TAH Roll Call (Pinned)
TAH has a spirit of strong camaraderie among those who frequent here, both military and civilian. The diverse experiences and opinions that people share is invaluable. Over the years many have come and gone for one reason or another, however, there are many who have been here for years. Some visit hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or rarely. Whether by contributing, commenting, supporting financially or just lurking, your presence is welcome and appreciated.
With that said, we would like to conduct a TAH roll call. We encourage everyone to simply sound off and perhaps if you so choose, include a brief update of what you have been up to. We are especially interested in those that frequently commented in the past but have not in a while.

Better late than never I guess.. My service is nothing compared to that of some here, but if you want a bio / update, here it is.
Army reserve 1988-1996, most of it inactive after my reserve unit was shut down (as ate up as it was, not surprising. they called y house to find out why I wasn’t at drill… WHILE i was in basic..) Been a firefighter since 1986 (yep, about to start my 34th year). Started life outside of Philly, In Colorado now. Got a wife, a married daughter, and a son that rides bulls. Just went back to college (online so I don’t kill any of these stupid snowflakes in my classes), trying to rebuild a barn on my property, and waiting for a bigger fire department to take over mine, and drop me back from LT to firefighter..
Anyone visiting Colorado, drop me a line, and the first round’s on me!
Ohh, if it means anything, I check in a couple times a day, my dad was a Vietnam vet, he was awarded the Bronze Star with V, among others. I read the commendation (he never told me about it), and it was damn impressive…

Retired Navy Chief Hospital Corpsman. I served 1968-1991. I had 8 duty stations the first 3 1/2 years and only 4 duty stations the last 19 1/2 years. My NEC meant I didn’t PCS very often. It was a wonderful experience.

I am a retired Vietnam vet who served with the 9th Infantry Division. I worked for the American Legion for 20+ years doing veterans work. I have a pretty good legacy if anybody is interested. I recently served as a mentor for a Veterans’ Treatment Court in Frederick County, Maryland. I guess I am as busy as I wish to be. If anybody wants more info, check with CV.

Served on a “Fast Attack” oiler during The Cold War years. 2 Meds & N. Atlantic supplying Nimitz Carrier Group.

I was lured into this site by Jonn who needed some assistance tracking down some SV cases.
Apparently TAH has withdrawn as a primary source of Stolen Valor disclosures. It’s even missing from the top tab line.
Still, I will continue to read and contribute when and where appropriate.
Retired LTC, (1970-1998) U.S. Army Ranger, Special Forces, Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, etc. A Combat Engineer in my enlisted days (12B40 Sergeant), Infantry OCS Graduate, then Military Intelligence (no Military Intelligence jokes please, unless they are some I haven’t heard) and finished up as a lawyer (Judge Advocate) (no lawyer jokes please, unless they are some I haven’t heard).

SMSgt Garold Cole, 3D190. Served 18 Jan 1980 to 17 Jan 2016, 10 years active, 10 years full-time Guard, 16 years full-time Reserves. Spent most of my time in Combat Comm and TALCE. Deployed to 1st Gulf War twice, Colombia three times, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. Also deployed well over 100 times to non-combat areas.
I used to post here quite often but have been remiss in posting. Since retiring from the military I’ve been concentrating on my marriage and becoming a better husband; as I had been deployed for over 12 years of it collectively. We were headed for a divorce a year ago but we’ve been going to a Christian VA marriage counselor and the guy is great. He holds me to task and readily throws the bullshit flag. There have been times I’ve felt my blood pressure rise tremendously but after I’ve soaked in what he’s said I realize the challenge flag had been thrown. It has been the best decision I’ve made in a long time. The wife and I will be celebrating our 40th anniversary this summer, staying at the Navy Lodge for a few days at North Island.
I should mention two of our five children have joined the service; Air Force and Marines. We also have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Howdy Mason, good to see you as well. I’ve been trying to spend as much time as possible with the wife. I’m retiring from my civilian job in a year and she and I have been making lots of plans. We’re heading to Alabama on Saturday for nine days to spend with my AF daughter and family.

I found this site because of one SSG Cambodia from my unit who was in Afghanistan and told Stars and Stripes about how he was in Cambodia in the 70s and they did a story about it. This was the second link on a google search of the guy.

Best assignment ever: 1978 – Ski Patrol, Garmisch Germany. I didn’t ski yet, so ended up renting out ice skates at the 1936 Olympic Ice Stadium. Would cross-country ski from the Gebirgsjaeger Kaserne to the stadium and back …. in the dark. Learned to downhill ski using cross country skis. Mountaineering on the weekends …. ooooo baby!
I learned both downhill and cross-country skiing in the 10th SF Group; we had three weeks of ski training every winter, conducted by our own ski instructors.
One of the ski instructors/staff was a SSG in the 10th before coming to Garmisch. He had attended the Gebirgsjägerschule for a year and was authorized to wear the Heeresbergführer badge.

Somewhere near the end was lateraled to 35C (multichannel microwave if I remember correctly).
Missed the Kohbar Tower bombing by one day. As a POGUE, that’s as close excitement as I’ve ever come.
I usually try to comment on the daily FGS in the morning. After that, I’m at work with no access.

I have to thank the team running this site on providing the information on how to check on someone’s military service. My daughter was dating a cop who claimed to be a war hero in so many words. Sent off for his records- Boom! Postal clerk Ft. Hood. When confronted, he moved on without a word. As a father, I couldn’t be happier.

Served as Infantry back in the mid eighties, drafted into HQ as a Mailclerk, then worked my way through college. After trying a few things, wound up in IT for 20 years.
USMC 1977-1993, Enl, Warrant Officer, Commissioned Officer; Army National Guard AGR 2002 -2010 and retired as a Captain. Operation Eagle Claw, Desert Storm, Somalia, OIF and have been a Fire Fighter and farmer since retirement. I am in my last semester towards a BA in History and will be teaching Hist next school year. Been on the site for 6 or 7 years and am an infrequent poster
