It should have been a routine delivery with the 32-year-old FedEx driver dropping off a package to a home in the area, but that’s when police say, an armed gunman approached and robbed the driver, perhaps not anticipating that the FedEx driver was also armed.

“He was able to tell police that he was making a delivery on the 600 block of Unruh and right when he got done making that delivery, he was approached by at least one male and he was robbed at point of gun,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police say the driver was shot once in the abdomen during the robbery. Police say as they were receiving calls about shots fired in the area, the FedEx driver was able to drive himself to a nearby parking lot away from the scene.

He was transported to Einstein Medical Center and is in stable condition.

He told police that after being shot in the stomach, he pulled out his own weapon and returned fire at the suspect.

Brownsville police identify man killed in morning shooting

by Ali Mason
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.– Brownsville police responded to this home on Robin Street Tuesday morning, where 33-year-old Xavier Morris was shot and killed.

“Apparently, it was some ongoing situation between the two, and it ended up with this here,” Evans said. “Xavier Morris received one gunshot wound to the chest area.”

Evans said officers responded to the home around 9 a.m. Tuesday, and found several people inside the home where the shooting happened.

Police say those witnesses who were in the home were able to identify 32-year-old Michael Shutes, Jr. as the alleged shooter, and told investigators he ran from the house after the shooting.

The gun investigators believe was used in the shooting was found underneath a house during a search of the area.

“We don’t know the exact caliber yet, may be a smaller caliber, but we’re not sure until the autopsy is done,” Evans said.

Evans said the shooting has been ruled self-defense, and Shutes is not expected to face charges in connection with Morris’ death.

“They opened the box, took out the content and threw the packing box down on the ground and took off walking down the street,” Rockwood said.

He said they all made eye contact and the thieves took off.

“I knew that they had taken something, so I said, ‘well, I’ll go see if I can’t retrieve it,’” Rockwood said.

So he jumped in his car and followed them down the street.

“They threw down the package and went down the alley right between these houses right here,” Rockwood said.

He said he confronted them on Marquette Drive.

“I showed them I had a weapon and I said get on the ground,” Rockwood said. “Don’t make this any harder than it has to be.”

Rockwood said two of the suspects took off. while another got on the ground. He said he held the teen there until St. Matthews Police came and arrested him. A few hours later, Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said all three suspects were in custody. Wilkerson said their quick response was due in part to what Rockwood did.

Not a bad day, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes. Two down and four inconvenienced. Could have been two but for the no honor among among porch pirates part.

Hmmm. That this happened on Unruh Avenue is a little irony.

Howard Unruh was a “spree killer” who killed 13 people in 1949 in Camden, New Jersey.

My money says FedEx will fire that poor bastard for carrying a pistol and defending himself with it.

2 dead punks and 4 off the streets ,albeit temporarily, is a good score in anyone’s book. We’ll gladly take it. Fed-Ex driver may not have a job when it’s all over. Most companies do not allow employees to carry. They prolly waiting to see which way the popo goes with the investigation. Hope he gets well soon.

Very nice hand howitzer you gots there Mister. Shoot something with that may not even need the nice skinning knife to get the hide off. Personal stock or Christmas List Item?
