T-54 Grocery-Getter For Sale
T-54 MBT
Tired of inconsiderate drivers, long lights, traffic jams? Here’s just the thing. Your very own Iconic Cold War item, a T54 Main Battle Tank! All OEM parts, including four machine guns.
From the article:
The T-54 is the most massively produced tank in history. Together with its counterpart which was adapted to protect the tank and its crew against radiation, biological and chemical weapons, it reached a staggering number of produced units ? 100,000 tanks. This was in the Soviet Union alone.
During WWII, the Soviet Union relied on the combination of firepower and speed given by the T-34 tank. By the end of the war, several prototypes were already in development, as the USSR was looking to retire the T-34, and take its medium tank arsenal to the next level.
Thus, the T-54 was born. The tank’s official predecessor was the T-44, which used a 100 mm rifled gun, opposed to the T-34’s 76 mm gun. After making several other modifications, the T-54 was officially put into service as early as 1949, with its improved T-55 version entering service in 1961.
The armor specifications of the serial T-54A and T-54B models were ? 120 mm front, 80 mm on the sides, 30 mm on the roof and 20 mm on the bottom. These models were the ones put into massive production. The difference between the two was that the B model was fitted with the STP-2 “Tsyklon” 2-plane stabilizer.
It utilized a cutting-edge technology of the time, providing enough safety and firepower for its four-man crew, to raise concerns on the other side of the Iron Curtain.
Its very existence affected both British and American tank designs, and is still in use to this day. Sadly, if you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it. To contact the seller, read the article here: War History

Figure it’s probably wrong, but I WANT ONE! Well, yeah, I would prefer a US tank, but for the right price from the right seller…
(No, I didn’t check the price because pipe dreams are priceless.)
OWB, the linky for the price went to a 500 error, we’ll have to check back later when an admin roams by and fixes that. I agree, be nice to have in my garage, but a nice low milage Brad would be more practical for grocery runs. More room where the dismounts would normally be to stack up the special hoarding buys we could make. The 25mm chain gun would handle most threats and we could always fall back on the TOWs to help break up the traffic jams. The twin 55 gallon fuel drums on the back are a nice accessory, so there is that.
Or we could look around and maybe get a deal on a T-72 with low tube round hours/counts? Usually in the Artillery, we called Armor…puts on shades…Targets.
I’ll have to pass on the tank – not because I can’t afford it but because of the age induced difficulty in mounting and dismounting the thing. Yes, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Also, will defer to your judgement about which vehicles are more practical for private ownership. My familiarity runs more to aircraft, altho there was that time I had to figure out how to get a tank loaded on a C-130.
C-130? Snide Gun Bunny P-3 wing comment in 5, 4, 3, …
AHEM… Couldn’t find a pic of an abominated C130 doing this! just saying…
What kept you?
Because you can doesn’t mean you should. Crazy MF’ers. Not with AW1Ed onboard.
I got to tracking like that puppy on a leash. Was hunting for a P3 Orion carrier set down, wanted to make sure I couldn’t find one. As Unka Davy used to say, “Be sure you’re right, then go ahead.” Then I ran into a longer C130 vid with multi, heavier landings, but they didn’t show as well as this one. Still had to watch it tho. Then a Yuengling called my name.
Give me a Patton series or an old M41 Walker Bulldog. Those Cold War tanks just look the way tanks are supposed to look!
I’ve owned a small bulldozer for about 30 years
and won’t deny that I have occassionally gone all
Walter Mitty when no one was looking.
John Wayne as a Seabee raising his dozer blade as a bullet shield…
Patrick Wayne doing pretty much the same thing at Camp Two-Niner Savoy in Fort Benning version of Northern I Corps, Viet of the Nam…
I once retrieved a downed C-130 from a
swamp using just the winch. The crew thanked me when I invited them inside
for a few beers.
It’s kind of a shame that it doesn’t come in a kit, isn’t it?
Back in the days when I was stationed in Hawaii, there was a T-54 on display at Schofield Barracks. One look at its low-slung dimensions and you understand why Warsaw Pact T-54/55 crewmen had to be 5’5” or shorter…
Wonder if this particular unit crushed some poor Hungarian protester under its treads back in 1956…

The T-54/55 also has the distinction of being the most “combat tested” tank in history. T-54/55 tanks have been in every military engagement that involved tanks since the mid 1950’s and some are still in use today.
The Israeli’s even refitted some T-55’s with US or German 105mm cannons and used them for a while.
Do they take Visa cards?? I Tank you for the nice article on the Tank.
The Spirit is willing, but my checkbook is weak.
I actually think this is one of my favorite tech tree tanks in WoT console.
I witnessed a T-54/55 start-up at Fort Hood’s Red Thrust motor pool. Lots of clattering as the engine turned over, more than usual in any other diesel, clatter and more clatter, then an unanticipated smoke screen from the exhaust as the engine clattered into life, clattering continuing until engine shutoff. Up close, all the Soviet vehicles were rough. But they worked. I would accept a T-54, even though local rules prohibit parking on the street. “Excuse me, Sir, but you need to move your tank.”
Response: “or what? You’ll have it towed?” 😀
Unless Bubba’s Auto Recovery shop has an M-88 available that’s not happening.
I wouldn’t be surprised if one of our local towing outfits did. Those tow truck guys are amazingly resourceful.
Those recovery vehicles for big-rigs can tow a fully loaded tractor-trailer combo.
A little thing like a T-55 isn’t going to faze it, once they figure out how to hook up.
That’s if they are brave enough to tangle with a fully armed T-55 with a couple of machine guns bristling and some guy or gal in a WWII Tanker helmet at the trigger !!!
Somehow, I could just see our very own Ex-PH2 on one of those…
And I would warn the tow trucker that she is not one to be trifled with…
That is a sure recipe for certain doom !!!
DOOMED I SAY !!!!
