CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A 57-year-old gas station clerk who shot a would-be robber has been fired.

The attempted robbery happened at 4:25 a.m. on Sat., March 23 at the Shell Gas station at the corner of East Arapahoe Road and University Boulevard in Centennial, across from the Streets at SouthGlenn shopping area.

Law enforcement sources tell the Problem Solvers surveillance video shows a 14-year-old suspect sticking a gun in the face of the clerk. Moments later the clerk, who has a conceal carry permit, took out his own gun and fired once, hitting the suspect in his stomach.

‘It’s You Or Him’; Elderly Homeowner Shoots One Of Three Would-Be Robbers During Attempted Home Invasion

CHICAGO (CBS) — A 78-year-old man turned the tables on would-be robbers in the Belmont Central neighborhood Monday evening, shooting one of three men who tried to break into his home with a crowbar.

The homeowner, who asked to remain anonymous, said he saw three men using a crowbar to try to get inside his home near Merrimac and Schubert Avenues around sunset Monday night.

When the homeowner opened the door after hearing a noise, one man trying to break in raised the crowbar to smash the glass. The homeowner shot one of the would-be robbers through the storm door.

“That was a tough decision. It’s not like going hunting. It’s hard to shoot a human and not think about it. It’s going to stay with me the rest of my life, what happened. You hate to do something like that, but like the police said, it’s you or him,” the homeowner said. “I didn’t feel good doing that, but he would have gotten me with that crowbar. If I get hit with something like a baseball bat, or a crowbar, you ain’t gonna make it.”

Police said that man who was shot limped away from the scene, and the other two got away in a red Dodge Caravan.

Homeowner holds burglary suspect at gunpoint until deputies arrive

By WSAZ News Staff
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — The Fayette County Sheriff’s office says a man has been charged with burglary and battery of a police officer.

According to Sheriff Mike Fridley, John David Backus, 33, of Mt. Nebo, was attempting to break-in to a home in Dixie early Saturday morning when the homeowner was alerted and held Backus at gunpoint until deputies arrived.

A mom and two kids escaped through a bedroom window and went to a neighbor’s house to call 911.

After deputies arrived they say Backus bit one deputy and punched another. Neither deputy was seriously injured.

Busy day Delta Whiskies and Whisketts. Looks like no morts, two inconvenienced- one WRT and the other in the slammer, and an alarming three in the wind, with one of that bunch leaking. Lets hope it’s nothing trivial. Sorry for the gas station guy, hope he finds employment with an outfit that isn’t so short sighted in employees protecting people and property.

Colorado; 14 yo…sigh…If you are old enough to do an adult crime, then you are old enough to do adult time. And then the company firing an 18 year employee. How many stores like that have people that will stay 18 years? And defend company property while defending themselves? Grrrrrr. By announcing that there is a company policy against employees defending themselves and company property, they are letting everyone know that it is wanting to be robbed.

Chiraqistan; Good on Pops for popping the perp. My primary home defender leaves multiple holes in the torso. The backup is for delivering double taps.

W. VA; attempted B&E, assault on an LEO by teeth with intent to bite, resisting ect ect…Now the citizens will have to provide room and board.

Slim pickens at the payoff window, but we still won. Every dirt bag we take out today, is one less to deal with tomorrow.

The Other Whitey

Re: Colorado, I read a Louis L’Amour novel once called “Last Stand At Papago Wells.” One character describes her naive hatred of her father for killing a young man in self-defense, saying, “He was just a boy!”

The main character, who’s familiar with both her dad and the dead guy, replies, “He may have been a boy, but he carried a man’s gun, and he was there to use it. Besides, that ‘boy’ had already been making a name for himself as a killer.”

So is this a new song? I Bit the Sheriff.

Yeah, I can dig it.

Another sad Colorado episode of someone doing the right thing and getting punished for it. The owner of that less-than-convenient store must be looking for a way to go out of business.

Story 1) That’s the world liberals want – no defense of self. You are to just stand there and take it. After all, that criminal was probably higher on the international hierarchy than you are. Protect yourself with a gun? YOU’RE FIRED!

Story 2) Ah guns, the great equalizer.

Story 3) At first, I thought “Seems like a waste of an opportunity to just hold him”. Then I thought “Well, I wasn’t there. We can joke but as the 78 year old said in the second story, it’s hard to take a life”. Then I saw that he bit the officer and was back to “Should have blasted that guy”.

Outcast

0/2/3 Store owner and company are probably Californication types, man should be able to find work at better place, if he had been shot or given up the money he most likely would have been fired. Chicago again, wonder how long it will take cops to find wounded one after all with all the shooting going on in town they probably have a lot of suspects showing up at Hospitals. Bit cop, oh well now cop will need tetanus and rabies shot, from small pic it sure resembles one that shows up on 48 hours often, yep 1 center body mass would have solved problem. Stolen vehicle in Denver last night, ended in shootout as perps tried to escape, 1 was shot by police and captured,2 others were free for a bit but seems one of the escapees shot self accidentally and both caught in short time, cops not injured in shoot out. Well time to batten down the hatches as storm moving in anywhere from 4 to 10 inches and wind expected. Poor day at windows so am gonna stay and dig in.

Tallywhagger

Wonder if there is a wrongful termination cause in action for the store clerk. Alternately, there is no way a 14 year old can lawfully possess a firearm. The clerk may be able to proceed against the parents or owner of the firearm.

Little bastard got gut shot, may he have enduring memories of that moment.

5jc

Liberals have nothing to do with the guy getting fired. Lots of stores have a “no guns, cooperate fully with robbers” policy that has to do with avoiding lawsuits for the clerk shooting people and the clerk being shot.

MI Ranger

Have to agree with 5jc on this one. Most “Convenient” Stores want their employees to act like good little sheep and hand the money over to the “customer”, and wait for the pithing to end all their bad memories. As the lawyer said, there is no legal basis for the wrongful termination, as the employee violated their corporate rules…he can be thankful he is alive and can now find more gainful employment.
On the brighter side https://www.foxnews.com/us/texas-son-fatally-shoots-suspected-home-invader-in-the-head-after-foiled-ransacking FoxNews reported young men in Houston, TX are keeping up their target practice and were able to hit one of three perps allowing him to sleep comfortably on the morticians slab.

Outcast

I wonder how many employee’s are going to get shot and killed after they hand over the money after all they can identify the robber. Big companies do not allow employees to defend them selves nor do they provide protection, policy seems to be tough shit if you die as you are beneath us and we just want money you make us and nothing for you.

Synloy un

it seems to me that if these clerks, tellers, and general retail type people would just offer these misunderstood gone wrong because of societies failure to nurture and love them ,a hug or at least an encouraging word we could all sleep with the sweet warm joy of loving even our enemies and the less fortunate.
Yes I love my pin little perfect world
