Weekend open thread
I’m taking some mental health time off. You guys go ahead and talk among yourselves. Drop off links, call each other names, exchange recipes, whatever it is you do in these things. Maybe some of the others will write something for you, but I need a break. Enjoy.

anyone remember the story of the WWII vet whose daughter transferred the title of his house and was tying to evict him? It does have a happy ending. http://gma.yahoo.com/92-old-world-war-ii-vet-avoids-eviction-113806474–abc-news-personal-finance.html
I found a stick bug this morning on my freshly painted porch. Most stick bugs are from Asia or South America. There is an illegal alien joke there … but I won’t do it (this time). I captured the stick bug … it did not put up much of a fight. Apparently they make good pets. Lettuce leaves sprayed with fine mist of water is all they need. Thank God I have a pet, friend and or companion that is quiet!

“Theopolis North” is a name and a great book.
I have Mikey the Large and In Charge. I have figured out how to put my little camera on video so that I will be able to capture the cheetah stud dance for all of you to see.
Remember this story?

Apparently someone who runs a FB page hijacked the photo of the Marine standing guard and wrote some heart warming BS story of some old man dying and a Marine showing up to be with him since his son couldn’t. I pointed out the BS with a link to the true story, which was promptly deleted. And from the comments on the page, I’m not the only one who threw the BS flag. But what’s sad are the people responding with “Who cares if it’s true, yada yada yada “. Well I care you tiny minded shitbags. Apparently a made up story of an old man dying trumps the true story of a boy dying of cancer. Pisses me off.
@ 1 Andy.
A few words come to mind after reading this:
Redneck.
Scumbag.
Loser.
Thief.
No doubt future resident of HELL!
“The story goes back to 2004, when Potter (WWII Vet) and his wife, who has since died, gave the general power of attorney to his daughter for future matters if they declined in health, including to take care of her autistic adult brother, now 64. His daughter Janice Cottrill eventually used that power to allegedly convey the deed to the one-story home to herself, Fraley said. In 2010, Potter said he learned of the deed transfer and switched power of attorney to his granddaughter, Fraley. But it was too late legally to reverse the deed transfer.”

Think we can get Psul to join us?
OT, I hope not. Jonn and TSO need a break from the weapons grade crazy. Thus, lets not antagonize his over the weekend and let them rest.
I hate this iPad keyboard thing. That should be him.
Can’t fool us Jonn…you’re in a spider hole waiting for Witless to try a stealthy approach.
I don’t wanna sound queer or nothing, but this is the best thing I ever ate.

Also, we need to use the insult ‘fagfuck humperdinck’ more often.
My two cents.
Also, in an attempt to be more of an asshole, I’ve begun addressing all people of grecian descent as ‘Mister or Misses (or miss) Popadopolous.
And I am unimpressed with iOS7. Oh man, now I can listen to apple radio? THANKS GUYS, I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO IHEARTRADIO FOR FIVE YEARS. Way to join the party, johnny come-lately, and you didn’t even bring any chips.
Yeah, so I brew a pot of Navy style joe. Set up everything to paint the trim on the porch, and it starts raining.
Mother Mary, Jesus Christ and holy St. Joseph … give me a break!
Thank the good Lord on high it is fast dry acrylic paint … going for it!
“Bless me Father for I have sinned, my last confession was … ah … a long time ago!”
I refuse to spend one cent on any of Apple’s contraptions because they are just overpriced tinkertoys that are easily pirated and copied and made cheaper by other competitors.
My sister is, on the other hand, in love with everything Apple and refuses to use the word ‘computer’. To her, if it isn’t a Mac or an Applethingy, it doesn’t exist.
So, anyone got any advice on the formate for shooting a digital video for online stuff? This is in regard to the frames-per-second. I can do TV format, movie format and time lapse format. I want to get Mikey doing it soon. He’s an older kitty, but he’s still got it goin’ on.
Susan, can you send me an e-mail? I have something to ask you.
LSU is tough.
Phildo is still avoiding calls.
Nervous about the frost.
Off to a game!
St. Louis Cardinals world series champs. Its gonna happen!
I have household tasks to perform this weekend. I also have short pasta, shredded cheese, onions, shredded ham, bacon and bread crumbs.
I will make bacon mac & cheese for supper and report on it.
Meantime: mow the lawn, weed the flowerbed, deadhead the rosebush and geraniums (it’s about time for them to go) move the sofa in front of the big window, vacuum, change the bed, and clean up the kitchen.
And work on my books. Almost have the succubus story completed.
I see the Religion of Peace continues to spread the faith. I wonder if obamaman will draw another Red Line over the murderopus attack in Kenya. Seems some fellows entered a mall and told the non-Muslims to leave. They then began their form of baptism or proselytizing or something by tossing grenades into people and firing rifles. There was no word on whether any of Baracka’s relatives were involved in the attack.
Ex ph2. I don’t have your addy.
Well, if I’m going to hell anyway, I wish you all to enjoy this little number.
Susan, Jonn has it. If you can’t get it from him this weekend, that’s fine.
Go Notre Dame- beat the heathens!

Haven’t worked with video in awhile, but what it sounds like is that of the choices of “TV format, movie format and time lapse format” only the last relates to the frame rate. The first two are probably for aspect ratio, with TV being 4:3 and Movie being 16:9 and both likely to run at around 30 frames per second. To use an old film analogy, it’s sort of like the difference between 35mm’s 3:2 ratio frame dimension (36mm X 24mm) and 120mm’s 1:1 (6cm X 6cm).
What I’ve found in the past is that the real tricky part of getting video to be viewable by the most people is in the choice of file format and codec. A secondary concern is resolution size, all the 240-1080p stuff or whatever that is likely to be limited by the capability of the camera. A good current choice for uploads seems to be MPEG4 as a file format with H.264 as a codec.
Depending on what camera and editing software is available, it also seems easiest from a work flow perspective to do the editing in whatever native format plays well with both the camera and computer. On a Windows box, for example, using its own WMV format is not a bad choice for the basics but tends to need really large file sizes. Once there’s a finished product, it’s then possible to use a utility to convert it to MPEG4/H.264 for the final upload.
Anyone want to help put together the 20 pieces of furniture that my wife ordered and got delivered
Today?
@ #28-Open Channel D; On behalf of myself and the members of TAH I am extending to you our sincerest condolences and sympathies, sir.
Adding Mr. SJ to that as well.
Did anybody notice there are 30,000 scientists filed a lawsuit against Al Gore for fraud, regarding the inconvenient lies he’s been pedaling re climate change er globull warming er cooling? I’ll have to get over to my FB wall and cross-post it.
Increasingly, environmentalists and politicians have exploited the shoddy global warming hypothesis as a method to take away the rights of the people in a draconian manner, and to tax all of us exorbitantly.
Story here
so the new iOS7 has tons of great new features but i hate the icons. it’s also started raining here in oregon and its only September. boo.
oh! our blog celebrates its first year this coming week! TAH has linked us a bunch and thanks to all of you for visiting Victory Girls Blog a lot. we appreciate it. 🙂
Perry Gaskill, thanks! It’s a Nikon Coolpix 8700, which I bought in 2004 to see if I like digital. I did, and the rest is history. But I get frame shooting rates of 640 (TV) and 320 (Movie), so what I can shoot is limited to the card’s capacity. I’ll have to see what, if anything, I can do with it.
My condolences to ANYONE who has lost a partner, spouse or good friend recently. My visit last week to the Moving Wall drove that home.
Streetsweeper, the rate of global warming has slowed since 1998, which is puzzling atmospheric scientists, although they think the heat is going into the deep ocean. They are also discovering deep ocean currents that they previously did not know existed, and not one of those learned people ever took into account that the Gakkel Ridge formation in the Arctic, which runs under the polar ice cap, has become active and is releasing pillow lava, and it’s been going on since 2006. I think the real problem with the whole global warming/climate change hypothesis lies more in the fact that this is a big planet with an agenda of its own, and we have absolutely NO control over it, period. If we did, there would not be monsoonal rains coming out of the Gulf of Mexico or cooler than average summer temperatures in the Midwest this year, nor would China be facing an unending creeping assimilation of its western parts by the Gobi Desert. We have no control over what happens on this planet, and Al Gore is an idiot.
Oh, yeah, and while I’m at it, the climate in the Sahara can change from desert to green savannah in one generation. Mud cores from the western coast of Africa have shown those rapid changes. The Sahara has a 2000 year cycle that repeats and repeats with no consideration for us puny humans.
Pretty uneventful day for me, the highlight was putting together and posting a satirical article about the mummified Body of a Civil War Veteran being found in a VA Claims waiting room. Seems he had been there since 1930.
The sad thing is a lot of people who read the post thought it was real. I need some of you guys on face book to send me friend requests, if you would like. I’m friends with Hack Stone. If you do a 180 of “Hotel Delta” and see a profile picture of 2 guys having the exact opposite of a good time on a beach thats me.

I signed this: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/end-military-gun-free-zones/JqJFc4Vn , and today I mailed my DA 2028 recommended changes to AR 190-11, which currently prohibits me from carrying on-post, to THE Provost Marshall of the Army.
I’ll be curious to see if I even get a response.
@6 – Yeah, I remember that story. IMO, people will fabricate stories from other people’s experiences so they can “feel good” about themselves. That seems to be a problem in America today. (People have to lie, and not expect to be held accountable.)
OK, so my husband was trying to show me how my little pea-shooter (that I bought all by myself and was very proud of) jams. He handed it to me so I could see it closer, since I’m so blind, and I dropped the damn thing no less than
4 times in a space of about 6 seconds. I am by far more of a danger to myself than anyone else could ever be.
On a totally unrelated note, not at all the same thing. Anyone interested in a .22 semiautomatic Taurus? Hah!
Just – I am not sure if we’re Facebook friends or not and if I’m friends with Hack. I don’t ask any new friends who they are and I never go to other’s profiles. I am friends with Frankie Julie and ExHack, plus a few others but I don’t know their TAH names. I said all that because I’m long winded and to say that I can’t pick up on your “hints” to find you on there. So look for me if you want, Frankie has my pics on his page and I’m in the member’s gallery. ( the mention of the pics is because they’re also my profile picture, not trying to be weird. I just come off that way, a lot!)
@44 I just sent you and frankie a friend request.
valk, check what ammo you are using on the .22. Lots of .22s will jam is you use the short cartridge vice the LR type.
@43, Taurus? lol, no.
anyway, was poking around on APs website and found some relevant articles

#38 Ex-PH2 –
You’re welcome. Big Nikon fan here with a D-200 among others, and I happened to pull Nikon’s doc’s on your Coolpix 8700 to see what’s what. Nice unit. It turns out that the movie mode can record 640 X 480 pixels (TV Movie) for 35 seconds at 30 frames per second, or 320 X 240 (small movie) for around 180 seconds at 15 frames per second. The larger size native file format is Apple’s Quicktime (MOV) which is no big deal to work with directly or convert to something else.
Evidently the time limiter is due to the internal memory buffer and not the capacity of the memory card.
Personally, I would go with the larger size; 35 seconds might not sound like much, but if you get creative with the editing you’ll find it can be plenty to work with as a basic unit. Given the quality of Nikon’s optics, it wouldn’t surprise me if you were able to come up with some really good stuff.
@40Just Plain Jason:
“Jason’s Random Shows on Netflix you should watch… Luther….”
Liked seasons 1-3. A bit of comic-book-noir at times; and hard not to think, “you know, guns really do solve problems.”
Also on Netflix is “Four Lions.” Very … droll.
