Case against former Santa Fe deputy accused killing his partner dismissed
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The voluntary manslaughter case against Tai Chan, the former Santa Fe deputy who is accused of killing his partner in 2014, was dismissed Wednesday.
Chan faced two previous murder trials which ended with hung juries.
A spokesperson for the district attorney said the judge agreed with Chan’s defense motion that the case took “six years” and violated his right to a speedy trial and due process. The judge also sanctioned the prosecutors for engaging in prosecutorial misconduct over “scheduling” matters, she said.
Chan claimed self-defense after shooting Jeremy Martin inside a Las Cruces hotel.

Deputies investigate after homeowner shoots, kills uninvited visitor in Lancaster County
INDIAN LAND, S.C. (WBTV) – Deputies are investigating a shooting death after a homeowner fatally shot an uninvited visitor in Lancaster County over the weekend.
Deputies responded to a burglary call around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at a home on Fox Ridge Lane in Indian Land.
Officers said a 37-year-old man drove to the residence uninvited where his ex-girlfriend was visiting.
Deputies said the 37-year-old man, identified as Anastasio Kroustalis, from Matthews, NC, upset that the woman was there.
The homeowner, a 40-year-old man, allowed Kroustalis to come inside to the downstairs kitchen.
The homeowner went upstairs to talk with the woman, who was in a walk-in closet in the master bedroom suite.
Soon after, Kroustalis made his way upstairs and confronted the homeowner and the woman at the closet door.
Officers said a disturbance ensued and the homeowner fired a handgun at Kroustalis, who was shot and died at the scene.

Dad Shoots Robber To Defend His Family, Grieving Mom Asks ‘Why Did He Shoot Him Five Times’
Cynthia Ruiz, a widow and single mother, revealed that she collapsed when San Antonio police officers notified her that her 19-year-old son, Andrew Herrera, had been shot and killed the previous night during an attempted robbery at Popeyes Chicken in the 800 block of Southeast Military Drive.
“Did my son deserve to be punished? Yes, he did,” she said.
Police stated that Herrera, in a hoodie and a mask, entered the restaurant with a gun and confronted a man and his family.
After the man explained that he had spent all the money he had on the dinner, Herrera turned and pointed the gun towards the counter at one worker who was running away.
The man, who had a license to carry a concealed weapon, took the opportunity and fired at Herrera several times.
A police spokesman spoke about the incident, saying: “Here in Texas, if you’re in fear of loss of life, loss of property, you have a right to defend yourself.”
Ruiz stated that while she understood the man was just protecting his family, she still had the question: “Why shoot him four more times? Why did he shoot him five times?”

“Why did he shoot him five times?”
Beeeeeecause……the father missed once? (assuming a revolver)
Beeeeeecause……the son was no longer a threat?
This is the type of thinking that says, “why did he shoot him in the body? why didn’t he shoot him in the leg? or arm? or hand? my poor baby would still be alive.”
And we all know the answers to those misbegotten questions.
Maybe the father should ask the grieving mother, “why didn’t you raise your son better? he might still be alive.”
My sympathies are with the father, who now has to live with the guilt that he killed another person. But he might also take some small comfort in that he successfully defended his family against a deadly threat.
2 + 2 = DEAD.
Shoot until the target is neutralized.
Why did he shoot him five times? He would have shot him six time, but that Popeye’s Chicken is just so damn good, he had to dig in before the kids ate it all.
So I am not sure if I am reading this right on the first story. Is it saying his lover when they mean partner or is it saying his Sheriff partner and they were in a motel together and got in an argument? (hey what people do behind closed doors is their business)
In the case of the Texas mother…”because he stopped being a threat…and ammo is expensive these days”.
Very valuable lesson here: A libertard might have responded with “…because someone did not raise this child with values and instead of earning an honest living he spent his money on a firearm and chose to commit crimes and threaten others.” Because Libertards don’t worry about hurting others feelings only if theirs get hurt.
Or they really wanted to say “because he could not earn a living working at Popeye’s restaurant and the Republicans forced him to be an entrepreneur and earn his money instead of waiting for the government to take care of him.”
They said that the jury was hung – how did they know?
And KOB delivers the goods…Every.Damn.Time! Heh
Update? Still not a smart move to let your ex and her new flame lure you into his house. The story being told to the po po will not be yours.
Shot 5 times? That new chicken sammich must be really good. Wouldn’t know, I eat God’s Chicken sammich from Chic-fil-et. Everything with a NOLA connection has a taint about it. Maybe if Mama’s boy hada taken his other meds, you wouldn’t had to have some lead pills injected.
The Marine characters in Jeff Shaara’s “To The Last Man” Historical Novel on WWI certainly spoke highly of the 1903 Springfield.
Ah, you missed the Chik-Fil-A CEO kneeling and shining the shoes of a black hip hop artist. He is no more the man his father was than the Walton family.
Basic law: don’t shoot till you think he’s dead, shoot till HE thinks he’s dead.
Shoot until it stops changing shape and/or catches fire.
I think that’s how it goes.
Pls correct me if I’m wrong.
The Popeye’s Chicken shooting?
Interesting.
The shooting occurred in December 2017.
Video of the Mother speaking for her deceased son is embedded in the 2017 story:

Oh Boy!! I finally get a FGS Trifecta!!!!
I’m sure he must have run out of ammo, or he would have shot him more times???
It wheeley could have been a five shot wheel gun which wheeley shoots five rounds. Try holding up a place wheel their is an armed person then you are truly facing wheelality. If the armed person in Popeyes had watched enough Lash Larue and Gene Autry flicks, he could have used a bull whip on the perps gun hand or shot the gun out of his hand. Wheeley could have.
And the wheel of karma continues spinning, be careful as it comes around behind you.
Why? Because he didn’t have six rounds.
Deputies investigate after homeowner shoots, kills uninvited visitor in Lancaster County.
Your title states visited was uninvited and the article clearly states, the home owner INVITED Anastasio into the home. Then supposedly a disturbance ensued ??? Why would you invite a guy that you don’t know into your home.. was the plan to kill him. How do you invite someone in and shoot him? Also, how many times was he shot? Do you carry a gun in your pocket in the house? This sounds more like BS to me? These people should be in jail!
Furthermore, obviously Anastasio was unarmed because IF HE WAS armed the article would have read “armed” man !!
