American military contractors to deploy to Ukraine

| November 9, 2024 | 38 Comments

Team Biden lifted the restrictions on the deployment of American military contractors to Ukraine. For the first time since the Russians launched their full scale attack on Ukraine, U.S. contractors will be able to go to Ukraine to service U.S. military weapons systems. This includes the F16 and Patriot air defense systems. The Pentagon is now allowed to reach out to American companies to provide these services in Ukraine.

From CNN:

The new policy, approved earlier this month before the election, would allow the Pentagon to provide contracts to American companies for work inside Ukraine for the first time since Russia invaded in 2022. Officials said they hope it will speed up the maintenance and repairs of weapons systems being used by the Ukrainian military.

It is not clear whether Donald Trump will keep the policy in place when he takes office in January. Trump has said he hopes to end the war between Ukraine and Russia “within 24 hours” of returning to power.

“In order to help Ukraine repair and maintain military equipment provided by the US and its allies, DoD (Department of Defense) is soliciting bids for a small number of contractors who will help Ukraine maintain the assistance we’ve already provided,” a defense official said.

“These contractors will be located far from the front lines and they will not be fighting Russian forces. They will help Ukrainian Armed Forces rapidly repair and maintain US provided equipment as needed so it can be quickly returned to the front lines.”

The defense official confirmed that the US is moving forward with the plan because several of the systems the US has provided Ukraine, particularly F-16s and Patriots, “require specific technical expertise to maintain.”

The shift marks another significant change in the Biden administration’s Ukraine policy, as the US looks for ways to give Ukraine’s military an upper hand against Russia. The Pentagon is expected to start listing the contracts online soon, the official said.

Over the last two years, Biden has insisted that all Americans, and particularly US troops, stay far away from the Ukrainian frontlines. The White House has been determined to limit both the danger to Americans and the perception, particularly by Russia, that the US military is engaged in combat there. The State Department has explicitly warned Americans against traveling to Ukraine since 2022.

Glad I’m older & wiser now to not even consider one of these contracts.
Younger me would have been tempted to push my luck for the big bucks but after Biden screwed everything up in the Afghan withdrawal & the MidEast… well I’m thinking some of these guys might come back in body bags or not at all.

Green Thumb

Yep.

And so it begins….

Jimbojszz

SAM was over run with fraud. False claims of veterans status was common. Too much hassle in the program. Retired and quit the program.

Hack Stone

Never underestimate Joe’s ability to… you know the thing.

Army-Air Force Guy

Since Signal’s checking in here, my 31C ass ain’t going anywhere. Not like contractors would be begging my 55 year old ass to go.

I don’t give a crap about Ukraine but seeing them hammer Russia repeatedly makes me feel all warm and cuddly inside, like I’m Obama’s pajamas boy with cocoa. It makes me feel so good it’s literally the only thing I agree with Bidumb on. I’m okay with war on the cheap to destroy a generation of Russians. Maybe if we do it enough, China will move in on their far end and they can fight each other for a while.

That said, sending US contractors there is stupid. Let them back haul equipment out of the theater (by their own line haul) to where Ukrainian-let contracts can pay US contractors to fix stuff. Maybe Hunter could work them? I hear he’s got contacts there.

5JC

If US contractors are officially in the Ukraine they will be 100% legitimate targets and be killed dead by Russian forces. I don’t care how far from the lines they are or whether or not they are engaged in the close fight. This isn’t some kind of police action against goat herders or even beating down a large third world nation military. Russia has fired over 1,000,000 tons of artillery ordnance since the war began and they have been fighting for nearly three years. $200K a year ain’t worth dying over.

Prior Service (Ret)

Yep.

These contracts are Biden’s last kickback scheme before he leaves office. And they are not going over to fix anything, they will be there to destroy evidence.

Forest Bondurant

Precisely.

The Big Guy needs to get his last 10% before he goes back to Delaware or Scranton or wherever he claims to come from.

Odie

To which President Trump should reply to said contract” Sorry folks, your contract was with previous administration. Any American over there now is without our knowledge nor blessings. Sucks to be you”.

David

“They won’t be fighting Russians” is rather more up to the Russians.

Hack Stone

So, they’ll be fighting the North Koreans who were sent to Russia to not fight the Ukrainians?

5JC

They will be fighting whatever dude flies a drone over their little FOB and drops grenades on it.

KoB

Gotta keep that grift flowing while they can.

TopGoz

They (the Biden administration) need more people on the ground to leave behind.

Amateur Historian

Well, this comes a little late for the peace that’s coming, so I’ll just leave this here (the video becomes relevant to the posted topic at the end, so please bear with it. The rest is still interesting info, though):

Odie

Looking at the map, there’s more reddish hues than blue.

Amateur Historian

Yup, but I’ll likely not see California go red in my lifetime.

No you won’t. The D-rats control everything.

Joe Biden? Is that guy still President? We thought that he enrolled in the Retire On Active Duty (ROAD) Program.

AW1Ed

Far from the front and not fighting Russian forces- whatever could go wrong?
Besides being perfectly legitimate targets for those Russian forces they’re busy not fighting.

Hack Stone

No way that this could end in disaster. 😳

tavernknight

Biden’s last? gift to Trump, “now you’re in a war.”
Grrr !!!

Deckie

I bet he’d end it right quick, though — and decisively.

5JC

Yes, because Trump is the fascist. Idiot.
