A Blast from the Past, Rarities Edition – Part 3
Hendrix’s cover of Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” is today considered the definitive version. Dylan himself was apparently floored by Hendrix’s version, and now reputedly uses the Hendrix arrangement himself in concert.
Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower” has been covered by many other artists. But the best I can tell, Eric Clapton has never released a cover version of the tune. I’m sure many of his fans wish he had.
But Clapton was recorded playing the tune in concert at least once, with Lenny Kravitz on vocals. So if you’d ever wondered how a Clapton cover might have sounded . . . here ya go. Enjoy.

One of the McGuffins in the Battlestar Galactica remake was this song was the key to unlocking the Final Five Cylons memories and help Starbuck find Earth, as many times as they played it with their weird space-arrangement, save the final time when it flat out broke into the real song, I could never actually make out the song save the words they would mumble.
How cool is it to have your tune used as a hyperdrive transit code….
Geek level: 4000 Quatloos
Clapton been The Man since before Derick and The Dominos. Only thing wrong with that video was the shot of BJ Willy, dasHitlerbeast, and that other Skrunt right at the end in the crowd.
I didn’t make Woodstock, but I was at what they called the Atlanta Pop Festival that was held at the Byron Racetrack in Byron Peach County Georgia summer of ’70. Jimmy and a whole bunch of others were rocking the house. 90% of the attendees and musicians at that gig stopped at our chicken house for a bucket to go. I loaded up the saddlebags of my ’53 Harley with some KRC that Friday afternoon and got to the site just in time to help crash the gates. Swapped chicken for all types of recreation. Didn’t show back up at the house or to work til Monday. Good times!
Tanks Hondo. Jimmy did what everybody else did…left handed.
Uh… Jimi.
Auto corrupt kicked in just when I hit the post button. Fecal matter occurs.

Great video, Hondo. Right up until the end, as GB pointed out.

Possible repost since my first post was filtered because of an email typo.
Heh. I approved the typo, saw you already commented, and deleted it.
So we’re even. Or something.
Sh!t, I bet you liked Pat Boone’s heavy metal cover album, too. (smile)
FWIW: I’m not kidding about the Boone album’s existence. The Youtube playlist for most of the album can be found here.
Gotta love his version of “crazy train”!
Um . . . no, you don’t. (smile)
