protect military veterans from scams.
It was lumped into shark finning, but it seems like a step in a good direction.

“…It was lumped into shark finning, but it seems like a step in a good direction…”
It’s easy to imagine that sharkfinning poachers are also scumbag fakers and posers…
Wow, while I am glad they are doing something, a third-class felony for ten or more veterans swindled seems laughable. So just keep it under ten until they change the name and start again.
I ran into more scams when I lived in Chicago than I ever did when I didn’t live there, and finally had the sense to leave permanently.
What’s next?
All-Points Logistics will open a branch in a town near you!
In the meantime, Dallas Wittgenfeld says “I’m sure glad they’re only going after white collar crimes here in Floriduh. Me, I’m not smart enough to know how to wipe my own ass, so I’ve got nuthin’ to worry about.”
CLAW..
Really? Spew alert next time…
tomato soup is a bitch to get out of a white t-shirt and off my phone BUT worth it after that comment..
It was lumped into shark finning,…..
Huh?
The law for vets was one of 24 bills that were passed and signed into law. It was not one big bill.
But there seems to be some confusion as to what happened.
The bill the article posted about makes it a first degree felony to “(a) victimize[s] 10 or more veterans,” AND “thereby obtains or attempts to obtain $50,000 or more.” (Its a two part requirement.)
“Stolen Valor” in and of itself is still a third degree felony for a single violation (see FS 817.312.) for “soliciting for charitable contributions or for the purpose of material gain.”
An addendum to FS 817.312 has been proposed, passed and approved (but not yet signed) by the governor that adds getting a job or being elected to a public office if the job or office was obtained by Stolen Valor.
I dunno, makes sense… scam a vet, get one of YOUR fins cut off. I’m good with that!
’bout time! On my many trips down toward the Tampa area you couldn’t swing a dead cat at a rest area or a gas station without hitting a half a dozen “For The Vets”, or “Imma Vet, Please Give, God Bless” booth. Finally got into the habit of topping of the gas and the tummy tank and draining the bladder on the Georgia side of the big road.
I am sure the False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) spent a ton of ill-gotten taxpayer dollars hiring lobbyists to fight this!
I only pray that somebody can please do something about my pos brother before I pass away???
Somebody please put this pos in prison before I die!!
Thank you all,
Willy
