Wisconsin Says Stay-At-Home is Invalid
The Wisconsin stay-at-home order has been struck down by WI Supreme Court.
From the newspaper: In a 4-3 decision, the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down the state’s stay at home order, handing a defeat to Democratic Gov. Tony Evers in his administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the governor’s stay-at-home order suspended, Gov. Tony Evers and legislative Republicans will need to work quickly to come up with a replacement plan, otherwise it may be up to individual counties to implement a patchwork of their own COVID-19 regulations.
In its order, the Supreme Court said Evers’ stay at home order is “invalid, and therefore, unenforceable,” so businesses and restaurants presumably may open immediately. The Republican Legislature, which brought the lawsuit against Evers’ health secretary, Andrea Palm, wanted the court to delay its decision from going into effect for 6 days to allow Evers and Republicans to come up with a replacement plan. The court denied that request, with justices saying lawmakers should have had time to produce replacement rules.
A statement on the Tavern League of Wisconsin website posted shortly after the court ruling said bars are allowed to open immediately. The post also encouraged any businesses planning to open to follow safe practice recommendations created by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. – article

The result is that bars and restaurants were open for business yesterday, and things seemed to be back to “normal”, whatever that is. It’s not that I do not take this virus seriously. I certainly do. However, the panic-attack approach could have easily been avoided, and some things that are being ignored is that ventilation systems in heavily occupied buildings may be just as responsible for spreading it as physical contact.

Despite what the news seems to show us, the majority of people in the US are grown ups that don’t like being “taken care of” by big daddy gub’ment. These Pols are figuring out that when their do-gooder plans are no longer just taking care of the “less fortunate” and now are being forced upon us all, people don’t like it. The next several elections will be very interesting.
Lt Gov. Mandela Barnes: It is said that the people are revolting!
Gov. Tony Evers: You said it; they stink on ice.
This will happen in the PDRofMD in exactly never.
Oh, have some patience! Once something is started, it gets the ball rolling. 🙂
I live in the cheesehead state and the gist of why the state Republicans brought about this lawsuit was that Health Services Secretary Andrea Palm (a non-elected official) should have issued regulations through a process known as rulemaking, which gives lawmakers veto power over agency policies.
Without legislative review, “an unelected official could create law applicable to all people during the course of COVID-19 and subject people to imprisonment when they disobeyed her order,” the majority wrote.
Just a extra bit of information, Senate Majority Leader Republican Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau, who brought the lawsuit, is a retired Army LTC.
I know him personally, he’s a good man.
I want to see a trickle down effect occurring in other states, too.
In my county Ex-PH2, with a population of approximately 180,000 we have had 100 positive cases & 1 death.
Out of 72 counties in the state, approximately 36-38 have had no virus deaths.
There are also a hand full of counties that have had no positive cases.
Would lack of a major metropolitan area like Chicago and suburbs, plus commuter rail and buses, possibly have anything to do with those statistics?
I’m sure they do all play a role in the statistics Ex-PH2 as seen in the numbers for Milwaukee, Dane, Kenosha, Racine and Waukesha counties which have higher incident rates in positive cases & deaths.
While I believe we need to remain cautious and protect ourselves individually, I don’t believe a blanket order to cover the whole state is necessary….especially when it comes from a non-elected state official with no input from the state senate members.
Overall I think that the private businesses located here are doing a great job trying to protect their customers & employees.
Grocery stores, big box hardware stores, local business stores that deemed to be essential, restaurants doing curbside/drive-thru.
Most have spit guards up, sanitized carts (and have them ready inside the store), six foot marks on the floor, sinage, limiting amount of customers at one time in the store…Menards even now requires customers to wear face masks along with their employees. Businesses will generally do the right thing to protect themselves or customers.
The small businesses will have a chance to continue to stay in business if it least it pays the bills.
I just believe that there is far too much government overreach & reaction.
Sure, you will have idiots (IMHO) thathave get togethers with 35-100 people with no protection (in all honesty,I don’t know the proper way of handling that situation).
But to limit or rule by law that you can’t have a family member or two come to your house for a meal or visit? That is overreach.
I’m not a fan by any means of Evers (I voted for Walker), but I think he has done a somewhat decent job with this situation. However, this blanket shut down order is wrong & he needs to work more across party lines.
Looking at the numbers and locations, the “cluster” of sick and/or deceased in Illinois is in the northeast corner, near Chicago. There are towns 1.5 hours from Chicago that have absolutely nothing going on.
I get that this is a dangerous and insidious bug, and the IL governor’s response was far less ham-handed than it has been in other states, but to shut down businesses when there are alternatives is ridiculous.
We can agree that this ChineseCommunist Originated Virus Infecting Disease of 2019 (COVID19) is a nasty bug that, like other nasty bugs, can kill people. I think we can agree, too, that we need to open up our Country to trade and commerce, putting people back to work, with a positive cash and tax revenue flow. I would like to think that some of this is now more about control of the people v control of the spread of the disease.
Well, of course it is, 5th/77th, which is the reason the politicians want to throw gold coins (stimulus checks) at you. The more money they can throw at you, the more likely you are to buy a 50″ TV and stay indoors and not whine.
Thought you knew that!
It does not mean you shouldn’t go boar-hunting with a pack of trained dogs and a double-barreled cannon loaded for boar. Nothing better than whole hog roasted on a spit over an open fire, eh? Try the stuffed meatloaf and green beans with almonds, and a good helping of cornbread with butter. You’ll feel a whole lot better.
Did I tell you I also cook?
Eggsxactly Mi’Lady and the point we have been trying to make for the last few weeks. Odd how several millions of people that work for WalMart, K Roger, Home Depot, Amazon, ect that come in contact with thousands of others on a daily basis haven’t had any major outbreaks, but the major meat packing plants have? I’m lucky here, in that there are butchers and good ol’ boys within 5 miles of me that will sell me any quantity of beef, pork, and chicken, wrapped for freezing, at a very competitive price. If I’m able to make my trip out west next month, I intend to bring back, packed on dry ice, a goodly quantity of heavy western grain fed beef beast. I had considered driving my skateboard Nismo for fuel economy, but that Ford Flex will haul a heap more.
Some folks here and in other locations thought I was full of it with my conspiracy theory on all of this. As more and more info is brought to light, many are seeing what we were talking about. And I honestly don’t think that pumping more and more taxpayer dollars into the hands of the FSA is the way to go. My grandchildren will be repaying all of this and, ironically, due to the combined income of their parents, neither are seeing a stimulus check.
And yessum, I know you can cook. I still have plenty of ice cream, but I am critically low on cookies. And btw, the FIRST of the Georgia Peaches will start shipping out Saturday. Pie? Cobbler? Homemade Peach Ice Cream?
Yes to all three. What’s the point in choosing one of whatever? Life is short. Enjoy it.
“Did I tell you I also cook?”
(Waiting for someone to say to Ex-PH2:
“make me a sammich”). (grin)
Brother Sky, I’m just crazy…not stoopid…and there IS a difference. Sandpaper a wildcat’s azz in a telephone booth? I’m your man! Say that to The Lioness? Oh hells to the nah.
Yeah, get off your bumpy ass and fix your own damn sammich! The stuff’s in the fridge. And that kitchen had better be clean as a whistle when you’re done messing about in there….
Meanwhile the Dictator (*OOPS*, Governor) of the PRoCalifornia has stated that his strangulation of life and business will continue until August.
Bring on the RECALL!!!
Its never been a problem here in Florida. We dodged the bullet named Andrew Gillum when elected Ron DeSantis. Hillsborogh County (Tampa) had a curfew, but they ended it after 2 days.
Ran across this earlier from Baby Sister. It pretty much tells a synopsis of what this is all about.

Can’t get a haircut yet here in Washington but the state had 3 of the 29 federally recognized tribes open their casinos on Thursday. One ended up with a 4 mile backup approaching their parking lot. Locally the Puyallup tribe is going to open their 3 casinos this weekend.
Possibly, our benevolent Governor Jay “Climate Change” Inslee, and former 2020 Presidential Candidate with 1% support, says hair care establishments may be allowed to open June 1.
Edit… opening the casinos did not require the blessing of Inslee but he did wish them good luck.
