Mother, 16-month-old son, and her 75-year-old mother stranded at airport for ‘misgendering’
Jenna Longoria uploaded a video telling her audience what had just occurred. She apparently misgendered a flight attendant, which caused another flight attendant to refuse to board her mother, son, and her. She was traveling with her 16-month-old son and her 75-year-old mother at the time. Their luggage was left on the aircraft, so both Longoria and her mother did not have access to their medications.

One would think that she has the right to sue hell out of United. But then again…the alphabet crowds are the only ones with rights anymore, so there is that.

This is precisely what she’s doing. She made a post calling on folks who witnessed what happened to contact her lawyer.

I wonder if there’s more to this story. The airline claims she had too many carry-on bags, she claims she was refused passage due to misgendering. Of course, this being 2024, she went to social media, it went viral, and now everyone and their transgender ex-neighbor’s grandniece’s cat has an opinion. You know, back in the day people would escalate any issues they had with the actual business before seeking the Court of Public Opinion’s ruling on a matter. Customer service not helpful, ask for a supervisor, that doesn’t work, email corporate, still no resolution, maybe contact local media. But, again, it’s 2024, and we all carry something much more powerful than any tool previously known: a smartphone loaded with apps that will get our story out there.
That said, regardless of the real reason she was stuck at the airport, it might only be a matter of time before misgendering leads to severe consequences. I’ve seen several comments here about how it’s a shame that the burning of the US flag is protect, but the burning of a Pride flag is construed as a hate crime. Before long, we may find ourselves detained and questioned for calling “Ma’am” a man or “Guy” a gal. Missing a flight sucks, but when it’s in the name of social justice and inclusion it’s a small price to pay.

The video did not change anything, in fact, it’s even more damning than the shorter version linked above. This is San Francisco we’re talking about. The woman she talked to had to gather statements, and time was short and thus may not have been able to do anything about getting the passenger’s luggage back.
She has retained a lawyer and is looking for statements from the other passengers who may have heard the interaction.
Bottom line, regardless of what others may think of her situation, we should take things like this seriously. This is a light version of what they’re already doing in China (social credit system). Something simple like this could eventually lead to a situation one day where your phone “turns you in” if you say the wrong thing, followed by your being cut off from your ability to get food and other basic necessities.

If I was still a practicing lawer, I would like to have her case, assuming her version is accurate. But I would lay venue in a federal court other than the one in San Fransicko. United will pay big $$$$$ to settle this case before it goes to trial.
The airline is going into overdrive to protect themselves from backlash. They’ve seen what happens when “woke” is placed above good business practices.

I’ve seen numerous videos in the past few years where passengers were given a hard time due to the statements on their masks or shirts. These statements did not compare to statements I’ve read on people’s shirts back when I flew, the last time was in 2017.

This is what matters, regardless of what people think of her situation, someone getting kicked from the flight for misgendering trumps what folks might think of her situation. I’ve seen a video where a young man wearing a “Let’s go Brandon” mask was told that his mask was offensive and that he had to accept the one that the flight attendant gave him. There was another video of a guy similarly being given a hard time for a shirt or hoodie that didn’t have a politically correct statement. Noncompliance on either of their parts risked their getting removed form their respective flights.

Listened to both the short and long versions and other than the United rep’s second-hand statement, there is basically one side of the story presented. The United rep clearly says the woman said something else for which the pilot kicked her off…I’m withholding judgement till I hear their side of the story.
The United rep said that she was kicked off the flight, by the pilot, for something that “came out of her mouth”. She chose her words carefully, as this isn’t the first time that mishandled passengers, like that case of the Doctor who received extra physical treatment on a United Airlines airplane, led to a chain of events that ended in the company paying a settlement. The last thing that the rep needed to do was to provide the woman and her lawyer with ammunition.
I remember posting an article here about a former wrestler taking to social media trying to denigrate the establishment that stopped serving him alcohol. No lawyer retention in his case from what I read… This may have changed later, but many would take to social media to “get back” understanding that they didn’t have a case to take to court.
The above woman has retained an attorney, and asked for folks who witnessed the event to contact her lawyer. I doubt that she would’ve done this if she completely made her story up.

If there was no guilt involved, she would’ve been able to specify what the passenger said, and how that lead to her being removed from the flight. This isn’t the only case like this I’ve come across, in the majority of instances, they’ve spelled out what was said, and what was done. This usually happens when they’re in the right.

This is a strawman comparison. People have turned to Twitter, TikTok, Reddit, Discord, and similar social media as the SOLE means to get back at an organization, especially when they are in the wrong and would rather twist things around to make the other party wrong. This is not the case here. She’s not firing as hard as the others have, and she has asked for potential witnesses to contact her lawyer.

Was she there? No. How, then, would she know what the passenger said? Why, second or third-hand testimony, of course. And we all know how reliable that is. Like I said, she was smart enough to say as little as possible.

If she were there, she would not have said, “it was something you said” and that “the pilot was the one that removed her from the flight”. This is an indication that she did an initial investigation, as would normally be the case when there is a problem like this at the airport.
Had the staff told the representative, “We removed her because of something she said,” the representative would’ve asked what it was that was said. The representative would’ve needed the firepower she needed to tell the complaining passenger why what happened to her happened.

This is the strategy you use if you’re in the wrong. You don’t want to give the opposing lawyer ammunition for a lawsuit. However, if you’re in the right, and the explanation for removal was valid, consistent with SOP, regulations, the law, the facts, etc., she would have detailed that to the woman filming the video.
You are overlooking the fact that the airlines frequently demand that passengers with carry-on bags check them upon entry to the aircraft due to a shortage of overhead space. That has happened to me repeatedly. Those bags are then taken to the aircraft’s baggage hold and end up at the baggage carrel.
