Arrests made in deadly shootout at Scranton club
BY DAVID SINGLETON
SCRANTON — An off-duty security guard acted in self-defense when he shot and wounded three men, one fatally, during a Mother’s Day shootout outside a North Scranton after-hours club, an investigation concluded.City police arrested two other men Thursday for their roles in the May 12 incident outside the now-shuttered Castle, 1826 N. Main Ave., including the gunman they identified as the instigator, but brought no charges against Damion Pitters after determining he was defending himself when he opened fire.
A Scranton man, Parker D. Palermo, 20, died at Geisinger Community Medical Center after police say he was shot by Pitters during the melee, which happened just after the Castle closed at 5 a.m.
Investigators charged James Montalvo-Gaston, 20, 805 S. Keyser Ave., who was with Palermo outside the club and was seriously wounded in the incident, with aggravated assault and several other offenses.
“After an extensive and thorough investigation by Scranton police, which included interviews with multiple eyewitnesses and a review of surveillance video footage, we have determined that Montalvo-Gaston was the primary aggressor and initiated the violence that erupted outside the Castle,” Lackawanna County District Attorney Mark Powell said.
The second man arrested Thursday, Joseff Conrad Baskerville, 28, 166 S. Grant St., Wilkes-Barre, faces a single count of carrying a firearm without a license.

By Robin Kanady
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) – Police say a gas station customer was acting in self-defense when he took matters into his own hands Thursday morning, shooting two suspects who tried to rob the store.Chaotic moments broke out just before 4 a.m. at the 7-Eleven in the 4800 block of Brookshire Boulevard.
Police say the two teenage suspects, identified as Qwanterrius Stafford and Brenna Harris, first robbed the customer of his wallet before turning their attention to the store clerk.
“They immediately went straight to him, pointed a gun at him, within inches of his face, very aggressively pointed a gun at him,” Sgt. Brian Scharf with CMPD said.
They had no idea that customer inside had a lawfully concealed gun until he fired shots at both suspects.
Stafford, 16, died inside the store, according to investigators. Harris, 17, got about a mile and a half away on Saratoga Drive before police took him into custody.

Mixed bag today Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, with a respectable three in the chill chest, another three inconvenienced, and one in the wind. Not bad at all.

Scranton: teh stoopid real strong that time of the morning. James got his buddy kilt, he’s in the body and fender shop (c’mon staph infection) and it appears that Kwayshawn (sigh) and the other pistol is looking for another choir to join.
Hey Qwanterrius (CLAW, come up), next time frisk your FIRST victim before you move to the next. Oh…wait…Won’t be a next time for you.
Detroit: “…shot the man a few times…pronounced dead…” Yep, that will generally do it.
Guess since none of these shootings were done by a crazy white boy with a scary black rifle, they won’t make the big news. Pity
“Gentlemen mind your manners.” You talking to me specifically or are you quoting Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto. Either way…daaayyuuum. We may have to quote a ZZ Top Tune here.
