Update on the BBQ-confused Senate candidate from NC
Last week, AW1Ed posted about this Cal Cunningham feller running on the Democrat ticket in North Carolina for US Senate against incumbent Republican Thom Tillis. ninja made sure we didn’t miss this new development.
Well, Mr. Cunningham (LTC Cunningham come UTA weekends, he’s an Army Reservist, JAG Corps) has found a way to distract from that BBQ kerfuffle; a good old fashioned sex scandal. Taking a cue from Anthony Weiner, Cunningham has been caught “sexting” with a political strategist that’s not his wife.
North Carolina Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Cal Cunningham, a married father of two, sent text messages of a sexual nature to a woman who is not his wife, his campaign confirmed Friday night.
The text messages between Cunningham and Arlene Guzman Todd, a public relations strategist from California, were first reported Thursday night by NationalFile.com.
The report included pictures of the text messages, in which Cunningham and Guzman, who is also married according to the report, talked about kissing each other and more.
“Would make my day to roll over and kiss you about now,” said one text message from Cunningham.
In one text from Guzman, she says: “I have flexibility this month — done with school, training, big RFPs, etc. So the only thing I want on my to do list is you.”

Cunningham, who clearly has learned from other prominent Democrats like Governor “Coon Man” Northam, will not be leaving the race. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is maintaining their endorsement of him as well and still buying ads in his favor.
If you wanted any more reason to be disgusted by this guy, I got some more for you. The woman he’s cheating (at the least emotionally cheating if not physically) is also married. She’s married to an Army veteran, one who was injured severely while on active duty and who has logged several deployments.
Arlene Guzman Todd’s husband (who I won’t name out of respect) was a chaplain assistant with five “combat deployments” according to articles I found. His ribbon rack shows the GWOT-E, OIF, and OEF Campaign medals. He’s probably an officer now as he left the Army after 15 years to finish college as an ROTC cadet under the Army’s Green-to-Gold program. Before leaving for school he broke his back in a “routine” training jump from a Black Hawk (he was in an airborne assignment).
To recap, Cunningham has not only engaged in slimeball behavior (his campaign authenticated the messages), but he’s Jody. Vote for LTC Jody come Nov 3rd!

It’s the inability to correctly distinguish between BBQ and grilling that will cost him more votes though.
I always remember a Paul Harvey segment in which he openly stated thatthe best BBQ came from black cooks… “seems like a vital ingredient is 300 years of hate.” Bet he couldn’t air that today.

Yep, saw that picture of Cunningham receiving the MacArthur Award from CSA Casey, and it reminded me that GEN Casey was only one of the men (from the old timey days) who went on to become a General Officer that used to come into my S-4 Shop and drink up all of my coffee./s
Back then, Casey was the Battalion Commander of 1/10 Inf and shared the same Headquarters building with my outfit (1/12 Inf) there on Fort Carson, so he and my Battalion Commander would have “talks” in my shop, because both outfits fell under the 1st Brigade. Really, I think the reason behind their “talks” was that both their S-1 shops couldn’t make coffee for shit, so they came to me to have good coffee./smile

One would think that a member of the JAG Corps would know that what he is doing could be construed as “Conduct Unbecoming” or “Detrimental to Good Order and Discipline” under the UCMJ. Leastways, woulda been in my Army. Maybe having that little (D) after his DOR gives a pass to that type of behavior? Maybe he needs to learn about hickory switches in addition to hickory wood coals/smoke? His political career should be in the same place a proper BBQ is done…in a pit!
SInce he is a Reservist do any of the dates of the texts coincide with him on “duty”? He could be tired for conduct unbecoming at the lest. As a JAG he should definitely know what trouble he is in!
Oh, and I know SJ was being facetious but some units did give those away to every swinging officer in the formation. I had to seriously wonder when my Brigade put in our award request eight months out, I had just got there as I replaced their current S2. I did feel I earned it by the time we redeployed…but some others I question.

Yep, I was being facetious. I know because I have one (a Bronze Star) from Viet of the Nam. The clue was the citation read like every other officer’s, except for name and duty assignment. But Joe and Karen Civilian looks at the ad with the Star prominently featured and ole Cal in Battle Rattle and thinks Cal must have been a bad ass. Mrs SJ is getting tired of me yelling at the TV when that ad comes on. And yes Claw, re S4 Coffee, one day in my S4 shop folks were discussing coffee in grocery stores. CW2 King looked up from his Property Book juggling and said “Civilians sell coffee?”
The Bronze Star has been BS since WWII. Generals (or their aides)carried pockets full of them when “inspecting” various troops. My mother-in-law used to complain about some WAC she served with in London who got one from a General who passed through their office (to thank the oft neglected rear echelon folks for their contributions to the war effort). I think she was jealous.
1st Cav, RVN, the standard awards & decoration packet included ARCOM for EM, Bronze Star for E5 and up.

First Lieutenant Jeremy Todd was a lock in after serving 18 years and is in a Sanctuary Status. He will retire with his highest Enlisted grade. You have to serve 10 years as a commisioned office to hold that grade at retirement. If I were him I would do a Campaign commercial for LTC Cunningham’s Opponent.
He can be placed on an AD UCMJ order and Charged if a refural is made by Todd. An Investigation is in Order.
