Iran denies US destroyed an Iranian drone near Persian Gulf

USS Boxer used electronic measures to take down a drone that was operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to Pentagon sources. The Navy says the drone was destroyed in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday after it came too close to the vessel and repeated warnings went unheeded.

The U.S. Defense Department officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly, say the drone was one of several threats to the Boxer as it passed through the narrow waterway near Iran’s coast. They say at least one Iranian helicopter and several fast boats also were moving toward the ship on Thursday morning. The actions prompted the Boxer to send up a helicopter, which then flew side-by-side with the Iranian aircraft to ward it off.

The boats eventually followed radio warnings to break off contact, but the drone headed toward the Boxer instead of veering off, the sources say. Its presence was deemed a potential threat to flight operations aboard the amphibious assault ship, which carries a number of helicopters along with Osprey tiltrotor aircraft and a handful of fighter jets.

The news site Military.com says a new anti-drone system used by the Marine Corps was responsible for bringing down the Iranian drone, though the military has not confirmed that report. USNI News notes that the Navy has previously disclosed that the Marines have operated the jamming system on the deck of a U.S. ship.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran on Friday denied President Donald Trump’s statement that a U.S. warship destroyed an Iranian drone near the Persian Gulf after it threatened the ship — an incident that marked a new escalation of tensions between the countries less than a month after Iran downed an American drone in the same waterway and Trump came close to retaliating with a military strike.

The Iranian military said all its drones had returned safely to their bases and denied there was any confrontation with a U.S. vessel the previous day.

“We have not lost any drone in the Strait of Hormuz nor anywhere else,” tweeted Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The strait is at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and serves as the passageway for a fifth of all global crude exports; a clash there highlights the risk of war between Iran and the U.S.

Trump on Thursday said the amphibious assault ship Boxer took defensive action after an Iranian drone closed to within 1,000 yards of the warship and ignored multiple calls to stand down.

Trump blamed Iran for a “provocative and hostile” action and said the U.S. responded in self-defense. Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, told reporters as he arrived for a meeting at the United Nations that “we have no information about losing a drone today.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said on its website Friday that it would release images from the drone — taken both before and after the U.S. claimed it was downed.

Not real good at cat & mouse, are they?

Slow Joe

And now we just announced to Vlad that we can bring down his drones with e-counter measures.

Why didn’t the Boxer shoot it down old school style?

Why? To announce that we have operational directed-energy weapons.

We need to know they work on threat gear.

They only deter if the other guys know they exist and work.

I had a tropospheric scatter (TRC-170) team take down 2 USMC drones in the early stages of invading Iraq. Team chief told the drone guys DO NOT attempt a takeoff through the transmission path. 2K Watts x2 antennas equals big jammer. End result was a normal takeoff followed by a snap roll and power dive. Twice.

Aggravating little piss ant mofos. Bring the dam dam down on the rag headed SOBs. Religion of Peace my a$$. You behead, cruixify, burn alive, rape, and bring terror down on innocent people by flying airplanes into buildings. And we want even discuss what you do to women and little girls. If 1/5th of the world’s oil passes thru there, then let’s keep the Straits open and charge the ones that want that oil for our service.

I agree, too, that ol’ Vlad may be encouraging a lot of this so he can sell more of his oil on the world market. The whole world, including a lot of elected congress critters want to scream “Death to America”, all the while screaming for our foreign aid, food, money, protection et al.

Do these fools know or care that it is only about a 22 minute trip from Minot to the Gulf? Just saying.

Has Jimmy Carter offered to meet with his comrades and find some meaningful to diminish the U.S.? If not, is John Kerry available to disparage and subjugate American interests?

James Taylor was not immediately available. Living proof that there is a merciful, loving and patient God.

The next time that Iran acts as a fool, let Obama take it, where it came from.
