How CBS News Buried Hunter’s Laptop

| November 9, 2024 | 36 Comments

Seems like the October Surprise happens every election cycle – someone tries to drop a bomb to derail the opposition. Oftimes, it is more or less ignored – anyone notice that supposedly Jeffrey Epstein claimed Trump was his best bud for at least a year, not just the ‘met a few times and didn’t gel’ Trump disclaimer? Hard to credit second and third-hand claims which can’t be verified. Well, we know Hunter’s laptop was buried by the mainstream media – here is part of how.

CBS News went to great lengths to squash correspondent Catherine Herridge’s reporting about the Hunter Biden laptop just weeks before the 2020 election, the award-winning investigative journalist claimed.

In her bombshell allegation, Herridge revealed she brought evidence to CBS News executive Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews and “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell in early October 2020 that the laptop contained material about “a million dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm,” along with business texts and emails from the son of Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

But later that month, Herridge wrote that she was shocked to see “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl say the laptop “couldn’t be verified” during a tense interview with then-President Donald Trump

She added that she was surprised that “60 Minutes” — which came under fire last month for allegedly editing comments made by Vice President Kamala Harris to avoid a “word salad” answer about the Middle East conflict — had not been working with the news division to confirm her reporting.

There was such a “disconnect” between the two entities, she said.

Before Stahl’s segment aired, she was contacted by Ciprian-Matthews asking her if she had “confirmed reporting” on the Hunter Biden story for O’Donnell’s broadcast.

Herridge assured the executive that her extensive reporting included “working the phones, reaching out to people on the Hunter Biden emails for corroboration and cross-referencing court records.”

“I told Ciprian-Matthews the vetted materials included a million dollar retainer from a Chinese energy firm, emails with Hunter Biden’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski as well as Hunter Biden text messages,” she said.

“Asked by Ciprian-Matthews if there was a ‘Hunter connection,’ I responded, ‘Yes, all of them,’” she wrote.

Sounds pretty clear to me, grist for a news group’s mill, right?

The journalist noted that based on her experience at the network, she found it odd that CBS News did not task the investigative unit in October 2020 to develop more reporting on the laptop.

“That would have been standard practice,” Herridge wrote.

The Post (NY Post – ed.) was the only mainstream publication to report at the time that the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden — leading to a ban of the story by social media giants Facebook and Twitter.

It took an additional two years for CBS to broadcast a forensic review of the Hunter Biden laptop data. By that time, Ciprian-Matthews had been elevated to the role of CBS News president.

Not to mention that the election that mattered in 2020 was dead and buried, Hunter’s daddy and China beneficiary in the White House.

Herridge was ousted earlier this year amid sweeping cuts at the network and parent company Paramount Global. CBS News seized Herridge’s reporting materials upon her termination.

Sources close to the situation claimed that the decision to hold on to her files was made by Ciprian-Matthews. The files were returned days later amid pressure from the union representing Herridge.

Earlier this year, The Post revealed that Ciprian-Matthews was accused of sidelining white journalists and blocking Herridge’s reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop.

The exec abruptly stepped down in August, and moved to the role of senior adviser for coverage of the 2024 presidential election before. She is set to exit the company after the election. NY Post

Don’t think Ms. C-M (pictured above) is headed to the White House, now, is she?

I don’t want them regulated as press. 1A and all. Good.

They should have to declare the in-kind political contributions just like anyone else. Nowhere in the 1A does it set “press” as specially exempt. It says “the People”. CBS has no more, or less, rights than me.

So if I have to declare, so do they.

And the Constitution, most definitely, prevents declaring some folks “noble”. And the 14A makes it explicit, “equal”.

So when does CBS, or Fox, have to start declaring their efforts?

(Kicking that hornet nest hard)

They should have asked Lars if the laptop was real. He was direct line to the White House & Langley…
Of course, the FBI new it was authentic in 2019 and was used in Hunter’s weapons trial in Delaware. The FBI tech testified at the trial that the laptop was authentic and unaltered.
The Media Industrial Complex has been the propaganda arm of the DNC since the days of St. Barry.
This election proved how the MIC has become almost irrelevant, and operates as nothing more the gossip rag your grandmother used to read. The young voters get the news from X, YT, Substack, and other non-traditional sources.

Even though 60 Minutes was biased, at one time they were credible. That was really the only thing they had going for them. Now they don’t have that either.

Green Thumb

Yep.

Also Lars referred us to the memo signed by all the experts when asked about the laptop. That played out as well as the fake dossier, Russian Collusion, the J6 committee and all the other bullshit stunts the Demonclownic Party has tried over the last eight years.

Hope he is getting good care.

Yup. It’s really about the competition.

IMHO today’s mainstream news media is at least a few degrees less credible than the likes of the National Enquirer and the Weekly World News. It’s nothing new to me, I still remember the news magazines doing crusades against Ronald Reagan, one example being shortly after the 1984 election one of them, either Slime or Snoozeweek that had an article about Walter Mondale and how he just didn’t deserve to lose in such a biblically huge landslide, it was editorialized to try to make Reagan look like a bully, that and they JUST KNEW they were going to crash the Reagan Presidency over Iran/Contra and of course they didn’t, I just wonder what the lamestream DNC lackey media will try to smear DJT with first now that he has been reelected?

Somehow, it only worked on Minnesota, Hawaii & D.C.

My above comment was supposed to go on the FEMA Post, looks like I goofed on that one.

jeff LPH 3 63-66

I just copied and pasted the above Fema post on the actual FEMA post. Am going through a lot of keyboard ink on this deal.

Gonna have to buy a new keyboard ribbon soon Jeff

I could take the one out of my Smith Corona Galaxie non electric portable typewriter and use that one. My Paymaster 8500 series
mechanical checkwriter doesn’t use a typwriter ribbon though.

PBS for the win.

Would be funny as heck if Trump bans all the Donk-adjacent media from the Whitehouse press pool as “campaign staff, not press, as recently proven”, then welcomes hostile but small new media and takes their questions.

“See Bee Ess has the same rights to press pool seats as any other Swinging Richard Democrat campaign staff. None. It’s someone else’s turn. We selected media across the spectrum. Others will rotate through. …. No, I didn’t mean male only. I meant act like male appendage, Richard. Next question. Sit down. Next question.”

Ms Thang was just waiting for Dan to get the frequencies from Kenneth. Nothing to see here, Citizen…Move along!

What I want to see the sleaze media report is the start of all of the treason trials.

Amateur Historian

There seriously needs to be a conversation in our country about what the media says and does. I am an ardent supporter of the 1A, but things with the MSM have gone too far. Suppressing the laptop story to influence the election in favor of Biden (election interference!). Not one. Not two. But three assassination attempts on DJT. After the 1st attempt, the media did nothing to scale back their rhetoric and even published, for all to see, the 2nd assassin’s letter, encouraging further attempts (media incitement to violence!). As I said, I’m 1A supporter, but calls to violence and lies should not be protected.

Amateur Historian

So, after some self-reflection over my stance above, I’ll say I was conflicted on my last sentence. Would those types of speech be banned? Does that violate 1A? What form does that ban take? Would it protect all parties and the rights of individuals? Is it wrong?

After asking myself those questions, I’ve decided lies are protected speech, but how they’re used could be grounds for libel and slander. As for incitement to violence, I read that, in court, the bar to prove incitement is set very high, especially when it comes to political speech. I’m just questioning whether or not that bar is set too high.

I disagree. The 1A should have no limits.
Any types of limits will be a double edged sword that will be used almost exclusively against conservatives.

26Limabeans

And they would use that sword to cut the very tongue
they oppose. Speech should be unlimited.

Fyrfighter

On the subject of inciting violence, what about if someone stood up and offered big money for someone to kill a politician.. not beating around the bush, calling them a threat, but straight up asking someone to do the deed. Should that be protected?

I am all for the bill of rights, and thing that they mean what they say, But I think that when there is a conflict with some other natural law, like murder being illegal, to me that’s the line.

I’d guess that everyone here would say that the part of the 1st Amendment regarding freedom of religion wouldn’t include sanctioning human sacrifice for the same reason.. I could be wrong, but that’s the way I see it.

Amateur Historian

I agree with this too.

Amateur Historian

That is the exact thing that I was agonizing over with my follow up post. I 100% agree with you, but the media is 100% going out of it’s way to get people to try and kill the President-Elect. That needs addressing, but not in a way that violates 1A. In my initial post, I caught myself talking like a authoritarian leftist and I self corrected. As for lying, as I stated that can be handled is civil court depending on how the lie is use (Trump, in my view, has a gold mine’s worth of evidence to prove defamation of character).

Amateur Historian

Also, when I was writing my initial post, I was angry. That’s likely why I initially wrote something that was against my values. Mea Culpa.

I am more with the SCOTUS, no “fire” in a crowded theater when there is no fire (Public safety, criminal issue).

No calling people pedophiles unless they are actual pedos (this is a civil issue, not criminal).

“Step away from the Jackboots.. ”

Now you see why Frodo failed to toss the Ring in the volcano.

11B-Mailclerk

The current interpretation of “public figure” is essentially “can’t really libel the famous”. So Trump has no practical recourse beyond running their lawyer meter for a while. “Actual Malice” is blatantly obvious, but somehow never enough.

Still better than junking the first amendment. But as I state elsewhere on this post, there are alternative ways to … express dissatisfaction.

11B-Mailclerk

Ignore the dicks.

Don’t give them press passes, because “proven campaign staff”. Issue a rotating set of passes to media that prove some balance and no fraud. Trump seems to like tough questions, because he gets to monolog a reply. If he “opens up the pool” to more press, and some are openly challenging, hard for a court to say he is “suppressing the press” by exclusions, when he is more inclusive. No one firm has any more right to be there than any other. 1A, 14A. They are not nobility.

Especially if he provides a means to fess up, admit they were campaigning, pay the fines for undeclared contributions, and enter the same drawing for seats, just like anyone else.

Because they -cannot- be ignored. It is -doom-. So they will geek.
