One candle lights multiple candles. These candles, in turn, lights additional candles. This is a basic concept of “spreading wisdom”. (thisischurch.com)

February 2 is seen by some Christians as the 40th day “of” Christmas, known as Candlemas. This was the time that Jesus was presented to the temple. Outside of church practices, most Americans know it as “Groundhog’s Day”. On a sarcastic note… Be prepared for “protests” if the groundhog does not decide in favor of some people’s preferred outcome. Enjoy your weekend.

Man, the King of Battle doesn’t flinch much, does he? Steady eye, finger on the trigger, gentle squeeze, and BANG! He’s first once again. Congrats, my man! And in order to be able to finish out the week’s work at the office, I hereby offer up another in the seemingly endless supply of trivia columns. (At least I hope they’re endless. When they end, I’m out of a job.) DID YOU KNOW…? How do the Disney movie, “The Little Mermaid,” and its original tale differ? By Commissioner Wretched The Super Bowl is this Sunday. I am probably one of eight people in the world who couldn’t care less. It’s not that I don’t like the Super Bowl, mark you … the setting for the championship game of the NFL is a spectacle on par with the World Series in baseball, or Wimbledon in tennis, or the Indianapolis 500 in auto racing. It’s a huge thing. It’s just that I don’t really care about football. But I do love trivia, and here is one little tidbit about the upcoming Super Bowl that you may not know – the game is the 54th professional football championship, but it’s only the 50th NFL championship game. The first four – in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970 – saw the champions of the old American Football League, the AFL, taking on the NFL champs for the ultimate title. After that game, the AFL and NFL combined to form one mighty football league. That first game wasn’t even officially called the Super Bowl – it was retroactively named that in 1969, when the game was officially named. Now, let’s kick off some other trivia for the week! Call the coin toss … Did you know … … a sloth can hold its breath for up to 40 minutes? By comparison, a dolphin – an animal that routinely has to hold its breath – can only do so for about 10 minutes. (See? Sloths even breathe slowly.) … Windsor Castle in England is not named after the British royal family? Until 1917, the current royal family name… Read more »

Join the club. When it was about football, I enjoyed it. Now it’s gone ’round the bend, turning into a boring, repetitive jamboree with football as a side dish.

I’m in. Eff the National Felon League. Buncha overgrown, underworked, overpaid crybabies. There are some bowls I like. The Puppy Bowl, The Kitty Bowl, a Bowl full of cheese grits mixed with scrambled eggs and crumbled up bacon or sausages.

My exercise program used to include Crunches…Captain in the morning and Nestles in the afternoon.

Roh-Dog

Bingo. If I want to watch dudes with concussions doing astonishing feats there’s always plenty of Vet-created content on touyube to view.
Thinking it may be Bowl of Roh-Dog’s Patented Beef Stew time! (The secret ingredient is lard, because fear of heart attacks are for the fainthearted!)

Graybeard

A bowl full of grits with ham keeps Mrs. GB happy with me.

We freeze the leftovers of the Christmas ham, and I cut them up into the grits water. I used to add shredded cheese, but one of her meds messes with her intestinal tract making cheese inadvisable.

Dip out hot and add a big ol’ pat of butter and a Texas Ruby grapefruit and Son! she’s happy. And when Momma is happy….

Only reason I know it’s coming is that our church had to move choir practice up so folks could go watch the commercials.

My Man! If you were trying to get a “rise” out of me…it worked! My Lady Friend sends her Thanks!

War Story Alert! TINS. There I was at the 125th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Had a little hand in helping set up the gun line depicting the Artillery Bombardment prior to Pickett’s Charge. 50% scale in that we set up 75 pieces hub to hub. Had a “front row” seat of the gun line as they opened up. Stepped off with the Virginians as part of Armistead’s Brigade for the Infantry Assault. Henry Hunt’s guns tore us a new one as we approached the wall. It is amazing that anybody survived during the original fight. Worse than Malvern Hill or Fredericksburg.

rgr769

My son did the Pickett’s charge in the 130th anniversary Gettysburg re-enactment. I had to stay home, as I had a jury trial that unexpectedly lasted for six weeks.

Viet Squatch? Interesting.

When it comes to this kind of thing, I’m on the fence. I won’t believe it’s real until somebody brings in a live one or at least a fresh carcass. But I won’t believe it’s not real, either. So far, there’s no conclusive evidence either way. It seems unlikely that many famous cryptids could stay hidden today, but you never know. *Something* legitimately scared the shit out of those folks at Boggy Creek in Fouke, AR back in the 70s, though I don’t discount the possibility of alcohol combined with angry neighbors.

rgr769

We all heard about “rock apes” over in the RVN, but we believed they were some primate or monkey that would sometimes throw rocks at us. I never heard they were six feet tall and vicious. I call bunk on this giant ape story.

It’s not John Jameson’s fault that you’re feeling the pain. Like I always used to say, it’s one drink that gets me in trouble. I just can’t remember if it’s the 11th or the 12th!

Unfortunately my consumption rate was girlfriend induced. She had a hollow leg last nite so I was taking one for the team by trying to keep her out of my drink after she finished hers.

That’s gonna leave a mark. Hope The Pappy gots him some aloe. Gives a whole new meaning to the term “Feel the Burn!” He and the XO may have to have another Yuengling or 3 just to cool it off.

I was just messin’, FA. As punishment I had to work in S1 for a few months. I joined the Army to be an Infantryman to get out of an accounting office.

The corona virus is spreading rapidly, but those infected are NOT showing signs of it for about 10 days. May have something to do with the virus’s RNA being slow to invade a cell and latch onto its mitochondria. You’re infected AND infectious, but you don’t know it until you feel sick.

So WaPo has this to offer: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/coronavirus-china-live-updates/2020/01/31/eeac61b6-442b-11ea-b503-2b077c436617_story.html

It is now in the UK and Russia, one confirmed case each, two (wife and later, husband) in the Chicago area (both in isolation), and major airlines are shutting down travel to China.

Nothing to worry about here, folks, move along. It ain’t Stephen King’s “The Stand”. That was a hyped-up flu virus that escaped the lab in the Rocky Mountains. But these bugs are the reason I go to the store at a time of day when most people are at work.

Roh-Dog

Add to that:
-almost 60 million people under quarantine in China
-a very high transmissibility factor
-a 2-3% lethality rate (presumptively, data is coming out of China, so…)
-its a novel virus so no genetic immunity
The worst unknown-unknown here, IMHO, is how it will effect those of European descent. Coronas ain’t rare, but this bastard has my antennas up.
No need to freak out, but as always I HIGHLY suggest having the supplies and ability to hole-up for a month, minimum!

Roh-Dog

50mg of C twice a day is plenty and highly recommended, if you want another boost to the immune system and mood? Try D3! I’ve been on it a week and my ‘winter blues’ have f*cked right off!

Graybeard

Three school districts in the East Texas region have shut down entirely for a week or so because of this flu. That concerns me, at this point, more than the coronavirus.

Boomer out in Guam (he of Sunday fame) just sent me a bit of pithy wisdom I want to share:

When a Republican is president, the media all want to be Bob Woodward (he of Watergate fame).

When a Democrat is president, they all want to be Monica Lewinsky…

Dennis - not chevy

I was talking with one of my young relatives which can be a task as she’s a true minion of Trudeau. She was harping on about semi-automatic weapons. I asked her to define her terms and compare and contrast semi-automatic with automatic weapons. She admitted she had no idea; she defended herself by asking if I would ever use a semi-automatic weapon. I said I would use a semi-automatic when a bolt action weapon wouldn’t be applicable. That ended the discussion; I had no answer for, “A what?”

Poetrooper

But..but…but, you can bet she’s absolutely, for damned sure, and positively certain, there is a dire and immediate need for gun control.

Aaaagh, liberals…

Well, just found out who hired the treasonous Vindman twins for the NSC; it was none other than John Bolton. That says quite a bit about Bolton and his vetting process, if there even was one. I would love there to be litigation where all these assholes in the conspiracy that started this fake impeachment were deposed. That is the only way we will ever know who did what when. Though, until they are given immunity, most of them would likely assert the 5A and refuse to answer.

What makes you think they would tell the truth under oath? Just because you or I would is no indication that any of those lying, self-absorbed, delusional fools would consider violating their world view (mostly opinion anyway) by being truthful even under oath. All that bunch has already proven that they will continue to lie even when it is easier to tell the truth.

The up side is that they seem to be overplaying it just a bit, the megawatt drama queens.

You also don’t have a trial if you don’t have legitimate charges, Chuck.

Hondo

“He will not be acquitted. You cannot be acquitted if you don’t have a trial . . . .”

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy . . . sure you can. It’s called a directed verdict.

While a directed verdict normally occurs after at least one side presents its case, it can be declared at any time. One example might be when the prosecution fails to specify a prosecutable act in its indictment.

rgr769

Or a motion for non-suit. Motion for directed verdict is usually made after all the evidence is in at the end of the trial before the jury is instructed.

David

Reminds me of Phil Ochs bitching about the ’68 election…seems to be a long-standing habit of the left.

Best response ever to a directed verdict was Brendan Behan’s: “I was charged in absentia, tried in absentia, and convicted in absentia. I told them they could carry out the execution in absentia.”

11B-Mailclerk

She can refuse to accept reality.

She can’t refuse the consequences of refusing to accept reality.

What is that crazy twit going to do? Resubmit the same Articles to the Senate?

OWB

Why would anyone expect them to accept the results of the trial? The trial is a result of them getting their panties in a bunch and throwing a 3 year temper tantrum when they would not accept the results of the 2016 election.

11B-Mailclerk

And they are teeing-up much greater tantrums for when Trump schlongs them -bigly- in the Electoral College again.

“Sunday’s Date Is Written the Same Backward and Forward — For Everyone In the World — Which Hasn’t Happened in 900 Years”

https://disrn.com/news/sundays-date-is-the-same-backwards-and-forwards-for-everyone-in-the-entire-world

“Sunday, February 2, marks a unique calendar date, as it forms a palindromic day — one that is written the same both backward and forward.”

“But this Sunday is more special than post palindromic days.”

“In this case, the date rendered as it normally is in the United States — as month/day/year — is identical read both normally and reversed: 02/02/2020.”

“However, in the numerous countries that follow a day/month/year format, the date is still the same either way. And in the many Asian countries that place the year first, it is still identical backward and forward.”

“So, whether you’re in Europe, Asia, or the U.S., February the 2nd is a very special palindromic day. And extremely rare:”

“The previous eight-digit palindrome like this was 909 years ago, on November 11, 1111.”

“The next one will be December 12, 2121, 101 years from now.”

“After that it’ll be another 909 years until the next eight-digit palindrome, on March 3, 3030.”

“After the 3030 palindrome, people will have to wait another 1,010 years, until April 4, 4040, to be treated to the rare occasion again.”

“The Department of Defense has determined that restrictions imposed on American forces by the Obama administration’s policy could place them at a severe disadvantage during a conflict against our adversaries. The president is unwilling to accept this risk to our troops,” the White House said in a statement.”

“The policy was changed to meet the demands of the National Defense Strategy, which has refocused the military on the challenges of near-peer adversaries such as China and Russia and away from counterterrorism operations.”

“The change would authorize only combatant commanders in “exceptional circumstances” – without specifying what those circumstances could be — to use “advanced, non-persistent landmines” that are designed to reduced unintended harm to civilians and allies. https://www.stripes.com/news/soldier-serving-life-sentence-for-killing-afghan-civilians-and-keeping-body-parts-appeals-conviction-1.617051

“A former Army staff sergeant sentenced to life in prison for intentionally killing Afghan civilians and keeping their body parts as trophies has filed suit in federal court to have his convictions overturned.”

“Lawyers for Calvin Gibbs, 35, argued that his original counsel failed to present testimony that disputed his role in the killings of three people in 2010, and that his right to a fair trial had been violated.”

“The lawsuit is seeking the first civilian review of the case. All previous proceedings were held in military courts.”

“Gibbs is often referred to as the mastermind of the “kill team,” a group of American soldiers said to have orchestrated the premeditated murders of an unarmed 15-year-old boy and at least two other civilians during their deployment to southern Kandahar province a decade ago.”

“The soldiers from the 1st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, attracted international attention after photos surfaced showing them posing with Afghan corpses.”

(Yes, he is related to THAT Visconi…you all know who I am talking about….*grin*)

Air Force Colonel Pleads Guilty to Child Porno Charges:

https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=91744

Well, guess what?

He got sentenced today to 5 Years in Prison, 15 Years of Supervised Release, Order to Pay Restitution to the Identified Victim and ordered to complete 50 hours of community service by speaking or writing about his experience and conviction.

In an email, Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said that Visconi currently is still a colonel in the Air Force. But now that his sentencing is complete, the Air Force will start the process to remove him from service, she said. If approved, she said, this will mean Visconi will not be able to apply for retirement or receive any other benefit for honorable service.

5 years? That’s it? Man, that’s just wrong. The only consolation is that the dirtbag won’t collect retirement and his wife will divorce his pervert ass if she hasn’t already. Yep, 20+ years of service down the drain. Fuck you, Visconi and your shitbag of an uncle too!

I do believe what you wished on this POS is gonna happen to him Pappy. He likes kiddie pr0n? Wonder how he’s gonna like being the “new Kid” on the cell block? And, no, 5 years ain’t near enough time for this crap. He ought to get 5 years for just being stupid enough to try and get innerwebz kiddie pr0n. Plus another 100 years for taking the pictures. Sick mofo!

What Do You All Think? In August 2019, more than a dozen Hampton Roads, Virginia Veterans and their Families filed a $500 Million lawsuit claiming the Department of Veteran Affairs is denying benefits. “Hampton Roads Vets File $500 Million Lawsuit Against VA” https://www.wavy.com/news/military/special-report-heroes-left-behind/ What is interesting is that some of the Vets who filed the lawsuit had Other Than Honorable Discharges, General Discharges or Less Than Honorable Discharges. They said they have been denied benefits for treatment of Mental Illness resulting from PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma, Rape and Other Conditions. Other conditions were a spider bite and sleep apnea. They also said they can’t get access to the records RELATING TO THEIR DENIALS OF VA BENEFITS based on Less-Than-Honorable Discharges. Here is the initial Lawsuit Complaint filed in July 2019: https://www.wavy.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2019/08/VET-AMENDED-COMPLAINT-II-JULY-2019.pdf (1) One US Army Veteran served from 5 October 1979 to 14 January 1980 3 Months. He said he was physically assaulted by a SGT at Fort Benning , GA. Bet this happened at Basic Training, probably with 2 Drill SGTs. You can read his case at the PDF. (2) Then there was a Navy Guy who served from 1980-2000 and retired as a CPO. He said because of his job, he started abusing alcohol and drugs because of PTSD of his job. Again, you can read the rest of his case on the PDF. (3) Another Army Veteran served from 10 May 1977 -16 January 1979. He received the OTHD because he WENT AWOL. He went AWOL because he claimed he experienced ‘INTENSE PREJUDICE” and said he was set up by another Soldier by holding a bag that contained drugs. He blamed his Alcohol and Street Drug abuse for the reason why he went AWOL. (4) Another Sailor served from 16 August 1972-15 March 1973 He was placed in the Brig for 30 days for fighting another Sailor. He said he was physically assaulted and raped by his Commander aboard the ship. He said the Commander tried to kill him by hitting him on the head with an Iron Dust Pan and cracked his Skull that exposed his… Read more »

Also, the Group is inspiring other Veterans to file a Similar Lawsuit:

The Army guy who started this whole thing? Well here is his comment. He is using the Famous Words “You Are Not Above The Law”:

OWB

Here’s an idea for Big VA to ponder. How’s about I DON’T make any claims, blame anything on the military, or demand that y’all pay me a dime. Does that work for ya?

So, for NOT doing any of that, is it worth y’all sending me a little something each month just to save everyone the aggravation?

I have a family funeral in Massachusetts this Monday for my uncle. He is last WW2 vet in the family.
On a side note, his ship stopped in Boston before heading out to the North Atlantic to chase U-boats and he was rolled/robbed and left for dead in a ditch, his future wife found him and got him home covered in blood and mud.
RIP Paul

For a great February 2020 weekend laugh…
Take a look at the UPDATED webpage for
Les Brown’s
POW*MIA Elko Awareness Ass.

Due to webmaster failure,
the opening line
“We are a group of patriotic Americans”
looks like
“We are a group of pathetic Americans”.

No further embellishment about Elko POW*MIA necessary.
Their own website says it all.
20/20 vision.

Coincidentally…. Is this the time of year

Thanks for keeping us updated on the lying, embellishing, self centered POS Les Brown (stain) and the Elko POW/MIA Awareness Ass. Too bad we can’t do a forensic audit of their books.

Clicked on the Idaho linky. Wonder if they are more legit or if they are eat up with sleaze bags like ol’ lester’s bunch? Noticed their motto is “Doing the Right Thing.”

Cameron Kingsley

Well I’ll say this much, their website is definitely more professionally put together than Lester’s website (Lester’s is pretty sloppy looking). I was going to ask why the copyright is from 2018 until I checked the upcoming events and realized that they are for this year. So they’re still around unfortunately.

5th/77th FA —
I don’t know if Pocatello, Idaho is legit today,
or just appears to be almost legit,
with their own protected band of
Stolen Valor phonies.
I believe the evidence is on their own webpage, 1 way or the other.
They do keep and display a ton of photo history.

2 observations, then and now —

2019 – Pocatello was in total denial about Les Brown,
counterattacking on Facebook,
and deleting everything negative about
Stolen Valor phony Les Brown
and/or the ELko POW*MIA Awareness Ass.

2020 – Pocatello event photos BEFORE July 2019…
clearly show MORE patches on their badass black leather vests,
than on anything since Les Brown broke open……
By comparison, their vests today look barren….

Suggesting that Pocatello, Idaho may have done a self check
(patch ripping)
but leaving their long history out in open display
on the internet.

It’s the
“Let’s shut up and fix this BEFORE they catch us, too” syndrome.

SHAME on Pocatello for being ELKO ENABLERS.
… because it’s “for the cause.”
Bullshit.

The Plot Thickens! I Knew It! Please read Devton’s post in this week’s WOT about Mike Bloomberg’s Super Bowl Ad and my comment as well as rgr769’s comment about George Kemp, Jr. on his post. Then please read this: “Bloomberg’s $10M Super Bowl Ad Posts Misleading Stat On Child Gun Deaths” https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bloomberg-10-million-dollar-super-bowl-ad-gun-violence “In the raw and emotional one-minute spot, Calandrian Simpson Kemp recalls her son’s death: “On a Friday morning, George was shot. George didn’t survive. I just kept saying, ‘You cannot tell me that the child that I gave birth to, is no longer here.’ Lives are being lost every day. It is a national crisis.” “…court documents from a Texas state appellate court reviewed by Fox News show that the victim referenced in the advertisement, George Kemp, was 20 years old at the time of his death.” “On September 26, 2013, just before midnight, the police received a dispatch for shots fired,” the court wrote in its opinion, which denied an attempt to throw out evidence in the case. “When they arrived, they discovered a deceased male, later identified as George Kemp, age 20, lying face down in a pool of blood.” “The court said the case arose from a “gang-related shooting,” writing that “two groups of young men” had met that night “for a fight,” including a group led by “B. Dilworth, which included … Kemp.” “Those details were not disclosed in Bloomberg’s advertisement.” George Kemp, Jr was not a child. The REST OF THE STORY about George Kemp, Jr, Houston, Texas (featured in Bloomberg’s Super Bowl Ad). You Be The Judge: “Suspect Sought In Richmond Murder Case”: https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/fortbend/news/article/Suspect-sought-in-Richmond-murder-case-9535443.php rgr769’s comment (which he nailed): “So the twenty year old Kemp (likely a gang banger himself) decides to roll up with his homies on another black hoodlum and calling him out. Unfortunately for him the other dude has an armed “chile” with him who shoots Kemp. So Bloomie says we need laws to disarm we law abiding gun owners, when existing gun laws already prohibited the 18 year old shooter from possessing that pistol. What horseshit paid propaganda.… Read more »

This POS is the epitome of the career politician and what is wrong with our gubmint. I believe he is just PO’d at deTrumpster because, just like Hitlery, he felt it was again, his turn. After the mess that he helped make in the PDRofMA, there were enough people that didn’t want him doing more damage to us. One of these days (possibly in the very near future), the Left is going to find out the hard way why the Gadsden Flag has a Timber Rattlesnake on it (I would prefer an Eastern Diamondback myself because it’s the largest rattlesnake species and it has a wicked bite). If I was from India or anywhere in Southeast Asia, I’d go with the King Cobra. https://www.dailywire.com/news/district-attorney-in-maine-wants-to-start-prosecuting-people-based-on-accusations-and-nothing-else

The Other Whitey

I’d go with a Mojave Green rattler, whose venom has both neurotoxic and hemotoxic properties. Those’ll fuck you up.

rgr769

I believe all rattlesnakes and most pit vipers have venom that is both hemotoxic and neurotoxic.
