The MMR vax update is really important because it is much harder on adults than it is on children.
Measles infested the Roman Army and swept through Europe twice, as did smallpox. Galen the Physician described the appearance as raised bumps (probably smallpox, but could have also been measles). Both came from the Middle East with the return of troops who had been involved in fighting the Parthians.
And when I talked to my sister about this, she agreed that smallpox is still lurking somewhere out in the wild.
