Russia to Drop Murder Charge Against Sisters Who Killed Dad

MOSCOW — Investigators in the case of three sisters accused of killing their abusive father have been ordered by Russia’s Prosecutor General’s office to drop the murder charge against them and instead classify their actions as self-defense, their lawyer said Friday.

The case elicited widespread outcry after reports emerged that the sisters — 17, 18 and 19 years old at the time — acted after years of being beaten and raped. In December, Russia’s Investigative Committee charged Maria, Angelina and Krestina Khachaturyan with premeditated murder, despite their lawyers arguing that young women acted in self-defense.

On Friday, their lawyer, Alexei Parshin, was quoted by the TASS news agency as saying that the Prosecutor General’s office refused to support the Investigative Committee’s case and ordered the murder charged to be dropped.

Prosecutors concluded the sisters’ actions were “carried out within the legal limits of the necessary self-defense,” Parshin said and suggested the case against the sisters might be closed altogether.

2 women in custody after police-involved shooting at Mar-a-lago

Samantha Branca
MAR-A-LAGO, Fla. (WSVN/AP) — Police have taken two women in custody after a security breach at the Mar-a-lago estate ended in a police-involved shooting.

According to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Hannah Roemhild was driving a black SUV erratically and refused to stop. She and another woman have since been taken into custody uninjured.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were following the black SUV when it fled through two security check points on the property, Friday, at around 11:40 a.m.

Officers fired shots at the vehicle as it headed towards the main entrance of the estate.

The vehicle continued to flee from FHP troopers and a PBSO helicopter before it was later located on the property.

Based on a preliminary investigation, investigators believe that Roemhild approached the checkpoint at a high rate of speed and did not appear to brake in any way, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition in anonymity in order to discuss the investigation.

The checkpoint, a series of concrete barriers and armed officers, is blocks away from the actual resort.

Witness draws gun to foil attempted carjacking of 68-year-old woman at Fort Worth mall

BY JACK HOWLAND
An attempted carjacking of a woman was thwarted outside of the Hulen Mall on Tuesday when a witness drew a gun on the two men carrying out the attack, police said.

Police are searching for the suspects, who were captured walking together in a grainy surveillance video. They’re described as two black men between the ages of 20 and 25.

The woman, a 68-year-old from Denton, was returning to her car a little after noon Tuesday in the parking lot near Macy’s when the two suspects pulled her from her BMW. She reportedly tried to fight off the men and one of them punched her in the face.

They tried to steal the car, police said, but couldn’t get it to go into drive because the woman had the key fob in her pocket.

They took her purse, but a witness drew a gun on them, leading them to drop it, police said. They didn’t get away with any property.

One Tokarev over the line….

No bogarting of that pistol, my friend…pass it over to me.

Inquiring minds want to know whether they capped daddy with a Tokarev or some other Ruskie firearm.

The prosecutor has decreed the shooting wasn’t over the line. But you have one-lined the investigators’ legal position.

Hack Stone

Hack Stone is amazed that street crime still occurs in Texas, what with every good guy and gal packing a firearm. Of course, if criminals had any brains, they would do a risk/benefit analysis before setting out on their crime spree and see if it was worth it to get a few hundred dollars only to go to prison for six years and getting reamed every night by his cell mate.

LEO BiL told me once that they were so busy locking up the dumb crooks that they never had time to go after the smart ones. Isn’t giving the ethnic identity of perps raciss?

David

Started watching ‘Rockford Files’ recently. Talk about bringing back memories… one of the first episodes has a bad guy with a Tokarev. One of the others had a slug, unidentifiable as rifle or pistol, described as a 7.65mm (7.65 rifle?) Almost all the perps using .357s with a scattering of .45s. Much simpler times, but all the polyester and giant lapels – if you built Kevlar into them you would have had 80% coverage.
