Bill Introduced to Close Loopholes Exploited by Chinese Propaganda Efforts
During one of the press conferences, a reporter associated with Phoenix TV raved China’s humanitarian efforts addressing the coronavirus. President Trump responded that it seemed like she was giving a statement rather than asking a question.
Then, President Trump asked her who she was reporting for. He appeared to suspect that she was pushing propaganda and she was working for a station with connections to the Chinese government. It turned out that this was the case.
Senator Ted Cruz is pushing legislation that would make it hard for Phoenix TV, and others, to exploit loopholes by purchasing stations broadcasting into the US from Mexico or Canada… Then changing the language.
From the Free Beacon:
“China should not be able to set up shop in Mexico and blanket America with propaganda. Every year, the [Chinese Communist Party] spends billions of dollars purchasing news outlets and waging information warfare to extend the reach of its propaganda and whitewash the unflattering and politically inconvenient truths about its totalitarian regime,” Cruz told the Free Beacon.
“We are seeing this play out right now as news outlets across the country parrot Chinese talking points about the coronavirus pandemic–a pandemic that could have been prevented,” Cruz said. “I look forward to introducing this legislation when Congress returns and closing FCC loopholes that allow China to wage their information warfare from across the border in Mexico.”
Phoenix TV has been exploiting an FCC loophole that permits content produced in the United States to be broadcast back into the United States by radio towers more powerful than those located within the country. Phoenix TV, which is headquartered in California, produces its content domestically and then uses the powerful Mexican station to ensure it reaches American ears in California.
Cruz’s bill would ban the FCC from granting licenses for broadcasts from across the Mexican border when the new owners seek to change the language of the station they are purchasing–unless the FCC can guarantee they were free from foreign government influence.

The Communist Chinese Government will lie, cheat, steal, and do anything/everything in their power to destroy us. They are hell bent on doing that. They have been steadily buying up our industries, politicians, real estate, and now…our airwaves. Our technology? They just steal that.
Chicoms are always up to no good and thinking ahead.
This bill is a step in the right direction. One wonders what Pelosi will hang on it before she’ll sign.
Probably more money for NPR.
And abortions.
It’s obvious that Malig-Nancy will never do anything for anyone unless she gets a kickback in one way or another.
She’s big on this mandatory voter fraud scheme as of late.
I remember when the Chinese bought that radio station in Mexico and announced they would broadcast to Chinese ex-pats in the US.
My first thought was “How do you say “John has a long mustache” in Chinese?
Yup:
No surprise. Some folks noticed back in the mid 70’s that the Chinese were buying up large tracts of real estate in what might be considered strategic locations (along interstate highways in major cities, for instance). At the time, Canadians were brokering most of the deals. This was happening all over the country and continued over the decades.
China is also a big player in the HF (shortwave)
broadcast business. We are at the bottom of the solar
cycle (it’s a deep one) so worldwide propaganda
is not possible from their location.
But just wait a couple more years when the sunspots
return, peaking six years from now and they will
flood the international broadcast band with their
propaganda. The US is not a shortwave listener but
the rest of the world is.
Why are we allowing the ChiCom government to topurchasae anything in the US, especially media outlets?
Likely because they’re experts in bribing pols of both parties as well as the right bureaucrats.
Ain’t that the truth. Practice makes perfect, don’t it?
It’s even worse in Australia from what I’ve read. They’re practically selling the whole country piece by piece to the Chinese.

They also own the Margarita Island Port, the largest port on the Panama Canal. The Peanut Farmer is responsible for this.
COSCO (China Overseas Shipping Co, I believe) owns BOTH ends of the Canal’s operations.
He learned it from Nixon and his “detente”.
Tricky Dick started it.
Random coronavirus thought…. how many trillions would it cost to buy emergency coronavirus medical coverage for the uninsured?
I don’t give a shit about the Kennedy Center, Illinois’ retirement plan, or what mileage planes get. I do care that as our econo,y reopens from this BS lockdown, many of the folks who are at most risk for catching Covid are the very ones who have no insurance and no paid time off. Just wondering…
IIRC, anyone without insurance who developed COVID-19 would have their tabs picked up by Medicare/Medicaid.
No mention of lost income, although lots of private companies (including mine) were covering lost income as well.
The comments, “The Chinese aren’t communists,” or, “It’s not propaganda!” are sure to be uttered by our resident dipshit any time now.
He’s certainly thinking them.
F*ck da PRC. Commie bastards.
In the 1970s, the PRC was allowed to join the UN and other international organizations, and the Free Chinese on Taiwan were ejected from these same institutions and ostracized. Since then, the Free Chinese and the chicoms have been engaged in a struggle for influence around the world.
This plays out most starkly in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia of the Third World, where the Free Chinese and the chicoms compete for influence through development and economic aid, agricultural programs, and technical assistance. As one can imagine, the Taiwan Chinese usually come out on the short end of these competitions, as the chicoms always have more money, resources, and manpower to throw into these struggles than the Taiwan Chinese have available.
Now, with the chicom flu wreaking havoc and vandalizing the world economy, it is high time for the USA to both overtly and covertly fund and support the Free Chinese Taiwan effort to wrest away influence from the chicoms in the Third World. Many Third World countries are leery of American influence, but are receptive to approaches from a country like Taiwan now that the chicoms have been exposed as assholes. The Taiwan Chinese can use all the funding it can get to fight this long term struggle; the USA by hook and crook needs to support this struggle, either by direct funding, covert aid, or through grants by non profit organizations. However we do it, we must support the Free Chinese in their long-term international struggle against the chicoms. Is anyone in Washington listening?
