Army Awards $976 Million for Border Wall Construction Contracts

The Army moved money, originally allocated for counter narcotics, to contracts for border wall construction. The Democrat House isn’t too happy about this, they didn’t want the military to move funds around in order to contribute to border wall construction.
However, Congress previously authorized the military to transfer up to $4 billion from what the appropriations were originally intended for… To what the military needs to spend it on.

“These funds will be used to support [the Homeland Security Department’s] request to build 57 miles of 18-foot-high pedestrian fencing, constructing and improving roads, and installing lighting within the Yuma and El Paso Sectors of the border,” the Defense Department announced at the time.

Per Tuesday’s announcement, SLSCO Ltd. out of Galveston, Texas, received a $789 million contract, and is expected to finish their portion of border wall construction in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, by October 1, 2020. Barnard Construction Co. Inc. in Bozeman, Montana, received $187 million, and will be building “primary pedestrian wall replacement” in Yuma, Arizona. The expected completion date is Sept. 30, 2020.
President Trump did give Congress an opportunity to provide him what he needed to enhance our border security. There’s a good chance that he already knew that he had this option. But, it was better to get Congress, specifically the Democrats, to play their hand.
Result? They’re in full view as working against what’s needed to stem the flow of human trafficking, and drugs, across our border. President Trump, on the other hand, is seen as taking action after not getting the support that he needed.

The purpose of the military is to defend the Country.
The purpose of Congress is to allocate money for the military to do their job. We are being invaded on a daily basis. The money spent to support these invaders would build a dozen walls.
First step in assuring your survival is setting up a secure perimeter. Repelling boarders is also a very high priority. Keeping them from electing and getting elected to congress is critical.
This money is in addition to the 3.6 billion of military construction funding also redirected toward the wall!
Don’t forget the second contract in El Paso sector, gets 46 miles of 30 foot bollard fencing with 5 foot anti climb plate.
So much winning!!
Oh, I see. A classic sports maneuver – Pres. dTrump did an end run-around to gain the field advantage, leaving the opposition chasing their tails and running the wrong way.

It is the “field decision” reviews by the other team that is slowing down the game.
It wasn’t just from counternarcotics, most of it came from funding for personnel.
It was also against the law. The president using emergency powers to override congress and allocate funds is unconstitutional and if the right wing court rules it is ok due to Trump appointees swinging the vote then it will be a vote the right will come to regret. Bigly.
And the American people should regret it immediately since it means the president can use emergency powers for just about anything.
Spinning this as a partisan issue that only democrats oppose is sheep mindedness.

How is it Unconstitutional -You had no problem with Obamacare mandating Americans To Buy health Insurance or face a find. Only Insurance your required to purchase is Auto because driving is not a right but a privilege and Home Insurance Do to Safety and damage. The US Military is to protect the USA not Europe ,Asia,Africa or South America Goes For NATO and The UN . Obama went behind Congress back many times. Also The POTUS can call up the Guard especially the reserves which are Federal.

Please cite (1) the specific portion of Federal law you claim was violated, given the fact that Congress has authorized reprogramming of up to $4B, and (2) the specific part of the Constitution you claim was violatled. Be specific, and give your reasoning.

And just to be clear since so many Trump supporters are acting willfully ignorant of the issue;
The emergency powers were passed by congress in order to temporarily give the president congressional powers during an emergency so the president can respond quickly while congress deliberates and makes the final decision on what the country should do.
Emergency powers absolutely were not intended to allow the president to override congress AFTER congress made the decision.
The fact that you think we should live in a country where the president can decide to do whatever it wants using powers constitutionally reserved for congress simply because he does not like what congress decided is scary.
You position is literally that we should not have coequal branches of government. You are literally celebrating the president claiming he is the sovereign and a higher authority than congress and he can use congressional powers against the will of congress if he does not like what congress chose to do.
You are calling this “winning”.
If the process never intended to allow the President (any President) to override the congressional decision, the ability to do so would be specifically proscribed. It is not.

To sum it up, ALL Presidents since 1976 have used Emergency Powers. The above article has the lists of Presidents and what they did to use those Powers.
If you took History in College, then you will remember how FDR used those powers during WWII…and what Harry Truman had to do during the Korean Conflict in the early 1950s.

One can argue that no reprogramming was necessary in the first place, and that building walls is a legitimate use of counternarcotics funding for its appropriated purpose. The argument is short and simple – so simple even a Berkeley grad can follow it:
