New Haven man accused of setting mattress on fire

Story by Jareliz Diaz
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Haven man was charged with arson after he allegedly set a mattress on fire Thursday, according to city police.

Police said it happened around 10:19 p.m. at Liberty Safe Haven in the area of State Street. Police said a mattress was set on fire in an apartment on the fourth floor.

As a result, the unit suffered fire damage, and several other units had water damage, police said.

Police said they worked with building staff and determined the fire was allegedly “intentionally” set by 45-year-old Doel Tirado, who lived in the apartment. They located him without incident.

Tirado was charged with first-degree arson and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He also had two outstanding arrest warrants for violating probation and second-degree failure to appear.

He’s being held on combined bonds totaling $65,500.

The pic explains much.

In our inner cities, where firearms are outlawed, only outlaws are armed. When our “philosopher kings” sit back and do nothing, this is the tyranny and terror of “gun control.”

Seecamps are good. Saved my ass with a LWS-25. Thanks Pop.

Tell us more; the suspense is killing me.

I’m no professional gun writer, but the linked article on the Seecamp starts with “Born too late to fully capitalize on the pocket pistol craze…”

I’d beg to differ. Sure, the pocket pistol dates back to the dawn of the 20th Century, with the Colt 1903 and other smaller pistols chambered for ACP rounds (.25, .32, .380) we Americans consider far inferior to our own venerable .45. But from what I recall in my earlier days of gun-learing as a budding collector and carrier of small arms, the Seecamp helped spark a new era of pocket pistols. Call them mouse guns if you want, but the super subcompact pistol market upped its game 30-40 years ago with Seecamp at the forefront. I was too broke back then and I’m too cheap nowadays to spend the money on an LWS, but the Kel-Tec P32 I used to always carry and the Ruger LCP Max I haven’t carried for the past year or so probably wouldn’t be around without Seecamp proving that tiny guns in “puny” chamberings could be viable for self-defense.

Definitely a far cry from Raven Arms and other “Ring of Fire” manufacturers that mass-produced mouse guns back then. As a side note, here’s a period article on those companies: frontline: hot guns: RING OF FIRE / Companies and What They Make | PBS

Seecamps are definitely of the “steel slab” era. -Solid- guns.

The LWS-25 (.25ACP) was a strong effort at “smallest practical” pistol. They work. They are small and hide well.

Since few are ever satisfied with a .25, the LWS-32 in .32ACP brought a better round in essentially the same frame. To do this required the manual mandating Winchester Silvertips, which were short enough to fit. This has downsides. Try finding WST today. LOL! Winchester whitebox FMJ TC “fit”. They ain’t WST.

Eventually, the issues with the LWS-32 ammo, and the usual suspects, drove the spawn of LWS in .380ACP. All that heavy steel helps with the snappy ammo.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch….

KelTec came up with their -locked breech- and plastic frame P-32 and P-3AT. (Guess the calibers…) These are much lighter and flatter. They are surprisingly soft shooters compared to other pocket guns that are blowback.

Seecamp didn’t bother with sights. KelTec does minimal ones.

Both -work-.

Both are trivial to conceal.

No excuses! Carry a gun.
