Veterans Today takes sober assessment of the Flotilla debacle

| June 2, 2010

Nah, just kidding, they are going batshit crazy again.

“Freedom Flotilla: Massacre at Sea”…. What a shame they couldn’t continue with the alliteration.

Oh, and the Irish vessel enroute to the Gaza? That would be named after Rachel Corrie, shown here passing on love, Constitutionalism and American Flag Burning to the youths of Palestine.

Rachel you may recall was run over by an Isreali bulldozer when she refused to get out from in front of it when the IDF was trying to plug up smuggling tunnels. Mind you the bulldozer driver has limited visibility, and it was not one of those NASCAR bulldozers you hear so much of, but rather the old school, 5mph ones.

I love the way everyone has beatified this chick who died protecting weapons smuggling tunnels. There used to be “Rachel Corrie Pancake Breakfasts” which seems the most asinine way ever to honor someone run over by a bulldozer. Just imagine if they held a JFK grape smashing event.

EDIT Sporkmaster. Normally I would write my own post but this is too good not to add.

Seems that they took video of them on their way there. But the best quote is this one.

The MV Rachel Corrie has now left Cyprus and is still making for Gaza. She is due to arrive there tomorrow – Wednesday 2nd June it is carrying 15 purely humanitarian activists and none? are carrying arms let’s all wish her a safe voyage the world is watching, you Zionist bastards

S6R sent me a video that he suspects is what the Rachel Corrie thing looked like:

Humph!
I think that if the ship’s crew wants to run the blockade, and give the IDF board party a hard time, then the IDF should just sink the ship. The ship, captain & crew had their warning.

As for the “Rachel Corrie pancake b’fast” — that’s funny, I don’t care who you are.

Hahaha Reminds me of the ‘peace activist’ (hahaha) who with his group was attempting to bar the shipment of war supplies from a factory, I can’t remember where but it was someplace in the US. He lay down on the railroad tracks and refused to move as the very slow moving train rounded the bend and ran over his legs. Too bad his head wasn’t on the tracks instead … then we could have a ‘Peace Pumpkin Smashing’ contest!!!

It’s just as well I don’t run the blockade because I would send the message to all ships approaching Gaza. “If you try to cross this line without yielding to inspection, we will sink your ass. No questions asked. Your choice”.

TSO:

I can understand your view of last weekend’s incident. However, there is plenty of blame to go around for the situation in Gaza. There is a Humanitarian Crisis in which poverty and hunger have actually made the people dependent on Hmas rather than isolating the group. Moreover, heavy handed tactics only breed anger which will not solve this situation. The ships smuggling weapons had to be stopped. That having been said, sending counter terror units to do it may not have been the best choice.

More is available here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7191359.stm

Your information about the death of Rachel Corrie is inaccurate at best. The IDF were bulldozing civillian houses near the refugee camps not attempting to plug smuggling tunnels. As such, she died protecting people’s homes. Though, I agree that the pncake breakfasts were bad framing.

Ah yes Rachel Corrie the useful idiot of the ISM. One of my favorite photos of her, she’s wearing her Keffiyeh too. I am with Woodman, just sink it.

HM2. Weeellll, maybe maybe not. Nothing in the Middle East is clear cut as it seems. The IDF says one thing, witnesses say another. I won’t waste time repeating the “he-said, she said” there is enough of it out there. The facts are that she and 6 others (3 british and 3 more Americans) were engaged in direct action, trying to prevent the demolition of homes, or tunnels or brush, depending upon who you listen too and she was run over. The fact that the home owners weren’t doing it themselves would lead me to believe that it might be a bit dangerous.

OldTrooper

HM2; Don’t you think that the hundreds of millions of dollars that flowed into those areas could have been better spent on helping themselves rather than buying weapons with which to attack Israel? The humanitarian crisis and poverty are of their own making.

Yeah, the Israelis are in the habit of bulldozing homes for shits and giggles. In fact, they made a sitcom about just that type of thing “Extreme makeover, home edition”, but we stole it from them and turned it into a serious show and removed the laugh track.

Sorry if I don’t subscribe to the same heartstring pity party for them as you do.

HM2 FMF-SW Ret, With due respect, what humanitarian crisis? Danish journalist Steffen Jensen goes to Gaza AFTER the boarding and fighting on the Turkish “aid” ship to see what is really going on: Problemet mere mangel på arbejde end på mad What follows is the Google translation of the article posted today. Yesterday I drove away into the Gaza Strip. I do so no longer as often as before, because while it once was just a quick flying visit by car in the morning and again late afternoon, so it is now so slow a process that when I finally take down here, then I am usually a little week. It also happens regularly that the Israelis closed the Gaza Strip by foreign journalists, so you can not get into – or out if it already does – in some days or weeks. Accordingly, there can sometimes go a little too long between my visits. This time, I had expected to see real suffering, because with all the fuss in recent days to bring some ton humanitarian relief in – so much that people actually sacrificed their lives for it – so had to really be a deep, desperate situation in the Gaza Strip. No food. Long queues in front of UN food stocks. Hungry children with food bowls. But it was not the picture that greeted me. When I yesterday morning drove through Gaza City, I was immediately surprised that there are almost as many traffic jams, as there always has been. Is there not a shortage of fuel? Apparently not. Saved at least not on it. Gasoline is not even rationed. Many shops were closed yesterday, Hamas has declared a general strike in protest against Israel’s brutal and deadly attack on the Turkish flotilla with pro-Palestinian activists on board. So it was difficult to estimate how many products on the shelves. Therefore I took over in Shati refugee camp, also known as Beach Camp, which has become entirely surrounded by Gaza City and immersed in it. Here is one of Gaza’s many vegetable markets that sell much more… Read more »

HM2, you know, I think I need to apologize, I called S. Brian Wilson a turd and I don’t know him so I shouldn’t have. If you’re looking for a conjunction, there isn’t one. Sometimes I let me wise-guy mouth get the best of me.

If you or I could fix the Middle East problems it would be a wonderful world, but we can’t. I respect your opinions, even if I dont agree with them. So I think, for my part I am just going to have to agree to disagree with you.

Nucsnipe

Oh yeah HM2 the Israelis are always launching homemade rockets into Gaza- opps reverse that, I mean the Israelis are strapping bombs onto themselves and detonating in Gaza markets and busses- opps reverse again. I mean that those Israelis are saying the Palestians have no right to exist-triple oppsie reverse again. As a retired Navy guy myself how did you retire as a Fleet Marine Corpman without the Marines beating the stupid out of you?

HM2 FMF-SW Ret

Jerry:

I’ve met Brian a handful of times and while I do not agree with everything he says, he has tremendous energy and is dedicated to what he believes to be right. That having been said, I disagree with the action that led to the loss of his legs. In order for there to be an effective action, it must result i a measurable benefit for the cause. In this case, the weapons got through, Brian was hurt and there is no benefit to anyone. No apology is necesary.

I agree that the problems in the ME are greater than both of us. However, there is a cycle of violence that stems from both sides. Both are entrenched and neither is completley in the wrong all the time. I too respect your opinions and appreciate the civil way in which you present them. We can certainly agree to disagree.

HM2 FMF-SW Ret

NucSnipe:

The Isrealis don’t need homemade weapons. They have a solid supply of real ones from the developed world with which they release disproportionate hell on the refugee camps on a regular basis. I know you are not too stupid to understand the concept of asymetric warfare. Whether or not we like it, suicide bombing is the resort of those who feel that they have no other choice. I do not, under any circumstance, agree with such tactics, yet I can understand where they come from. As long as peace remains so fragile that it can be brought to a horrendous end with one rocket and we are willing to turn a blind eye to the carnage that follows. Nothing changes. On the other hand if we withheld military support for Isreal if they insist on their heavy handed raids, there might be a different outcome.

Nucsnipe

HM2 I haven’t heard babble this hilarious since I caught an A-ganger giving a tour of the Reactor Auxillary space to a couple of female mess cranks

Disproportionate response? What, they’re supposed to shoot for a stalemate? I guess that means they’re not supposed to win…

HM2 FMF-SW Ret

TSO:

Documentation is key. Had the group Rachel Corrie was with video taped the incident, we would not have questions about what transpired. Essentially Isreal is fights a COIN type war but using tactics that only increase animosity and weakens their position politically.

HM2 FMF-SW Ret

Old Trooper:

What does a “win” look like? All of the Palestinians being dead? Isreal having all of the land? There is no win in this kind of war. They need to eliminate the threat while no making more enemies than necesary. A rocket kills three people in a mall in Isreal and they kill three hundred in rocket attacks in refugee camps. That type of attack only creates more militants and ensures the cycle will continue.

Jacobite

HM2,
A win looks like an adversary who decides it’s in their best interests to quit pissing you off. When faced with an enemy that won’t easily quit, you don’t back off, you step down as hard as necessary to make them cry Uncle. Frankly I don’t think Israel has fought hard enough, and I also believe pulling US diplomatic and military support would have the opposite effect to what you believe might happen. I’m fairly certain Israel is fully capable of knocking the shit out of any one or two powers in that region in a stand up fight, in fact they have a history of doing it. It’s also known that they have a nuclear option, and that being the case it’s probably in everyone’s best interests that we maintain our diplomatic influence so as to prevent them from feeling like they would ever have to exercise that option on their neighbors.
Funny how most of the angst concerning Israel comes from countries who have repeatedly refused to accept Palestinian refugees, and whose idea of ‘aid’ is to continue to smuggle weapons to the bad actors in the play.
It’s easy to arm chair quarterback and demand endless rounds of failed ceasefires when it’s not your home or street that’s being blown up.

Old Trooper

HM2; maybe if you look back at the entire history of this, right back to 1948, you might have a different take on it. All we ever hear is how the poor Palestinians this and poor Palestinians that (btw, Palestinian isn’t a national identity and never was; it was made up as a way to identify them in the press), but they have only themselves to blame, once again, for their misery. Did you know that Hamas has refused to accept the humanitarian aid from the ship that Israel seized? Yeah, the Israelis showed up with it in trucks, but Hamas said no. So, with that in mind, they are responsible for their own actions. The ships in the flotilla were given alternative places to port in Israel, so that the cargo could be inspected and then shipped overland to Gaza. Nope, that wasn’t good enough for them, so here we are. Now, if you want to continue to blubber on about the poor Palestinians, go right ahead, but don’t whine to me.

Also, I never said anything about a “win”, since every time they are offered land in exchange for stopping their rocket and suicide attacks on Israel, they end up breaking the deal. When they were given land and the Israelis were removed from areas they worked to improve, the Pals moved in and started sending rockets in to Israel immediately. Maybe you should be bitching about how the Pals aren’t doing things above board and never have, instead of bitching about the Israelis. Not that Hamas has in its charter the destruction of Israel, or anything. Does that sound like an organization that can be negotiated with? Keep dreaming and rubbing your lucky rabbit’s foot.

I don’t have much of an education like some of y’all but yeah, HM2 … killing all the Palestinian terrorists would be a great start toward peace for Israel and the rest of the world.

As for Brian Wilson … he may be a ‘heck of a guy’ in your opinion but I believe he comes up a little short in common sense. He is obviously not too damn bright to lay down in front of a train that takes over 1/2 a mile to stop.

THe best wat to handel future blockade runners is the old fasion way. The customary shot across the bow and order to ‘heave to’. failure to comply promply will result in the sinking of the suspect ship. Wait a day or so after the sinking and return to the area to assess the enviromental impact of the event.

Does anyone honestly believe that if the Israelis really wanted to exterminate the “Palestinians”, they couldn’t have already done it about 15 times over by now? If anything, I’d say the Israelis have been extraordinarily reserved in their response considering the hundreds of rockets that rain down on their cities over the course of a year or the innumerable assaults, kidnappings and other violence visited on them by the peaceful devotees of Mo’ The Pedo.

Had the group Rachel Corrie was with video taped the incident, we would not have questions about what transpired.

Given the leftist penchant for videotaping pretty much EVERYTHING and blaring it incessantly if it either is ambiguous or helps their cause, I’d say option 3 is the most likely–they did have video and it makes THEM look so bad that it’ll never see the light of day.
