Usha Vance makes Greenland nervous
Vice President Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, will be visiting Greenland this week and they aren’t happy about it.
Greenland’s prime minister warned Sunday of “American aggression” and lamented a “mess” caused by the upcoming visit from Vance, who will be accompanied by Trump’s national security adviser and energy secretary.
We already have a Space Force base in Greenland, Pituffik SB – you old-timers will know it better as Thule AFB, as it was formerly named.
Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, and Energy Secretary Chris Wright will also be travelling (sic) to Greenland, the White House said.
Greenland, which is in a transition status between recent March 11 elections and the new government being installed, views the visit as an unannounced state visit. Greenlandic Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede (the old PM stays in office until the new government is formed) said:
The visit of “the wife of the United States vice president and the United States president’s highest security adviser cannot be seen only as a private visit,” he said. “We can already see now, how big a mess it’s caused.”
The likely next Greenlandic leader, Jens-Frederik Nielsen of Demokraatit… “When foreign dignitaries travel to our country on what are called private visits, it rightly causes concern,” he wrote on Facebook. “There is no reason to panic. But there is good reason to stand together and to demand respect. I do. And I will continue to do so.”
They have reason to be apprehensive – President Trump has repeatedly said he wants Greenland.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly said that the U.S. will come to control Greenland while insisting he supports the idea for strategic national security reasons — not with an eye toward American expansionism.
“So you have to ask yourself: How are we going to solve that problem, solve our own national security?” JD Vance said on Fox News. “If that means that we need to take more territorial interest in Greenland, that is what President Trump is going to do, because he doesn’t care about what the Europeans scream at us.”
Seems to blow past Trump and Vance that Greenland is a protectorate of Denmark, a NATO member and ally. Or, perhaps, they really don’t care about NATO.
Vice President JD Vance — her husband — blasted Denmark for “not doing its job” and “not being a good ally.” AP
“Gimme your lunch money. Be a pal. Or I’ll beat you up” is the kind of threat a grade school bully makes.
Damned if I can hear the difference.

I don’t really understand what your gripe is.
“Or, perhaps, they really don’t care about NATO.”
Should they? Why?
NATO is nothing more than a group of countries in Europe counting on the US to defend them against the existential threat of the Soviet Union…oh…wait.
Well, I guess since the Soviet Union was economically defeated by the US and has long since collapsed, NATO is now more to defend against the Russian military juggernaut that would be able to easily invade any European country and walk over it in days…oh…wait.
So basically NATO is for Europe to feel safe and secure knowing that the US taxpayer is picking up the tab for their security…that way they can afford to pay for their lavish socialist policies.
“Vice President JD Vance — her husband — blasted Denmark for ‘not doing its job’ and ;not being a good ally.'”
Um…how is pointing out the aforementioned penchant for European countries (including Denmark) to neglect their duties and rely primarily on the US (and its taxpayers) for their security being a bully?
Sometimes the truth hurts. That doesn’t make the truthteller a bad person.
We do not own Greenland.
That seems pretty clear.
Irrelevant and doesn’t even make sense.
We don’t own Greenland so we’re…what?…not allowed to talk about it? Not permitted to express interest in increasing our influence there? Forbidden from making our case that we’d be a better steward and protector than Denmark?
Why?
Be specific.
Either get out of NATO or act like a NATO member. As long as we are signatories to all the treaties that make up the NATO alliance, we should act like it. Threatening to take someone else’s territory is not the actions of an ally.
It’s not threatening. We are just making an offer. A generous offer. An opportunity for those lost souls to join our constitutional republic and leave that corrupt European Empire.
I will agree with some of the comment previously made. Our NATO allies are not going to be able to protect their own country, let alone a strategically important access front to our homeland, minerally rich, and also ready access to the Artic.
#47 wants it to be a protectorate of the US, instead of feeble Denmark, in order to legally and non-provocatively forward base our troops. Russia will size it like the Crimea as an opening salvo to provoking NATO while China starts it’s war against Taiwan.
She’s welcome to visit me anytime she wants.
Bad Tally Whagger!
If you look at a world map you can see that both Greenland
and India are the same identical shape with India only half
the size of Greenland.
Not sayin that means anything, just sayin…
India is not half the size of Greenland.
Greenland = 836k square miles
India = 1.2 million square miles.
Countries far north appear bigger because of the Mercator projection. Mercator maps distorts size as it moves away from the equator, inflating the size of places like Russia, Canada, Greenland and Alaska. Russia might the largest country in the world by size, but it is only about the size of North Africa.
Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear.
It’s impossible to represent a sphere on a flat map. That’s why the distortion happens.
If you keep saying deep and intelligent stuff like that, you’re really gon a need to drop the ” slow” part of your name…
One of the stranger conspiracy theories floating out there is that Trump “knows” that glacial pack there is going to melt in the next 30 years or so and he wants to either exploit that or prevent it, depending upon who you are.
Trump just wants to keep it from capsizing.
“Orangeland”
LOL their heads would explode
You may joke, but, uh…. “Red, White and Blueland” is a thing:

This is pretty funny – a man in Greenland made his own “MAGA” hats:

OK, that’s funny! I hope.he makes good.money off it. It’s a rather short sighted sentiment, but funny none the less
