Nothing Exciting, Unless Your Boat is On Fire

Coast Guard Station Pensacola responds to vessel on fire

Looks like the Puddle Pounders are busy all the time. In this instance, they helped a local fire department put out a fire on a big motorboat offshore, down near Pensacola. FL.

There’s a brief movie, too, embedded in the article, by PO3 Mitchell.

That is a nice and rather expensive boat. But it isn’t the only rescue the Waterdogs engaged in this month. They were busy over near St. Petersburg, with a boat taking on water.

From the article:  Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders dispatched a Coast Guard Station Cortez 29-foot Response Boat— Medium crew to respond.

The crew arrived on scene, removed three of the people aboard and embarked two Coast Guard boatcrewmen and a dewatering pump. The crewmen began dewatering the boat while the captain of the vessel made way to Coquina boat ramp where the vessel was trailered. – article.

Not quite as exciting as making a big cocaine bust on a semi-submersible, but it is all in a day’s work for them. I’m waiting for winter, when the icebreakers get out on the Great Lakes to plow out shipping lanes between the Midwest and the Atlantic, and they have to take that big orange-and-white helicopter out to rescue people who do silly things.

“…dewatering the boat.” Thought the FIRST rule of being a Sailor was to keep the water on the OUTSIDE of the vessel?

De watering is taking the water out of the boat most likely from the line/lines (hose) that were putting the wet stuff on the red stuff. If it didn’t sink, I would call it a good stop, even though in the condition it is in what I see in the above pic, that’s a lot of fire damage.

Sorry Jeff, I’ll change the burned out bulb in my snarky light.
