Police: Man dies of gunshot wounds after Sioux City home invasion

BRET HAYWORTH

SIOUX CITY — The owner of a home on Sioux City’s north side fatally shot a man after he broke into the residence Tuesday morning, police said.

The home invasion and shooting occurred minutes after the unidentified intruder had jumped out of a second-floor window of a nearby home at 1216 25th St. Cut by the broken glass and leaving a blood trail, he ran through alleys, and then broke into the home at 1321 24th St. at about 8:30 a.m., police Det. John Sanders said. The intruder reportedly struggled with a male homeowner, who was armed with a gun to protect himself.

“A shot was fired during the struggle … The homeowner shot the suspect who broke into the house,” Sanders said at a news conference at police headquarters Tuesday afternoon.

Texas home invasion suspect shot dead by homeowner’s son: reports

By Bradford Betz

A suspected home intruder was fatally shot in the head in Houston on Tuesday while trying to escape with two other culprits, police said.

Shortly after arriving at his southwest Houston home, a father was pistol-whipped by three suspects who had forced him to open the door, police said. The father’s two daughters managed to hide in the closet and hit a panic alarm. The girls were eventually found and the suspects continued ransacking the home, First Coast News reported.

When the father’s wife and son arrived home, the suspects fled, the report said. As they were fleeing, the son retrieved a gun and shot one of the suspects in the head, reports said.

Burlington mother uses gun to defend 10-year-old son, home against burglar

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WTVD) — A woman shot at and scared off a man who was trying to steal from her Burlington home Wednesday morning.

According to Burlington Police Department, the crime happened before 4 a.m. at a home on Everette Street.

The woman, a 31-year-old mother, said she and her 10-year-old son were asleep when the burglary began.

The woman said she woke up to noises in her kitchen.

When she went downstairs she saw a man in his early to mid-20s, wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, had broken through her kitchen window.

The burglar pointed a semi-automatic pistol at her and opened fire. That’s when she returned fire and the burglar started retreating out of the house.

The woman nor her son were injured in the attempted burglary; she will not face charges.

Now why would she face charges? Sorry, rhetorical question; the rest of the article may be viewed here: https://abc11.com/mother-uses-gun-to-defend-10-year-old-son-home-against-burglar/5

Another day finds us, Delta Whiskies and Whisketts, with two DRT, none inconvenienced by meds or feds, and one in the wind.  The young mother did well to spook the intruder, but should sign up for some classes and range time.

Two (2) less parasites on society and another with skidmarked step ins. Good start to the day.

Don’t mess with a Mama Bear. Hope everyone in the mid west are digging out ok. Saw a blurb where some had a 50 degree drop/change in temperature over 24 hours. Outcast take a few days off.

2/0/1, not bad. Wasn’t 1 from the other day of perp being shot in leg, if it is then we reached a positive ending, keep thinking that one ought to get some poison frog juice and soak bullet in it to help clean up the streets. 2, son must have gotten some good range time, other two probably went to nearest bathroom to change drawers. 3. bet she starts to consider going to range, at least she was still able to shoot while being shot at. Didn’t get full story as was deleted from the site that is suggested. Saw a couple small drifts in town when took better half to work at quarter to 5 here, can’t say how it is out in the country.

Why were their firearms not locked up and the ammo stored seperately? It’s the law!

MI Ranger

I believe they left out the part where the homeowner went to their safe and retrieved their firearm (though it may not identify as a firearm), and disabled the lawfully applied trigger lock, and breach safety. Retrieved the bolt from a separate location, and then went to the ammunition safe and got the appropriate type of rounds for their legal (less than ten rounds) magazine. Than safely loaded the weapon in manner that could not endanger others while keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. They then of course proceeded to call out to the suspected home invader that they are believed to be in violation of city ordnances, and possibly other laws and in accordance with said laws it may be necessary for them to defend themselves against such illegal behavior. They waited the appropriate amount of time for the suspected home invader to reply and provide evidence to disprove their claim, and only then did they discharge their firearm (or whatever it currently identifies itself as) in a safe direction, so as not to endanger others, with the intent not to kill or maim but to prevent the suspected home invader from continuing to commit violations of the laws and ordnances of the local….this of course was too wordy for a short news piece and they chose just to describe it as “the homeowner got their gun and shot the intruder.”

During the early 70’s, The terrorist groups in the States were starting to rob Natl. Guard Armories for their weapons so when I was a member of the Guard out in Huntington Station LI NY, the armorer would drive over to the Suffolk County LI NY police station and pick up the M-16 & M-60 bolts if needed when we had our weekend drills.
