TAH Election Day Thread

| November 4, 2014

There are many things I love about fall, especially in New England–the color of the leaves turning before being buried under six feet of snow that I have to shovel out, the cheering of the Patriots fans beating Seyton Manning like a bald-headed stepchild before losing to self-same Seyton in the playoffs, and the smell of the brined turkey about to send me into a coma, just after I finished my share of the kid’s Halloween candy haul.

One thing I WON’T miss is the plethora of ads that have inundated the airwaves since about Labor Day, if not before.

Okay, we get it. Your opponent sucks. Probably performs ritual sacrifices on small animals, too. Got it.

In NH, Scott Brown is taking on Jeanne Shaheen in what is pretty much a neck-and-neck race. Like TSO, I’m not wild about the guy’s politics, being a bit mushy, but any guy that wears a Ranger Up shirt automatically gets my vote. Period.

In Massachusetts, one of the Congressional Districts has Iraq vet Seth Moulton going up against Richard Tiesi. Tiesi is a social liberal, openly gay, and married. Moulton has FOUR tours of Iraq under his belt. Oh, and for the record, Moulton is the Democrat who rejected support from pro-LGBT groups. Dafuq? Moulton does have one group throwing him lots of cash and paying for lots of airtime–VoteVets.

As you can see, they’re up to their usual, supporting veterans, including folks like the aforementioned Scott Brown, Joni Ernst, and Tom Cotton. Oh wait, they’re not on VoteVets’ list? Silly me, those folks are Republicans! So much for that idea.

Anyway, along with a few tidbits, I’m also including links to our favorite folks of late, to see how they fare in their quest for elected office. If you find a better link, please send it to me or Jonn and I’ll update it.

So, using Stolen Valor to make a physical or financial gain is still illegal, right? Why aren’t these douchecanoes being arrested?

Flagwaver

Oh, and…

First.

DAMMIT!!! I was typing and didn’t hit “post comment” in time. Guess I need to stop concentrating on my work so much.

rb325th

Tisei gets my vote today. While I respect Moultons service, I am not a big fan of him politically from what I have seen from him on the issues. Especially Gun Control, where he wants to make it harder for law abiding citizens to own guns… like a good liberal democrat that he is.
I won’t miss all the ads, but I do hope Baker wins in Ma, Brown wins in N.H… even though I hardly agree with him on everything.

JacktheJarhead

Have to agree with you. I am not in their district, my daughter is, but Moutlton on one hand touts that he did 4 tours in Iraq but immediately says he did not support the war. Then he should have resigned his GD commission. .

Also I will be glad not to hear, that candidate A is going to kill Social Security, Medicare and not let woman make the same as men. So, scare the old people, who should be smarter than that, and piss off the women. I have a question, if women are not being paid the same for the same job, that is already illegal and the only people I see screwing with SS and Medicare are the DNC.

I am not crazy about any of the people running but Martha Chockley can burn in hell with Saddam Hussein. She would be worse than Coupe Duvall and that is pretty bad. Baker, Meh, couldn’t do any worse the Patrick. Besides, Massachusetts politics are the worst. Whoever is the chairman of the state Democratic Committee is the Governor. That is the only person the senators and Representatives listen too.

UpNorth

“The only people I see screwing with SS and Medicare are the DNC.” Indeed, it was the Progs who voted to take $700 million from Medicare to fund Øbolacare.
I will also rejoice at 8:01pm tonight, when I won’t have to sit through another political ad, at least until Jan 1 or so.

Ten Bears

How fast and far can crows fly?

GDContractor

Infinitely farther and faster than an unfueled light sport aircraft. Unless we are talking about a fake crow. Rustle rustle.

Nicki

I hate election day. I do. I think most of the people running are shit. I want to spit every time I push that button.

But I do it. With bile in my throat.

That said… I swear to dog, if any of the above shitweasels win their elections, I’m going to have a stroke!

Gravel

“Shitweasels.” hahahahahahaha almost spewed coffee out my nose.

Nicki

LOL – sorry. Hope I didn’t ruin your keyboard!

Green Thumb

Maggots.

All of them.

Nicki

I echo the “maggots” assessment.

Pinto Nag

…and I’ll have you know that you just INSULTED maggots everywhere! 😉

Nicki

Oh, oops! OK… how about cockroaches?

Isnala

Easy solution to that Nikki: run for office.

Nicki

You know… Virginia’s 10th District Congressman (Frank Wolf) told me that’s exactly what I should do back in 1998 after he did an interview with me for WINC. My answer was, “With all due respect, sir, I wouldn’t step foot in that cesspool.”

No way. I hate people too much to run for anything. In debates, there would be throat punches involved. And I couldn’t do the amount of hand-shaking and ass-kissing required to get donations.

UpNorth

I’d pay good money to watch the throat punching.
And, it’d be great to watch someone expecting to get their ass kissed get told GTFO, instead.

Pinto Nag

I feel the same way, Nicki. The best way for me to land in jail on assault charges would be for me to run for public office.

Isnala

Voted in the Peoples Republic of MD, ealy this morning. Here’s to hoping people voted their paychecks (as in enough taxes already) and there’s an upset in the govenor’s race.

But I’m not holding my breath.

Valerie

Did they make you use a touchscreen, and did it record your votes correctly?

Isnala

Yes and yes, I wasn’t about walk out until it was right. And it looks like Hogan won :)!

2/17 Air Cav

Well, if she ran for Congress, the count would be 534-1, if she wins, of course. Then, instead of having to suffer the shitweasels once every so often, she would have to associate with them daily. Eventually, she would either run away cursing and yelling or become a shitweasel herself. And so it goes.

The Dead Man

What’s the over/under on 110%+ votes for a certain party popping up again? What was the record in the last election, 139% or something stupid like that?

UpNorth

Fo shizzle, homes.

Pinto Nag

Word.

Sam Naomi

To all of you that think you know it all about Joni Ernst, and what she stands for, well I hate to be the one to say “I TOLD YOU SO’ I think she would be much better of if she stayed out on her farm and played the role of the “HAPPY FARM WIFE” Joni Ernst is no more then a HASBEEN, DID THAT, and all her other bull shit about her bringing all of her troops home, and she’d Lay her life down (etc), if this is her message to our Veterans just to get thier votes then I’d say she’s not worth the time it take to travel to the poles, and like I said at the start,” I Told You SO”

Where The Tall Corn Grows

David

Let me see – she DID THAT at least, as opposed to lying about what she had done like her opponent? Isn’t this that race?

In an election it is not about voting for the absolute best possible candidate, much of the time it’s a case of voting against whichever asshole you dislike the most.

Hondo

Bingo, David. Elections aren’t quests to find perfection, Nirvana, or the Holy Grail. They’re choices between two or more flawed candidates. You’re virtually always choosing the lesser of two evils vice opting for a perfect solution.

David

oh, and you forgot “barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen”

2/17 Air Cav

Sam. Are you referring to the Republican Joni Ernst who is running for the Senate from Iowa? The Joni Ernst who has been in the Reserves/NG for over 20 years? The one whose husband is a retired CSM and Ranger? The one who is a member of the NRA? The Joni Ernst whose Democrat opponent, Something Braley, is a lawyer and Obama man? That Joni Ernst?

Pinto Nag

So female vets have a shelf life? Who knew?

Nicki

Is that English? DAFUQ?

Sparks

Sam…On this one…just kiss my ass. Stay home and don’t vote then, that will show ’em huh. I really don’t give a shit, especially if you’re voting for her opponent.

Farflung Wanderer

Looking forward to seeing Conservatives sweep the field today!

Tune in to Mark Levin tonight, he’s going to be running coverage. I don’t know when he’ll start, likely around 1900CST.

Isnala

His live show starts at 6 pm on the east cost. Available via internet, xm/sirius, and local radio, though local radio may rebroadcast depending on the station.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Well thanks to non-existent voter ID laws here in the PRoM I am voting early and often throughout the Hampden county area, as long as you know the names of some folks who live on the street and seldom vote nobody ever questions you….just walk into any precinct, offer a street name and number and give the name you know and cast your ballot (20 or 30 times)…it’s all good.

(Kidding, I’m Kidding I tell you….(mostly))

2/17 Air Cav

“I am not on the ballot this fall. Michelle’s pretty happy about that. But make no mistake: these policies are on the ballot. Every single one of them.” The Golfer in Mom Jeans

He really is an idiot, isn’t he? I mean, all across this great land, Democrats have been running from him as they seek office or seek to be returned to office. In Maryland, one of the very few places where he was invited to speak in support of the Dem candidate for governor, A. Brown, folks streamed out while The One was talking and, within a week, Brown’s poll numbers dropped like a rock. Yet, he can’t STHU he’s so stupid. A vote for a Democrat is a vote for all of Obama’s policies. You could make this up but no one would believe it. So, elsewhere, the Dems have dug up BJ Clinton. Isn’t that great when their idea of a good endorser is a perjurer and disbarred lawyer who abused a young intern and absolutely stained the Oval Office (not to mention a blue dress)?

Mustang1LT

I know how important this election is, but some comic relief can hopefully be provided by seeing the four shitbags in the pictures above lose their respective races in a landslide. Now, I am a rock-ribbed conservative and can’t picture any scenario in which I would ever persuaded to vote for a democrat, but those 3 alleged “Republicans” would make me stay home because I just couldn’t see my way clear to supported their douchebaggery. Oh and Go Flemron! Keep on going, and don’t come back!

Mustang1LT

How many turds can one punchbowl have? You know, someone needs to study how shitbags gravitate towards each other. That could open up a whole new field of Physics. I mean, you have the various forces involved such as gravity, magnetism, strong and weak nuclear forces. Perhaps what has prevented Hawking from achieving the Unified Field Theory has been his not taking into account this turdly attraction. Food for thought….

Add NY on the Western border.

Sam Naomi

Yes 2/17 Air Cav. that’s the Joni Ernst I’am talking about, I did’nt think we had two Joni Ernst living in Iowa, one is enough. Now for some of you that don’t live in Iowa and only know what you hear and see on TV, allow me to leave you with a little message that I learned some 68 years age when I was of age to vote. I was told to “ONLY BELEIVE HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE, AND NOTHING THAT YOU SEE”. and for those of you that are watching a liitle to much TV. as to what is going on in other state other then your own, know a little about the pass of a person before you start talking about his or her pass, and as for Joni Ernst, she has spent very little time in Iowa as a FARM GIRL, I know, I only live but a short ride from her home town of Redoak, Iowa, fact is, I started a Korean War Veteran’s chapter in her County and I know for a fact that shes not all that popular with the Veterans, should I say more?????????

Sam

UpNorth

Well, Sam, I’m sure that some of those veterans voted for that ballsack, Harkin, correct?
Braley received the kiss of doom when he appeared on a stage with Mooooochelle, the wide-ass FLOTUS.

2/17 Air Cav

Sam, I don’t watch any news or news shows on TV. I’m guessing from what you’re written that Joni Ernst is portraying herself as a farm girl when, in fact, she has spent little or no time on a farm. Is that your beef with her?

Old Trooper

Well, Sam, the same could be said about Al “the fart huffing freak” Franken. As someone who lives North of you, I watched this turd pile, who hadn’t lived in the state for over 30 years, come back and set up shop (residence) and run for US Senate.

I suppose you supported that lyig SOB Harkin? Wesley Clark isn’t popular with the Veterans, either. What’s your point?

Jacobite

Well Sam, I met her in Iraq in 2003, and worked with her people, and have nothing to complain about.

Pardon me if I take a bit of your own advice and believe none of what I see you writing here. Cheers! 🙂

2/17 Air Cav

Well, the current president is the leader of the Democrats. He says that a vote for a Democrat is a vote FOR his policies. If that doesn’t make selection easy, nothing does.

Sam Naomi

Correction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“BELEIVE HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE, AND NOTHING THAT YOU HEAR”.
Sorry about that 2/17 Air Cav, thought I’d correct my self before you Rep. lite that barnfire.

2/17 Air Cav

No, Sam, this isn’t personal. I had a typo myself in my reply to you. I really am interested in why you don’t like Ernst and, presumably, prefer her opponent.

GDContractor

Sam, are you saying the autographed pig’s nutsack that I have is a fake?

OWB

Sam, speaking only for myself here, I found the few blurbs about her to be utterly believable, but didn’t really get on the Joni bandwagon for her until after hearing fro a poster here who had deployed with her. She reportedly demonstrated exactly the sort of qualities we like in military leaders and in our elected officials.

Obviously, you are seeing something different from your perspective. Echoing AC’s question – what is it exactly about her that you don’t like more than you don’t like the other guy?

Jacobite

Well Sam, I met her in Iraq in 2003, and worked with her people, and have nothing to complain about.

Pardon me if I take a bit of your own advice and believe none of what I ‘hear’ you writing here. Cheers! 🙂

Gravel

Jacobite, Nicki, and others,

FYI; Sam is an admitted Democrat … so … grain of salt, and all that.

Not that there’s anything wrong with being a Democrat, or having your own opinion on a candidate, but just realize that’s obviously what part of his opinion is based on.

Common Sense

I live in CO where the Dems passed mail ballot laws last year to guarantee their ability to steal elections. I always prefer to vote in person, partly so I know they get my votes and partly because of patriotic tradition. This year, to stop the hounding by phone and doorbell, we decided to do the mail ballots and dropped them off at City Hall last Wed. I checked the status today and my husband and son’s ballots were received and processed by mine was not. So now I have to track down what happened to it – on Election Day. Sigh.

I’m at work so I sent an email but will call this afternoon if I don’t hear back by then. They WILL count my vote DAMN IT!

David

Yes, they will…probably as many times as they think they can get away with.

Green Thumb

I wonder if Commander Phil Monkress of All-Points Logistics is out campaigning for Cushman?

They appear to have a lot in common.

I can only imaging they are looking forward to the after party with the theme: Brown-eyed dudes and red grenadine.

Sparks

I voted. I love election day. It’s a day when I remember the freedoms so many gave their lives for and it is precious to me.

I will be glad to not drive down the street anymore and have it look like a continuous ransom note made of one campaign sign after another.

AND…after today, it’s back to thoughts of…Angie Harmon! Doesn’t get better than that!

Twist

I can’t wait for this to be over. In the last two weeks I’ve had people from Begich knock on my door five times. I finally put up a sign on my door that said “A man that works nights and a very antisocial Rottweiler live here. If you wake us up I won’t be voting for your candidate.”.

Gas prices are down considerably at the pump. A short while ago, someone posted the comment that it was tied to the elections underway, but that’s completely incorrect. It isn’t even the seasonal change from summer blend to winter blend.

The Saudis decided to cut their price per barrel more than two months ago. Crude hasn’t been under $90 in a while, never mind under $80 and it’s struggling to stay up near $80. It could go lower. Think about 2001 prices at the pump.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/inside-the-ticker/saudi-oil-price-cut-takes-market-by-surprise/ar-BBcTcG7

The first thought on that when it happened was that they were competing with US oil shale drillers, but apparently that is not the case. There is something else going on with them, and it has nothing to do with this election. What it may be is anyone’s guess, but the other members of OPEC were begging the Saudis to lift the per barrel price again, and they said ‘NO’.

The article I posted hints at potential price wars. If that is what is happening, we may benefit from it.

I can remember gas wars going on in my neighborhood when gas went from 35cents/gallon to 19cents/gal. Yeah, that was back in them there olden times before higher mileage was in demand.

But look at it this way: there may be a power struggle going on with OPEC, even though the Saudis head it. If so, we po’ folks may benefit.

Pinto Nag

I heard that ISIS is funded with oil. Could that be part of it? Could someone be trying to strangle their funding?

Ex-PH2

That is a good question, and I’ve been wondering about that, too.

That Guy

Actually, fracking drove the price down so they can compete with domestic oil prices. Fracking can retrieve oil as well as natural gas.

Ex-PH2

That’s true, too, and if this goes where I hope it may, we may even see gas back at $1.199/reg.

Well, okay – I can dream, can’t I?

But something is cooking there, and the Saudis have said, back in October, that they are quite comfortable with the lower crude price and have no interest in raising it for the foreseeable future.

I’m quite willing to do the mung bean ritual dance for lower gas prices (considering that beans are generally thought to be gas generators).

UpNorth

I saw the Saudi Crown Prince who’s in charge of their contingent to OPEC on one of the news shows on FOX the other day, maybe Saturday? He looked quite content when he said the same thing, that the Saudis saw no reason to raise the price of oil, for the “foreseeable future”.

Green Thumb

Democrats cannot take credit due to the fact it will look like they support the fossil fuel industry.

Ex-PH2

Yes, democraps don’t want coal-fired power plants (fossile fuel), they don’t want nuclear power plants (radiation!!! Fukushima!!!), and they don’t even like it if natural gas is used for heating homes and cooking and water heaters (fossil fuel).

What they really want is for us peons to live in caves and wear racoon skins while they’re out partying at our expense.

Happy to disappoint them.

Green Thumb

Funny how that works.

I voted this morning, my TAH bee-atch-ez. Small ballot:

Virginia Property Tax Exemption for Surviving Spouses of Armed Forces Amendment. I voted YES!

United States Senate Ed W. Gillespie(R) vs Mark R. Warner(D) pfft

United States House of Representatives Robert J. “Rob” Wittman(R) vs Norman G. “Norm” Mosher (D) pfft

Yea, the rest was kinda like choosing between the moldy turd and the douche-canoe. Whatever.

The referendum was important to me, though. My experience? Quite pleasant. In and out, the marker worked fine(I’m always early), and it was a hand mark ballot. No hanging ‘chads’, no computer ‘gliches’ to worry about. Just my ability to stay within the lines of the little mark bubble.

Oh, and ID was required this time around. Don’t know why anyone would complain about that. You can get one free from Virginia, if you don’t have any id to.. ohh IDK… buy beer, cash checks, get a loan, drive, buy a gun, standard stuff like that.

Funny, but wow, those people are well and truly fucked up in the head. Of course, their threats and bluster fade when confronted with someone who will “street fight” with them. Bunch of suburban, wussified pansies. I’d go through the lot of them like a combine through a wheatfield. This is why there is no compromise to be had with these people. Congressional update, courtesy of Fox at approx 6:10AM today.

House is settled, with GOP having a very large majority (close to 60 more seats than the Jackass Party, with a few yet to be determined). Here’s what’s outstanding in the Senate:

Alaska – Sullivan (R) leads Begich (D) by approx 4% (approx 9,150 votes). Looks good for Sullivan, but with only 73% of the precincts reported this one could still go either way. I think Sullivan takes this one – a 9+k margin will be kinda hard to overcome in a small (population-wise) state, and the Duke of Duval has been dead for nearly 40 years.

Louisiana – currently, Mary “Lousiana Purchase” Landrieu (D) leads by 42%-41% over Cassidy(R). However, Lousiana uses the “50%+1” election rule, so there will be a runoff. Since the conservative vote was split by two candidates (Cassidy and Maness) who together got 55% of the total vote, I’m guessing “LA Purchase” Landrieu should start working on a resume and passing out copies to lobbyist offices on K Street posthaste.

Virginia – this one is a nail-biter. Currently, Warner (D) leads Gillespie (R) by approx 12,150 votes – or about 0.55% of votes cast – with 5% of the total precincts not reported. Could still go either way, but a deficit of 12+k votes is a helluva lot to make up with 95% of precincts reporting. Looks like Warner will likely retain his Senate seat.

My guess is the final Senate split after LA’s runoff will be 54(R), 46(D) – with the 46 including the two technically independents (Bernie “the Communist Socialist” Saunders, King) who vote almost exclusively (D).

Unfortunately, the GOP won’t have a 60% majority in either the House or Senate. Oh well, that was probably far too much to ask for in one election.

In other news, apparently there is hope for some “deep blue” states after all. Maybe not much hope – but there is hope.

Yes, today “Red Dawn” is a good thing. (smile)

Twist

It looks like Sullivan has won but Begich refuses to conceed. Begich complaines about attack ads in his own attack ads. If I knew nothing else about him that was enough for me to vote against him. That and his campaign kept waking me up.

I was searching for election results for Cushman when I stumbled on this:

http://www.wctv.tv/home/headlines/Intent-to-Sue-TCC—BOCC-Candidate-Steve-Cushman-278740811.html

“As of October 2014, TCC and instructor Steve Cushman, a candidate for Wakulla County commissioner, had failed to deliver the promised number of oyster-growing baskets and oyster spat.”

“Taylor also alleges Cushman has no formal education in aquaculture, and no experience in teaching aquaculture. At one point, Taylor said, Cushman brought to the class wild oysters and tried to represent them as being farm-grown. Taylor, a Wakulla County native, questioned Cushman, but tried to work within the program hoping for an opportunity to have sub-merged land for oyster farming.”

P.S. – The sack-o-shit Cushman got hammered:

Jerry Moore (R), 5,187, 46% Winner

Bill Anderson (I), 4,756, 42%

Steven Cushman (I), 1,294, 12%

A retired SEAL, Ryan Zinke, has been elected to Congress in Montana. I’ll be curious to see how he does. He’s one to keep an eye on.
