Weekend Open Thread

You’re scuba diving. You enjoy the scenery and sensation of “flying” just above the seafloor. You turn around and see this… (Getty Images/Cultura RF)

A phony SEAL is exposed and he gets wind of his exposure. He opens his Facebook account and sees multiple responses with links leading to this site and to Military Phonies.

Then, a sock puppet arrives here.

The sock puppet advances some arguments: we do not have all the documents, they are digging for supporting documentation, the records were lost, their records are secret, and so on. Then, the inevitable happens. You guys tear into the sock puppet like sharks tearing into prey in a feeding frenzy.

In this case, sharks attacking somebody that jumped into shark-infested waters right after they slapped shark bait all over themselves.

Enjoy your weekend.

Always an Honor Chief Petty Officer, never a Chief Petty Officer.

Hack Stone

Change that to read “Always an Honorary Chief Petty Officer, never a Chief Petty Officer.”

Hack Stone Publishing regrets the error, but he purchased his software from some lame ass proud but humble woman business that used to be located in Bethesda Maryland.

Having just narrowly missed the coveted “First” once again, I console myself with the knowledge that now I get to bring you the last trivia column for 2019. Next time I place this silly stuff here, we’ll be in a new year. How ’bout that? DID YOU KNOW…? How many fathers and sons earned the Medal of Honor? By Commissioner Wretched Merry Christmas! Yes, I am fully aware that everybody reading this column does not celebrate Christmas. And to all of you who don’t, I wish you the joys of whatever holiday season you celebrate. Whether it’s Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, all of the above, none of the above, or something I haven’t yet heard of, I hope it is your most happy and joyous ever. For those reading this after Christmas, I hope the holiday was as happy as your circumstances will allow it to have been. My memories of Christmas are many and joyous, considering I have 61 of them behind me now. The first few I don’t recall, of course, but of those I remember, they’re all good. From opening gifts with my brother and sister to now, when I see the faces of my grandchildren, I relive all the happy moments every Christmas. I hope you do too. And my Christmas gift to all of you, my friends, is another installment of the trivia you’ve come to look for in this space. Merry Christmas! Did you know … … the CEO of Food For The Poor has a very ironic name? One of the largest non-governmental organizations in the world, Food For The Poor is led by a man named Robin Mahfood. (You can’t make this stuff up, folks.) … horses focus their eyes differently from humans? Humans use muscles in and around the eye to change its shape in order to focus. But a horse changes the angle of its head to focus instead. (Can you imagine a horse wearing eyeglasses?) … smiling at a dog may not be a very good idea? According to people who know, dogs interpret smiles as a baring of… Read more »

Fine job again CW, lubs your trivia column. TR Sr’s 4 sons all served their country, Quentin being killed in WWI, Archie & TR Jr being wounded.

TR Jr and Quentin II were the only father son to land on Normandy beach.

I, too, miss good sock puppets. Changing out the foo gas and claymores to keep them fresh is aggravating.

Maybe Elaine could start selling some other type of soft ware Hack Stone? Like some Charmin with her picture on it? That way she could clean up some crap and kiss our azzes at the same time.

David

Douglas Jr. was also nominated twice for a MoH, according to a book I have (“One Against the Enemy”. He was nominated while still a young lieutenant for some derring-do in Mexico.

SFC D

All I wanted for Christmas was sock puppets and angry, defensive posers. C’mon Santa, work with me!

Hack Stone

It’s just not the same these days. People complain these days about the new Corps verse the old Corps, the new Army verse the old Army, and the new Navy verse the old Navy, but the posers these days do not commit to the effort of fully embracing their fantasies with threats of violence and lawsuits against those that would expose them. When was the last time that This Ain’t Hell even got a decent death threat? Maybe things will pick up a bit ow that Joe Cryer is back on the street.

rgr769

Yes, I suspect we are losing too many of us oldsters who really know how to be a successful POSer. There are hardly any claiming to be former POW’s, and we have had barely any sockpuppets this year. Plus I haven’t seen a support mutt for quite a while. Our most recent faker had zero indicia of a POSer who was really trying at his fakery.

SFC D

I’ll just leave this charming little ditty here for your holiday entertainment…

Fyrfighter

Ok SFC D, that’s just freaking awesome! (and kinda does remind me of a few family members…

It’s what my Irish family would be if we drank more!

16st!!!! And don’t youse guys (and gals) forget it. Hope you all had a Merry and Happy Christmas.

The Stranger

I’m not even going to try to figure out what number I am this week. But, as always, FIRST in everyone’s heart!
Merry Christmas (3rd day)!

GDContractor

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year, you miscreants.

Here’s a story you can celebrate with me.

My Dad was born in 1935 and considered himself a child of the depression. He did a hitch in the Navy in the late ’50s and was a Radioman on a few minesweepers, and later became a Civil Engineer. He never was into collecting “cool stuff”.

I was very familiar with his inventory since childhood. Everything he had was utilitarian, and stuff he had picked up used, at a bargain.
I was living in Alaska and he was in Dallas when he passed away. Several years went by and I ended up moving back to Dallas and my stepmother invited me to come over and pick up all of the guns, which I did. Then, at least a year later she called me up and said, ” I found another one of your dad’s pistols. I was rearranging the furniture and a gun just fell out of the headboard. If you want to, come over and get it.” So I did… and I was somewhat perplexed because I had never seen this pistol before. I had no idea that my dad even owned it. I gave it a quick look and put it in the safe and really haven’t messed with it much since then, thinking it was a mass produced S&W Model 10 from the ’50s. Yesterday morning, on Christmas, it was a shock to me to discover that it had US Navy markings. And since that point, 48 hours ago, I have learned a lot about it and its history. Its a GI S&W Victory Model probably produced and shipped to the Navy in 1943. Carried by USN and USMC pilots and air crew, it’s in great shape! Which makes a pretty awesome Christmas present! Thanks Dad!

SFC D

Somewhere, deep in the Navy files, there is a statement of charges from some poor LTJG. Excellent find!

Graybeard

Cool. A great (if belated) Christmas gift from your Dad.

Dennis - not chevy

Unlike my older relatives who told stories of the old country; I don’t want to have to rely upon history to tell tales to my young relatives. Here’s hoping the new year brings characters such as those from the past and the fun they bring. Where are the cheese eating heavy chevy’s, the round rangers; where are their sock-puppets? These were phonies who stood up for themselves. Having asked that, I’m glad the phonies who tried to destroy peoples lives with harassment and law-suits have not reared their ugliness.

20th. I saw a pic of Werner Goldberg years ago on a magazine cover but if I remember either he had his name changed before enlisting or the magazine put his pic out not realizing his name. The pic was shot
with
the side view of his face under his helmet. There was a U-Boot Cmdr that was half Jewish and after the war, he came to the states to live and his son joined the US Air Force. He did write a book which I did read about his time in the Navy. I think his name was Smolkien or something like that. Maybe I should have googled it before I typed in this comment as I watched the type ribbon going from one spool to the other. Another hour and I will take a nappy poo in the old recliner. How did I end up with two paragraphs????

That photo looks like Nancy’s loose dentures.

rgr769

His present altitude is the only time in attempts at being a light sport pilot where he has been able to maintain his assigned altitude.

Hack Stone

Damn shame that he didn’t have any Red Bull with him on that doomed flight, he may have made it.

Top Forty and Honorary First once again.

A Proud Infidel®™️

And Epstein didn’t kill himself.

Hack Stone

That may be true, but Daniel Bernath did, but In has case it was self-murder.

Priceless: two Russian comedians prank call Schiff and take it from there.

IDC SARC

Dammit I missed the poser buffet…oh well

The Al

I know that feel. I missed sockpuppet time too.

A Proud Infidel®™

I too miss getting to chew on sockpuppets…

Graybeard

Yeah, sockpuppets are such fun chewtoys.

OAE CPO USN Ret

Breaking news from the obvious news department.

1. Daniel Bernath is still dead.

2. hEwHoShAlLnOtBeNaMeD is still a clown.

3. Joseph B Cryer is cooling his heels in the Worcester County Maryland lockup for killing his dog. The current sentence is 3 years with 2 years 6 months and 1 day suspended, and then 3 years probation. Will he have to do the whole 6 months or he get out early? Stay tuned for further developments.

OAE CPO USN Ret

…or *will he get out early.

The obvious news department’s grammar checker has been fired. Hopefully the new one does a better job.

The Other Whitey

More Red Dawn progress.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all!

5th/77th FA

Awesome TOW. Keep ’em coming. Real nice assortment of shoulder fired artillery. Looks like a bayonet attached M1, a .30 carbine, burp/grease gun, trench shottie, and a thumper, among others. Nice details Thanks!

The Other Whitey

Yep, the tank crew get a pair of Grease guns and a short AR, plus a sawed-off for an extra “get off my lawn” piece. Militia dudes get Garands, Carbines, and M79. The M16 is for the one guy in woodland BDUs and PASGT vest. I figure the Army would want at least a couple of active-duty officers assigned to such an outfit if said outfit was expected to actually do anything, hence the one guy whose weapon and gear is not like the others (he’s supposed to be opening a Pepsi, by the way—the can is a period-appropriate white one, though you can’t really see it in his hands).

Graybeard

I must be getting old, I completely forgot about the WOT until today.

Christmas was great at the GB Compound – we have way too many desserts left over – and all the kids & grandkids had a great time. We are blessed in that our family is a haven of peace for all our family, in-laws, out-laws, and by-laws.

Been busy rebuilding the fishing dock in our pond.
(The pond is WAY down due to the lack of any significant rainfall amounts for several months, yet we’ve had enough rain to keep us out of the “drought” category. Odd.)
Found several of the old piers (30+ years) had rotted through. Took my PHD and some treated lumber and got it fixed.

Praying all at TAH have a very blessed and prosperous 2020. Especially those like WW who have some serious challenges, may God grant that you overcome all of them.

UpNorth

We’ve had plenty of rain, a record-breaking year already, and we’re promised 1-2″ of rain Sunday night-Monday morning.
Lake Michigan is slowly reclaiming shoreline on Michigan’s west coast. Those who’ve built houses overlooking the shoreline are busy paying thousands of $$ to haul in big boulders to keep the water away from the base of sand dunes.

Graybeard

I seem to remember a parable Jesus told about those who are like the man who built his house on the sand, and the floods coming.

My favorite god-daughter & her family are up in the rainy country, but down here it’s missed us so far.
