Now THAT’S the Fidel we know

| April 22, 2009

President Obama learned why we’ve frozen out Cuba from US relations for the last five decades. On Sunday, Obama sent a message to Raul Castro announcing his plans to lift some aspects of the embargo against the communist nation (McClatchey link);

If Castro wants to start a dialogue with the United States, he should start by releasing political prisoners and lowering the steep fees the Cuban government charges on money sent from abroad, Obama said.

In the meantime, his administration will examine what other steps can be taken toward ending decades of isolation between Washington and the hemisphere’s last communist nation.

So today, Fidel responds (Fox News/AP link);

Fidel Castro said Tuesday that President Barack Obama “misinterpreted” his brother Raul’s sentiments toward the United States and bristled at any suggestion Cuba should free political prisoners or reduce official fees on money sent to the island from the U.S.

How dare the US dictate policies to the Castros? In other words, they have no intention of ever allowing any meaningful measure of freedom. They want to continue with business as usual – stealing the bounty of the labor of everyday Cubans PLUS steal money from their relatives in the US, and they feel no compunction to abide by any deals with the US.

Damn, this is harder than just making campaign promises, isn’t it?

Castro’s workers paradise imprisons & executes political dissidents, opresses gays, has monstrous restrictions on human rights, and hardly ANY Afro-Cubans are in positions of power. Yet the “left” and Holiweird love this guy, it makes my brain hurt.

I think it is funny how many Germans fly to Cuba every year…

So – Obama, with his superior brain and magnetic personality is going to open the doors to Cuba, then convince the Castro Brothers to open the gates of hell and release all the political prisoners, let their subjects keep their money and join the world. That’s what the word was on Sunday.

By Tuesday, Fidel let everyone know he’s not dead yet.

Buried in the middle of the story on Sunday was this really stupid offensive illiterate and insulting statement by our current president:

Obama said he was struck by how many of the leaders at the summit appreciate Cuba’s overseas medical brigades. The United States, he said, doesn’t serve its own interests if its only contact with foreign nations is through military and drug interdictions.

“I think that’s why it’s so important that in our interactions not just here in the hemisphere but around the world, that we recognize that our military power is just one arm of our power, and that we have to use our diplomatic and development aid in more intelligent ways so that people can see very practical, concrete improvements in the lives of ordinary persons as a consequence of U.S. foreign policy.”

Because you know, as in Afghanistan “We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there.” (BHO August 14, 2007)

The US never does anything of a humanitarian nature it seems – all we do is kill civilians and and bomb villages. God – I am sick of this man.

The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.
