New York Times’ Untold Damage
The New York Times does a bit of lobbying for the gun control industry today with a piece entitled “Untold Damage: America’s Overlooked Gun Violence” in which they recount incidents of gun violence which they claim goes largely unnoticed because it happens in minority communities.
Most of the shootings occurred in economically downtrodden neighborhoods. These shootings, by and large, are not a middle-class phenomenon.
The divide is racial as well. Among the cases examined by The Times were 39 domestic violence shootings, and they largely involved white attackers and victims. So did many of the high-profile massacres, including a wild shootout between Texas biker gangs that left nine people dead and 18 wounded.
Over all, though, nearly three-fourths of victims and suspected assailants whose race could be identified were black. Some experts suggest that helps explain why the drumbeat of dead and wounded does not inspire more outrage.
“Clearly, if it’s black-on-black, we don’t get the same attention because most people don’t identify with that. Most Americans are white,” said James Alan Fox, a professor of criminology at Northeastern University in Boston. “People think, ‘That’s not my world. That’s not going to happen to me.’ ”
They talk about the 358 mass killings that have happened in the last year as an indictment of the “gun culture” in America. Most of the incidents were perpetrated by illegal gun owners who aren’t affected by gun control legislation. What they don’t mention are the hundreds of incidents in which licensed and legal gun owners protect themselves and their families almost everyday.
Here are 417 incidents which have happened as recorded by This Ain’t Hell since January 1st, 2016 – that’s an average of 2.8 incidences every day so far this year that a lawful gun owner defend themselves or their families from a criminal;

Police only verify that it wasn’t them who shot the fellow. “Authorities aren’t saying whether the suspect was shot by someone in the car, the other would-be carjacker or someone else on the street.”
That’s 417 incidents of innocent people who were forced by circumstances to defend themselves and their families. Gun control won’t disarm the criminals. The Washington, DC metro police department can attest to that – guns were largely illegal since 1974, but they still take 2,000 illegal guns off the streets every year. How different would those stories above end without legal gun ownership.
Thanks to Chief Tango for the NYT link.

I see you are over your writer’s block.
Well done sir.
I’d like to see the nyt present their case to these guys and get them to turn in their guns. Should make a real nice video. http://www.vice.com/read/huey-does-dallas-0000552-v22n1
If Those People are REALLY maintaining the peace in the hood….well and good. But, since they are Those People, I suspect something unpleasant is going to happen…not to US but to THEM.
Well said, Jonn!
I wonder how many of the employees of the NYT have access to a gun or armed security?
When they give up their rights to gun ownership, I’ll give up my rights ( BTW – ain’t gonna happen!)
FTNYT!
Holy shit. That’s a lot of cutting and pasting. The fact is–and I do see it as fact–that middle America cares when random violence affects middle America, whether the victim be black or white. What I agree that middle America doesn’t lose sleep over is gang members killing other gang members of drug dealers killing other drug dealers. Do I care that a member of a white supremacist group killed another member or a Crip killed a Blood? If I’m supposed to care, I didn’t get that memo.
Kinda like a self-cleaning oven to me…
If the shitbags kill eachother, the problem is taking care of itself. There’s a mess to clean up, but what the hell. I have a problem when their shitbaggery starts hurting innocent bystanders. Otherwise, fuck ’em straight to hell.
The real question is why doesn’t the black community get upset over the killings? Why don’t they cry out for law and order and an end to the lawless violence. Why does the the black community not help investigations and turn in criminals?
That’s racist! Obviously, you did not get the memo, they are not criminals, they are “Justice involved individuals”.
The ‘reverend’ al and similar buttwipe race baiters know there is no money in trying to lessen BoB violence. The shakedowns of companies and individuals is too lucrative. The ‘reverend’ al thinks erecting a statue to a douchebag who gets whacked is an appropriate response to the problems within a community. Well, actually he doesn’t think that, but for him and fellow turds, it’s all about image. Oh, and money, just follow the money. Wonder what the ‘reverend’ al will do when/if Trump is elected. He has stated he will leave the country. Wonder what country would welcome such a turd? Can’t be a poor country; there will be far fewer shakedown opportunities for him to exploit.
It’s all about the money. And money. And money. Oh, almost forgot, MONEY! Sharpton, et al don’t give a flying ratfuck about the plight of black communities. They just found a steady supply of cash. There’s a special place in Hell for those shitweasels.
Maybe you should watch WGNTV news, Foxbat. The black community DOES call for an end to this violence on a regular basis. It gets reported regularly on the news.
Just because a bunch of New Yawkers who never leave the comfort of their overpriced broomclosets write an article based on their own ignorance and lack of real research, it does not mean that the black community is NOT trying to do something about it.
The point of the article is gun violence, not which ethnic group is responsible for it.
Years ago a friend that I worked with was murdered. He was AA, and he was murdered along with his sister and her baby (wrong place/wrong time caught in a domestic issue) by the AA father/jilted boyfriend of the sister.
All 3 were shot, tossed in the trunk of her car and lit on fire.
I went to the funeral where the pastor of his church blamed their deaths on “White People for not caring about AAs”. The only whites involved in this case were the cops and his friends, but it was our fault…
I’m wondering if the nyt “reporters” and their peers are not simply suffering from being members of a community more insular than any Appalachian “holler” in the 1920’s.
They are so inbred and parochial that they are simply not able to comprehend anything beyond their very limited experiences and prejudices.
Sad.
Only 417 since 1/1/2016 (and those are just the ones Jonn was able to post).
And for the 417 cases that you’ve reported here, how many hundreds more are there that don’t get news attention?
How many hundreds don’t even get reported to the police?
Leave it to the NY Times to “be offended” for other groups they won’t associate with from their comfy chairs.
As a TAH regular pointed out some months ago, the old grey lady probably only exists today because they faced down an angry mob of civilians with Gatling Guns back during the Draft Riots. Fucking hypocrites.
Even the FBI says privately-owned weapons help a lot more than they hurt!
“People think, ‘That’s not my world. That’s not going to happen to me.’ ” I agree with the professor for two reasons. First, I do not live in a crime-infested, gang-ruled, community. I don’t give a shit what happens in Oakland or Detroit just as I don’t give a shit what happens in Mexico or Brazil, except to the extent that decent adults or innocents children are affected. Second, the reason “That’s not going to happen to me” is that I am usually armed.
Your points make WAY too much sense for the NYT.
Let’s just read about how the NYPD saw things in 2015 in New York City:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/analysis_and_planning/year_end_2015_enforcement_report.pdf
Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter victims are most frequently Black (63.7%) or Hispanic (27.6%). White victims account for (6.0%) of all Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter victims while Asian /Pacific Islanders account for (2.7%) of all Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter victims.
The race/ethnicity of known Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter suspects mirrors the victim population with Black (62.1%) and Hispanic (29.6%) suspects accounting for the majority of suspects. White suspects account for (5.8%) of all Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter suspects while Asian/Pacific Islanders accounted for (2.5%) of the known Murder and Non-Negligent Manslaughter suspects.
Clearly you are a racist for using facts and statistics instead of emotions. /sarc
I have been known to frequent stock car tracks and also bet on the ponies….
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_New_York_City
Compare NBCguy’s numbers to the demographic numbers to get the real story.
What the NYT and other news outlets need to do is some slef-reflecting as to why THEY are not reporting the black-on-black crime instead of placing the blame elsewhere.
As Ex-OS2 would say: Cocksuckers
Well, you see, they don’t live or even think about Chicago, and how gang-related crime activity has risen since da Maire (Daley) tore down the projects so that he could sell the real estate to developers. That includes the nearly nightly shootings on the expressways (Dan Ryan, Stephenson, etc.) usually late at night or very early morning.
They don’t report on how black-on-black crime has made what were relatively safe south side neighborhoods into scary places. They don’t, and won’t, report that there are place in Gary, Indiana that are so bad even the police won’t go into those areas. And they won’t do it, because it has nothing to do with them. They only know that they’re afraid of BUNNZZZ!

NTY thesis is because minorities commit a lot of crime and are victims of crime, everybody should be unarmed, so more non blacks should be victims of crime.
lol wat
Libtards. Libtards never change.
You have to be made to understand that the proper role of the Citizen is “supplicant”: you are to ask the Government for succor, not rely upon some ill-imagined self-reliance.
The central principle is “State control of the means of production”. You and everyone else is a “means of production”. You will be controlled, like eveything else.
They really are that simple, in their thinking. The correct answer is always “Your betters know best, and they will do what is best for Soceity as a whole. Your job is to obey, and to believe in, your betters.”
