ACSD: One person dead in shooting at mobile home park near Fort Wayne International Airport

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – The Allen County Sheriff’s Department (ACSD) shares that one person is dead following a shooting at a mobile home park near Fort Wayne International Airport Saturday evening.According to ACSD PIO Brent Bollinger, a domestic-related incident was called in just after 5:30 p.m.
Bollinger says an uninvited, armed man entered a Woodlake Estates mobile home at the 100 Block of Chrisren Cove, where he was shot and killed by the homeowner. The man, woman, and two children who live in the home were not hurt.
At this time, the identity of the person who died has not been released, nor a cause.

Uninvited and armed? Why didn’t the homeowner simply call the police and shelter in place with his family behind a locked bedroom door? Was violence and the tragic loss of life necessary? I think we all know the answer. Mobile homes aren’t exactly built like fortresses. A tin manor should be protected the same as any stone citadel. Good thing there’s Castle Doctrine.
We’ve gotten exactly one BRX1 in so far, in .308. I put it out last week, along with about 40 other guns. The action is unique (the only other straight pull we sell is the Savage Impulse) and I’m sure it’ll sell before long, with hunting season rapidly approaching. Once it does, we should get more… it seems the company sends us new stuff and then replenishes it according to how quickly it sells.

I’ve always heard various stories about the performance of the Stoner-designed rifle in the ’60s, from the change in powder to the lack of proper cleaning kits. One story I recall from Robin Moore’s The Green Berets is of a Soldier smashing his M16 against a tree when it failed during a firefight (It’s probably been 25 years since I read that book). Despite all of the issues, the M16-series and its derivatives essentially changed the way small arms are procured. Where the Ordnance Corps and Springfield Armory had previously called the shots, by the 1970s Springfield was gone and Army Materiel Command picked up where Ordnance left off.
Oh, and I forgot the mention the M16 and M4 are the longest-serving service rifles in US history. From the initial USAF adoption in 1962 through the foreseeable future (the Army and Marines adopted new rifles/carbines, but it’ll take years before the M16A4/M4/M4A1 are fully replaced), the design has over 60 years of battle-proven service.
What’s the price tag on that BRX1? I looked through the article, but it either didn’t say, or I missed it.

Very nice! I like the straight-pull action. I’m betting they don’t produce a LH variant, however.
It’s ambidextrous, with a reversible bolt handle. I tried swapping ours around to mess with the gun counter folks and customers but didn’t read the instructions first so I figured I’d quit while ahead.

Robbery? Really? I’m not seeing it. You gotta be desperate to try to rob someone’s possessions who lives in a trailer park. Poor victim selection skills.
After hours drug deal gone bad? Possibly. “WE’RE CLOSED! COME BACK TOMORROW!” That doesn’t always go over well on a strung out user.
Or he was high, trying to get home, and broke into the wrong trailer. It’s difficult to tell one trailer from another when you’re stoned.

“The coroner’s office will release the name of the victim and cause of death at a later date.” “victim” *sigh* A “victim” of his own stupidity…also could be listed as the “cause” of death, single gunshot wound to center mass notwithstanding. Makes one wonder if the home defender was using a caliber that started with a .4?
