DC government panel wants memorials to be ‘removed, relocated or contextualized’

| September 2, 2020

Notorious racist George Washington

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) convened a panel of 34 people back in July to look at public structures named after people to see if their brand of revisionist history could be employed.

Mayor Bowser charged the District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions (DCFACES) Working Group with evaluating named DC Government-owned facilities and make recommendations as to what, if any, actions need to be taken if the person the facility is named for is inconsistent with DC values and in some way encouraged the oppression of African Americans and other communities of color or contributed to our long history of systemic racism.

Well, the DCFECES working group has come back with their final report. They’ve discovered 153 of the 1,330 places, streets, or structures in the district to be related to “persons of concern.”

Nine locations they want to be “removed, relocated, or contextualized.” From the report;

Using the Mayor’s position on the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission, [to] recommend the Federal government remove, relocate, or contextualize the following assets:

1. Christopher Columbus – Columbus Fountain (federal)
2. Benjamin Franklin – Benjamin Franklin Statue (federal)
3. Andrew Jackson – Andrew Jackson Statue (federal)
4. Thomas Jefferson – Jefferson Memorial (federal)
5. George Mason – George Mason Memorial (federal)
6. Francis Griffith Newlands – Newlands Memorial Fountain (federal)
7. Albert Pike – Albert Pike Statue (federal)
8. George Washington – Washington Monument, George Washington Statue (federal)

Three years ago, in the wake of Charlottesville, Trump asked, “This week it’s Robert E. Lee…Is it George Washington next week and Thomas Jefferson the week after?”

The media at the time, of course, thought he was being over the top hyperbolic. For example, this article from NBC News (which has not aged well) said;

Is the president right about the impending threat to the founders? Historians who spoke to NBC News said such fears are slightly misplaced and that Trump is championing a murky interpretation of history.

Three years later, it’s not so misplaced, is it?

Maybe it’s time to remove these peeps who want to erase our history. Was mentioned yesterday on WFTL 850 AM radio that kamala’s father was related to slave owners in Jamaica.(not Jamaica NY) Got to check it out but not using shnopes, scopes, dopes as they are a little biased.

I googled the harris slave owner descendents 15 minutes ago and came up with the articles that says her great great great grand father or mother was a slave owner. saw articles from 2019 on the same but the lame stream media aren’t saying anything so as to keep it quiet. Wonder if Trump or Pence will bring it up on the debate floor. So if that’s the case and she wants all those Civil War statues removed then how come she hasn’t been removed.

Benjamin Franklin? WTF?

penguinman000

They defaced a monument to the 54th Mass. Regt. https://artsfuse.org/205108/visual-arts-commentary-bostons-historical-memorial-to-black-lives-vandalized/

Why no Ben Franklin and Lincoln too?

MustangCryppie

And it’s funny because Franklin, during the very first United States Congress, backed a bill by the Quakers of Pennsylvania and New York to abolish slavery.

He owned slaves, but began turning away from it in the 1750s, though he never fully rejected it.

Roh-Dog

Allow me to retort, contextualize these nuts.
I’m done with Cultural Marxists.
America indelible.
Forever free.
Or else.

SFC D

So is Robert Byrd’s name on anything?

A Proud Infidel®™

Last I heard, Robert “KKK” Byrd had a number of buildings named after him.

Roh-Dog

I hope he and Adolph are pineapple buddies in Hades.
Fronds first, you clowns.

Graybeard

We have a local BLM pair trying to start this crap with a Confederate monument.

Democrats should come with a warning label: May issue un-American drivel and become outraged over stupid sh*t.

Commissioner Wretched

Basically, since the eight in the list above are Federal, there isn’t diddly-over-squat the DC Mayor or Council can do. Touching those requires Federal approval, which they ain’t gonna get.

It’s just virtue signaling. They can legally do nothing at all.

^WORD^ Saw this on evening last on several news feeds. Pissed me off then, pisses me off again. And yep, you’re right CW, those are FEDERAL MONUMENTS, they belong to the FEDS, not to the Swamp that is the City of Washington DC. And who is surprised at all that is spewed out by the demonrats of the swamp. After all, these are the people that elected and then re-elected , literally, a whore hopping crack head.

Y’all remember when I FIRST (ht 2 CW) made mention that all things Confederate were just the low hanging fruit and that every other Memorial to “Whitey” was next? These people have no clue what Monument Represents what, as pointed out above. Where is SFC Sledge when we need him?

Here’s another little Monument situation I ran across last night. Wonder what the thousands of Black Confederates would think about this?

Hate_me

The idea of a Boseman monument reminded me of the Rush song, “Nobody’s Hero.”

Specifically, the lyric “Not the handsome actor/ Who plays a hero’s role.”

I’ve no problem with a memorial to him, especially in is hometown, but this whole idea of replacing monuments is ridiculous. There’s more than enough room (and underworked sculptors/architects) to simply build new monuments to more recent heroes/causes.

A Proud Infidel®™

“They can legally do nothing at all.”

That doesn’t mean they won’t summon a mob or three of their useful idiots to do their bidding.

Man, do you remember the days when all we had to worry about was Soup Sandwich, Bernath, and their ilk?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

This statue is next on the chopping block. Some 8 year old SJW from Springfield wants to bring it down because he started the trend of whacking snakes with a club and “iced a bear with his bare hands”. He did redeem himself though, when he tried to kill George Washington, who was a white slaveowner.

Quick linky to what happens when that whole “contextualized” things kick in. The whole thing now is totally “revisionist” History. It’s gonna get worse.

https://oaklandcemetery.com/interpreting-atlantas-confederate-history/

The Atlanta History Center is hell bent to remove and or re-define EVERY WBTS Marker in the area. They have already started by changing the thrust of Sherman’s March to be a “mostly peaceful” Sunday stroll and that the only damage that he and his troops did was to Military Targets. Wonder what the former citizens of Georgia that were killed or burned out when the Town that they lived in ceased to exist would say about that? Particularly the number of “contrabands” used to detonate the “torpedos” buried in the road of March ahead of his troops? Or maybe the thousands of blacks that were killed when Federal Maj Gen Jefferson C. Davis pulled up his pontoon bridges that were over Ebenezar Creek and started shelling them with his artillery to cover the rear of his line of March.

I repeat, the politicians of the day started that war and the politicians of this day are trying to stir us against one another and start another war. This is specifically designed to cover their nefarious attempts to completely subjugate the American People. They will destroy us to conserve their grip on power.

rgr769

These Marxist Progs should just pledge allegiance to ISIS, since they want to bulldoze the Jefferson and Washington monuments. Who the eff do they really think they are trying to erase our history. These BLM/Antifa scum have even defaced Gracie Mansion. They are so woke they can’t even tolerate the memory of Elvis. If he is still secretly alive, as some fans believe, I am sure he is appalled at what this country has become.

KoB

Kinda sad when you got about 3% of the total population of this country that has been doing 60%+ of the crime, being catered to by self serving politicians. Saw the thing about Graceland last night too. Just a many of the Black self serving politicians have destroyed the neighborhoods, thus they are destroying the progress that has been made over the last 170 years.

Lock n Load!

David

which do you mean? Gracie Mansion the home of the NYC mayor? Or Graceland as in Elvis’ last domicile?

rgr769

Sorry, I miss-texted. It was Graceland the Biden voters attacked.

Fyrfighter

Burn Loot Murder just sticking to the script. They have nothing to offer to society but destruction.

Roh-Dog

If the North had lost, Sherman would have hung for his actions in Atlanta.
The part that gets me every time was a large contingent of the city were Union sympathizers, many transplants from the other side of the Mason/Dixon, right up until the city was sieged then sacked/burned, rail lines pretzeled, men killed, hobbled, and the women, girls raped.
That is the history of the WBTS/WoNA.
History ain’t pretty and there ain’t no changing it.
But the North won and we’ve been taught they were the White Knights to this f**king day, and Lincoln didn’t want to export all the slaves.
GTFO.

11B-Mailclerk

Actually, Law and custom of War at the time was pretty harsh. Sherman’s methods were well within established norms.

Review the depredations of the European wars of the 19th century. By those standards, Sherman was rather restrained.

Keep in mind, “suppression of insurrection” is much less restricted by contemporaneous law and custom. But even by “invasion” standards of the era, Sherman was in-bounds of law and custom.

You really should read up on contemporaneous behavior, before repeating that post-hoc revisionist stuff.

And before you go there, I have plenty of kin that were in Gray in that war. One cannot Honor the past or it’s participants without understanding the events factually.

Roh-Dog

I ain’t revising shit, what I said about the atrocities committed by the Union Army in Atlanta are well documented.
I clearly stated an hypothetical, based on opinion and conjecture (understandably the worse kind of historying).
And I gives two squirts of piss what ‘contemporaneous norms’ were, they weren’t fighting Mexico anymore. They were sewing the seeds for a multi-century occupation. Where are all the major military bases?… -checks map- oh yeah, keeping the insurrectionists at bay!
That level of destruction did indeed led the South to howl, and if you listen carefully General ‘Nervous Breakdown’ Sherman’s goal can still be heard today.
He didn’t need to go so hard in the paint, and his constant fuck ups and ego led to Stanton and Jackson to yank his chain more than once apiece, or you can argue he negotiated in bad-faith constantly.
Anyway you cut it, his greatest honorable feat is being subservient to that drunk Grant.

Roh-Dog

Btw, on this date in 1864 Atlanta fell.
Is it a beautiful coincidence or providence?
Remember Atlanta!

A Proud Infidel®™

I remember hearing a Fellow Civil War Reenactor once saying “The Yankees burned Atlanta back then, but now it could use a good burning…”

Roh-Dog

And how!
Festering liberal shithole bringing down a beautiful state.
Think about how close that Marxist still-not-governor Jabba Abrams came to soiling the place with her unctuous commie slime.
Fire may be to good for ‘em now!

11B-Mailclerk

They won.

And you are repeating century old Democrat propaganda.

If you minimize the victors, you slander the vanquished.

Roh-Dog

No. Just no.
It was bloody awful and should be remembered as such.
There ain’t no victors in war and even fewer good causes.

KoB

11B, with all due respect Brother, the facts of the event are that both Sherman AND Sheridan were bloodthirsty DemiGods bent on murderous, burning, looting, pillaging, and yes, raping, campaigns to make war on defenseless women and children. I invite you to read the diaries of the women whose homes lay in the path of this destruction and/or the histories of the counties that they both marched thru. They both crafted their art of war on Southern Women and then perfected it on the defenseless Native Women and Children. Maybe you could read Sherman’s own account of his March, or maybe the regret that many of his line officers felt as they burned the homes and food stuffs. “Forage liberally on the countryside.” “The only good Indian is a dead Indian.” “The South will never be conquered until every person in it is dead and it is repopulated.” All of this was done on his expressed orders. I have spent nearly 65 years studying this time frame, have travelled the routes of both wings of Sherman’s March, his route thru the Carolinas, and the areas of Mississippi, Tennessee, and parts of Alabama and North Georgia that he was in. Same with the Shenandoah Valley “A crow would have to carry his own rations…” Places that were thriving towns were just wiped off the map and are now just a state Historical Marker. I could go on. The facts of the event too, are that the cause of that war was politicians, on BOTH sides. Almost 1/2 of the states didn’t leave until until Lincoln made a levy on ALL of the state Militias, to “put down the Rebellion.” When he made that call, there was no real Rebellion just yet. On the statues and the revisionist history thereof? Most of the Statues were proposed before the Occupation/Reconstruction/Bayonet Rule ended. In some cases where there was money circulation the statues were placed fairly early…well before the supposed “Jim Crow Era.” In other cases it was well into the early 1900s before enough money was raised to have the statue placed. And… Read more »

Sounds a like things going on toward. Initially, the protesters against police brutality had a lot of support from the public. But once the ANTIFA/BLM ran out of their initial targets, they had to focus their attention on their moderate supporters. Eventually they will eat their own.

Green Thumb

Maybe the DC Council should be “removed, relocated or contextualized”

What a great way to waste money.

Hack Stone

DC is planning on naming a high school after the Honorable Marion Barry. Obviously they never viewed High School High. Funny movie, plus Tia Carrera, which is good.

They have since removed the recommendations on 9 statues (to include the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial); presumably, they realized it was either bad optics or outside the jurisdiction of the District:

So, this is about the best place I can think of to put this up.
I watched the movie “The Last Full Measure” last night.
I don’t know if everyone here can or should watch it simply because of the closet skeletons and other issues from combat.
William J Pitzenberger got his Award for his final actions upgraded to be awarded the MOH.
I know a lot of other folks here don’t like anything put out by Hollywood regarding realistic war portrayals. I don’t share that opinion as I simply want the people involved, must be treated with the respect they have earned through their actions on the battlefield.
With this movie, I have to say that watching it all the way through up to and including the credits at the end, I have never seen such respect given to anyone that deserves that and all the honor and respect so much as Airman Pitzenberger.
Gets really dusty, even in my “new house”… I mean really dusty…..
So, if you feel like watching a movie that really portrays something in the most positive light that truly deserves it, “The Last Full Measure” is well worth the time and dust it takes to watch it…
When people thank me for being a Veteran, I always answer that it is an honor to be able to have my name in the same book as the men and women that I served with, up to and including Airman Pitzenberger…
Godspeed Young Airman…..
And God Bless your family, and God Bless all those that worked so hard to get that movie to the screen, it really needed to be shown…
I just ordered one to keep for my kids and grandkids…
It truly was an honor to serve…..

Thunderstixx

Oops…..
It’s William H Pitzenberger…..
J looks just like the H, only different…..
My bad…..
