Carjacking suspect stabs off-duty SFPD officer, steals patrol car
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – An off-duty San Francisco police officer attempted to intervene in a carjacking early Sunday morning, shooting the suspect and getting stabbed in return.
South San Francisco police were alerted to a fight at the Chevron gas station at 110 Hickey Blvd shortly after 5:30 a.m. Sunday. One of the two men fighting had just stabbed the other during a failed carjacking attempt.
Arriving officers tried to apprehend the suspect, who had already been shot, using an electric Taser stun gun which had no effect.
The suspect then stole a South San Francisco police vehicle and fled the scene.
The pursuit took officers to the Kaiser Permanente parking garage on Hickey Blvd in Daly City where the man attempted to drive through the gates in the stolen police car.
The suspect then rammed one of the police vehicles pursuing him, exited the vehicle and confronted officers with a knife.

Strange hand cannon. The active rnd is in the
bottom of the cylinder. Maybe less muzzle rise?
It’s an ugly piece for sure.
Indeed-its rather Glock-like in how low the bore axis is to the hand. I likely wouldn’t buy one myself, but I like attempts at innovation.
Fun to ride, but you do not want anyone to see you on it?
At least you don’t have to chew off your arm to escape.
That’s part of it. According to the article AW1Ed linked, it also changes the recoil significantly – into the hand vice opposed by the arms/shoulders.
For someone used to a ‘normal’ revolver, it is odd to shoot. Recoil is a bit more into the hand and it has less muzzle flip. If you have less than a full cylinder you have to remember to index your first round at 4 o’clock, not up top. No external hammer; what you see is a cocking lever – pull it to the rear until you feel the internal hammer cock lke normal, but then that external lever rolls forward to its rest position – most disconcerting, like it is trying to fire! But there is a little red “cocked” indicator which pops up. Oh, and it has an external safety. Overall an interesting gun I would not buy at $300… and it sells for $1000 MORE than that. No thanks.
Talk about go big or go home?
Just as teh stoopids are warned not to take a knife to a gunfight, thus we warned about the gun pr0n. Save yourselves boys, it’s too late for some of us. Fuuuuuuugly!
That’s some Dirty Harry shit.
Nah – IMO this is more Dirty Harry’s style:
If you though the Chiappa Rhino was ugly – think again. The picture’s a modern version of the pistol that inspired the Rhino: the Mateba 6. (smile)
They both remind me of any of the HP Lovecraft stories of The Great Old Ones and the Elder Gods, where he describes the geometry of their buildings as “strange” and “somehow wrong”.
Had to look it up.
From Wiki:
Thing is a semi-auto, and chambered in 454 Casull.
Depending on the precise model, they are/were also reputedly chambered in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum.
I have the short version and it is soft to shoot even with my arthritic wrists but i prefer the Ruger LCR in .357 for CCW or any occasion as it’s even softer to shoot and more so if you load down.
The 1911 Ruger Light weight Commander for the win in 45ACP even though my wrist can’t handle more than 6 mags and then it’s the back up LCR time.
“…….even though my wrist can’t handle more than 6 mags……..”

If you’re in that much of a gun battle, you’d best be using the first few magazines worth to get to your battle rifle.
So sayeth Col Cooper.
