Roy King – The “Been Everywhere, Done Everything” Commando

| February 18, 2019

The folks at Military Phony send us their work on this fascinating fellow named Roy Dale King.  He is supposed to be an attorney that has been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, Silver Star and Purple Heart but those don’t even scratch the surface of what this man claims about his military service.

Apparently, Roy has been telling quite the stories to his family members.

This was what was reported about him…

  • Army Special Forces, Green Beret, Army Ranger, Delta Force, Sergeant Major, sniper

  • Congressional Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart that his first wife sold in a yard sale, Expert Rifle, Silver Stars, Gold Stars, Bronze Stars.

  • Trained in Isshinryu

  • Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

  • Attorney – Claims on LinkedIn and Facebook

  • Jumped from a helicopter onto enemy snipers below to save his men and only broke both wrists, all while General (Stormin) Norman Schwarzkopf was in the helicopter.

  • Claims to have been shot three (3) times and stabbed with a bayonet five (5) times.

  • Captured and waterboarded Bin Laden’s driver to pinpoint Bin Laden’s location.

  • He had Bin Laden in his crosshairs when a cease-fire was called

  • Several covert operations – fought alongside SEAL Team Six many times.

I know, I know … that seems like a wee bit much to claim.  I was skeptical too but he has the supporting documents, badges and certificates:

Even though Roy was US Army Special Forces / Green Beret / Delta Force, he also has his “very special” Force Recon ID card.  No real Green Beret/ Delta Force Operator leaves home without a U.S. Marine Corps Special Forces Force RECON card.

Many of his military claims, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, are documented in an interview that he did detailing his military experience.  For those of you that earned it, you may find his explanation of the Air Assault Badge quite interesting.

At the risk of spoiling the story – Roy King was in the U.S. Army Reserve and spent four (4) months on active duty.  His records show no deployments to Nigeria or Vietnam.  It was probably important that you realize that as you watch the following videos.  All thirteen videos are 29:22 in length.

A DD-214 was obtained, which seemed authentic except for the handwritten combat deployments.

The records we obtained directly from the U.S. government via our Freedom of Information request tell a different story than Mr. King seems to remember.

So, according to the official military records, King was a vehicle mechanic and stayed in the Army Reserve from 1969 – 1977, with only his initial four (4) months being active duty.  It appears that the initial four months was for Basic Training and AIT, then he was released back to his reserve unit.

There was no listing of deployment to Vietnam, Nigeria, ODS, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.

He does talk about covert operations, super-secret operations but don’t ya know the Gubbermint forgot to make his record of service secret.  He claims to have served 17 years and 7 months, so even that was hard to pinpoint when he would have had Osama Bin Laden in his cross-hairs.

It seems like such a waste of effort to have had those Navy SEALs go all the way over there to take out Bin Laden when so many of these Bin Bullshittin types already had him in their crosshairs.  In any event, the only video worth watching is the testimony from his dog…Taz.

There I was, first to comment, enemy commenters to the left and right, but due to my covert training and loud alarm clock I was able to comment first before the enemy even knew I was here!

Mustang Major

I could have been first to comment, but let the dogs out first thing. Tip of the hat to you.

You just THOUGHT you were the first commenter. There were others there ahead of you, but they had pencils and paper and had to mail stuff in.

That’s the problem with these losers who claim 30 plus years retiring as an E-9 or or O-6. They use their boot camp graduation photo, along with a never ending supply of generic military photos pickled from Al Gore’s Amazing Internet to prop up their lies, yet they never have any photos of them being promoted or receiving these highly coveted and rarely awarded medals. And you would think that a retiring Sergeant Major who was awarded a Medal Of Honor would warrant a retirement ceremony that would be prominently featured on the front page of the Base newspaper. It’s as if they are not even trying.

That DD214 is at least a couple of generations off from current, this clown isn’t even trying hard. The handwritten combat tours would have raised red flags if he’d presented it to me. I saw a couple doctored DD214s when I was the Vet Service Officer for the town, but they at least put some effort into their attempted BS. Good Lord! In 1991 a FORMER friend of mine, while I and a another fellow soldier were home on leave, claimed the Exact… Same… Thing… about Saddam Hussein during the Gulf War. Keep in mind this is about 6 months after the cease fire. Our stolen valor hero was a reservist who spent some time in Saudi shortly after the cease fire ended.

He forgot to talk about the time he won his second Medal of Honor by parachuting from one helicopter into another helicopter to save Ronald Regan from someone or something. I feel cheated! He had been going on for 30 minutes of course.

“Jumped from a helicopter onto enemy snipers below to save his men and only broke both wrists, all while General (Stormin) Norman Schwarzkopf was in the helicopter.”

— sigh —

And that’s just one of an enviably long list of ol’ Roy-Boy’s spectacular acts of derring-do. It must be difficult to keep track of them all when regaling unsuspecting civilians with these legendary tales of incredible valor.

However, ol’ Roy-Boy here appears to have missed a couple of routine, run-of-the-mill phony claims from the Official TAH Poser 101 Checklist (there may be more that I have missed):

– Why are there no phony claims that he was held as a POW in a “Tiger Cage”, and later killed all of his guards with his bare hands before walking 200 miles through the desert by himself to rejoin friendly forces?

– Shouldn’t there be a least one “Black Ops” mission (records permanently sealed at the direction of POTUS, of course) where he was the sole survivor after his best friend died in his arms?

Ol’ Roy-Boy has certainly put out a strong poser effort here, but his phony story is nowhere near as complete and well-rounded as it could/should be when attempting to participate at this level of varsity play in the Wild Wide World of Poserdom.

You left one out Mick- Sounds like he didn’t develop PTSD with his many harrowing experiences.

2. Monster truck with a tow cable.

3. M88A2 with recovery winch.

We may need clarification on this – did the same guy stick him 5 times or was he stuck on 5 separate occasions?

Did the VC or NVA have bayonets?

Of course he said he had to “keep that one to himself” as to where he was because “I wasn’t supposed to be there.” (that may have been a truthful line – he wasn’t supposed to be there)

rgr769

The VC frequently were armed the the Chicom SKS which had an integral folding bayonet. The AK-47 bayonet is a detachable knife type. I frequently saw captured weapons as a battalion intel officer (S-2); I never saw an AK-47 bayonet. I also might add, I have never heard of any US soldier suffering an enemy inflicted bayonet wound in Vietnam.

“Congressional Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart that his first wife sold in a yard sale, Expert Rifle, Silver Stars, Gold Stars, Bronze Stars.”

Uhhhhm NOPE, it’s a violation of Federal Law to buy or sell a Medal of Honor and that includes replicas. It’s also illegal to possess one unless you’re either the Recipient or a descendant of one.

Sparks

And that is a crying shame Skyjumper. it is also a crime if I remember correctly to sell a MOH of replica thereof.

Skyjumper

It most definitely is, Sparks.

I don’t know how those EBay sellers get away with it.

What bothers me, is how many have purchased the MOH from those sellers (twenty eight on one listing).

A Proud Infidel®™

I would deeply enjoy seeing the sellers get prosecuted and the buyers having the Medals confiscated, WTF is wrong with those people?

IDC SARC

I seem to remember the law saying no new reproductions of the CMOH were authorized, leaving the existing copies (most of the medals are actually copies)unregulated and not subject to confiscation.

Not 100% sure of that, but fairly sure that was the case.

IDC SARC

I see that on EBay the first CMOH (USN)I saw for sale is being sold with a caveat that it is for display purposes only.

Sadly, that may be all the disclaimer necessary.

I see the same shitbaggery is still going regarding selling those asinine blank certificates as well. SSDD

IDC SARC

All the sellers currently offering to sell you a CMOH on eBay axcept 1 also appear to be outside the United States.

I reported the sale to eBay…we’ll see what happens.

Skyjumper

IDC SARC… Back in 1996/97, the company (H.L.I. Lordship Industries Inc. of Hauppauge, N.Y.) who manufactured the MOH for the military, were busted for making at least 300 unauthorized copies & selling them for $75.00 each. Other than fines, they were further barred from any and all government contracts. FBI agent Tom Cottone, whose Newark, N.J., office is in charge of investigating illegal military medal sales and people who fraudulently represent themselves as Medal of Honor recipients. “There are tons of both, unfortunately,” Cottone said in a Monday telephone interview. The black market for the Medal of Honor is bigger than most people suspect, however, thanks to a Long Island, N.Y., company called H.L.I. Lordship Industries. Lordship was the U.S. government’s only authorized manufacturer of the Medal of Honor when its officials began secretly producing hundreds of unauthorized medals and selling them “out the back door,” according to Cottone, who broke the case. In 1996, Lordship officials subsequently pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally manufacturing and selling at least 300 Medals of Honor between 1991 and 1994. But a statute of limitations kept the FBI from prosecuting Lordship for selling unauthorized medals before 1991, Cottone said. FBI agents suspect that “there are far in excess of 300” medals on the black market, Cottone said. Sterner, who “works hand in hand” with Cottone to get the unauthorized medals off the street, estimated that as many as 900 could be on the black market. Cottone was monitoring Friday’s eBay sale of a Medal of Honor, which was offered by “inyrfc,” a London-based seller who said in the site description that his was one of the Lordship medals. “This medal would be illegal to sell in the USA and as such are almost impossible to find for sale!!” the bidder wrote in his description. Sixteen separate bidders battled one another for the medal, which was eventually won by “dougsjourney,” who paid more than $2,200. Neither the seller nor the buyer responded to Stripes’ e-mailed requests for an interview. It’s doubtful that the buyer of Friday’s medal will ever see it, Cottone said.… Read more »

I’m thinking inyrfc is an abbreviation of In Your Face. If so I’m also thinking this turd is an asshole. He should have some medals shoved up his ass. You’re a fucking loser, selling those medals. You obviously have little understanding of their true meaning to veterans.

IDC SARC

No word from ebay…but the medal is no longer listed for sale.

Skyjumper

IDC SARC, most likely what happened is that after you contacted eBay about the US seller, eBay automatically closed the auction because it was prohibited item being sold, and then they most likely warned the seller about never trying to relist it again.

I would say to make sure, check back on the seller to see if had been relisted and if so, notify eBay again.

Great job, IDC SARC.

Or if he has even acknowledged his lies and confessed his true military service..

Sparks

Another Pat, both you and John may be voices of reason here. I don’t know. I do know what he has done, with volition. If they had had Video Number 14 about “Your Time In The Psych Ward”. I would have responded differently. I remember friends from my service time and those since who are not here to speak of their valor nor defend their units and awards from these types of people. I hope that is the service TAH and Military Phony serve. I’d like to say I love these goofy bastards when they are goofy bastards but I can’t.

26Limabeans

Psych or no somebody should have stopped him long ago. That he ends up in the SV community is sad but at least TAH puts an end to it. Sometimes. Maybe.

AnotherPat

26Limabeans:

Agree with you that someone should had stopped him a long time ago.

Sadly, we have seen familiy members (or sock puppets) as well as friends defending someone who either lied or embellish their military service. Perhaps they were in denial that a family member deceived them or that they really want to believe the liar’s stories.

Have seen this numerous times when families learn after the fact based on obituary write ups that their Husband/Father/Uncle, etc WAS NOT a POW, DID NOT receive a MOH, DSC, PH, Navy or Air Cross, etc. etc. It is a bit heartbreaking.

Yes, public shaming from those not related to the individual seems to be effective. But as you stated, even TAH can sometimes or perhaps maybe end an embellisher’s bogus story. Sadly, there are folks out there who HAVE been exposed on TAH and they still continue to rock their lies or continue with their unstable mental behavior. I do believe Frank V. is one of them. DAB, DGW, Frank D. are other examples.

They will probably go to their graves never admitting their lies…DAB already did.

Green Thumb

Or stomped on him a long time ago.

That works too.

AnotherPat

Thank You, Sparks, for sharing your feelings on King and his crazy stories. You always provide strong insight on folks such as King. Always appreciate your feedback on this type of behavior.

Yes, King did dishonor those who really went to Vietnam or received the MOH or other valor awards with his tall tales and phony accomplishments. What he did is a slap to the face of alot of Veterans or their families, especially to those relatives who may have lost their love one and never returned.

As with other Stolen Valor individuals or those who choose to embellish their military service or awards: Only they can explain their actions. Am not defending King for his poor behavior. It’s just that after reading King’s court document/police report, I came to the conclusion that he was or perhaps still is mentally unstable…and may have been that way before he did that interview.

Hopefully, if he has been directed to take the right path, King WILL ackowledge his BS WITHOUT any excuses and offer a SINCERE apology for stealing valor. If he is still in denial or won’t come clean with his lies, then I have no symphathy for him. Some people cannot be helped and King may be one of them.

Thank you again, Sparks.

Sparks

Thank you Another Pat for your kind words. You are a true voice of reason and I appreciate it. I was not coming down on you or John at all. Please know that for sure. I just get to thinking of those I barely knew but still loved and lost in Vietnam and many young folks since. My emotions run hot quickly and I do so often need a bit of alternate perspective when I have missed something. In this man’s case, I don’t think we missed anything though. Just MHO.

AnotherPat

Sparks, what is wonderful about TAH is that we can share our own unique perspectives and thought process on a topic with one another.

I learn alot when I read other folks comments, to include yours. Thank You!

I did not think you were coming down on anyone. You shared about losing folks in Vietnam…which ties in to King falsely saying he served in Vietnam. And just as you, I was expressing my own opinion about King. When I discovered his court records, my perspective on him changed a bit, that is, I contributed his crazy stories as well as claims to Valor Awards as being someone whose brain had a hiccup.

Hopefully, he has not or will not repeat this behavior. His credibilty with family, friends, neighbors, community may be shot due to his fantasy stories. It will be up to him to confront his own lies and tell the truth, that is, if he is now capable of distiguishing reality from his alternate realty world. Who knows…TAH may be his wakeup call if he is still in his dreamland.

Thank You again, Sparks.

P.S. As Poetrooper expressed, I feel sorry for his dog, Taz.

*smile*

Poetrooper

I think I’m going to side with John and Pat on this one–King’s obviously not playing with a full deck. So while we’re having a lot of fun here with all his fantastic fabulizing, it’s akin to poking sticks at the village idiot. King is simply too easy a target for there to be any real sport in taking him down. He lacks the cunning we find in the true deceivers, the ones who truly deserve to be disgraced and destroyed. He clearly has no real knowledge of all the topics and events he spins his fables around.

Do we have any evidence that King is rocking all these ridiculous claims for personal gain or public glory? A vest? A Harley? If not, then I say we just ignore the fat old fart and let him continue to sit there in his lounger with his booze and regale poor Taz with his tales of false derring-do.

That’s who truly deserves our sympathy–can you imagine how many times that poor dog has had to listen to all these silly bullshit war stories?

Poetrooper

Pat, apparently you wrote that response to Sparks while I was writing my above comment. I’m afraid I can’t agree with your saying King may be mentally unstable but you have no sympathy for him. If he’s mentally impaired how can we expect him to “come clean?” Mental impairment is usually associated with disassociation from reality so I think such an expectation of King is unrealistic.

Hey, if he goes public, follows the usual path of SV types, tries to gain personally from his bullshit, then I’ll condemn him to the fullest–might even go confront him personally, as he lives just up the road–but lacking any such public display, I think it’s best just to ignore this fellow.

AnotherPat

Thank you, Poetrooper for a second set of eyes.

What I said was that if King has overcome his mental condition since 2013, i.e. is no longer mentally unstable, that hopefully he will come clean and ackowledge to others he told lies without offering excuses on his behavior and that he offers a sincere, honest apology for stealing valor.

However, if he has overcome his mental illness and knows that he has lied, yet won’t come clean with his wild stories, then I have no symphathy for him.

Does that make sense what I wrote?

akpual

Makes sense, I wonder if anyone ever completely overcome mental illness

AnotherPat

akpual, that is a good question. Perhaps King did get some professional help after he was involuntary committed. Don’t know the rest of the story, i.e. if he nows know what he did when he gave that false interview.

I guess time can only tell.

IDC SARC

The voices in my can’t agree one way another on that akpual.

Poetrooper

I understand that you’re trying to be fair but the reality is that just listening to those divorced from reality videos tells me this senior citizen has some mental issues that aren’t likely to be corrected at his advanced age. His clumsy, almost childish, attempts to forge documents and awards supports the suspicion that he’s not quite right and lacking the true scheming treachery of so many SV types.

All I’m saying is TAH has had far bigger fish to fry than this character and will to continue to have in the future. We aren’t in any danger of running out of genuine ass-wipes who need to have their dishonesty exposed and shamed.

1stCavRVN11B

I don’t know Poe. How many years prior to getting caught did he run these lies? He knew damn well when he somehow got into the reserve in ‘69 where most of the troops from Ft Polk we’re headed. After reading further down seems he’s closed his book of face. Maybe he’s had the guilt all these years and it actually drove him nuts.

Graybeard

I’m with you, Poe.

AFCombatCAM

The dudes wife is claiming that he’s abusing his medication (for PTSD) with alcohol. Trazodone is an antidepressant used to treat anxiety and insomnia. After reading the police report it appears this guy is completely insecure, an alcoholic, and an asshole. My sympathy for this guy is nil to none. And this is without all of his bullshit military claims. Fuck this guy.

Pretty well explains why Kings Buffet went broke here in town. Always did wonder why they had that chair with casters and extra large table spoon off to the side of the serving area.

rgr769

Holee Frack! I remember this dude. There I was in the Battle of Mekong Valley. I was in a rifle company of the 2nd Infantry Division (secretly moved form Korea to RVN). We wuz getting’ killed right and left. General Norman Swartzkopf’s chopper suddenly flew in and this steely-eyed SF Force Recon Ranger jumped out and started killing the Cong right and left that were about to over run our position. But for him we wuz all gonna die. Later, SGM (he was field promoted to SGM from Motor Sgt. that day) King came to see me in the 91st Evac as I lay severely wounded from being bayoneted by a NVA/North Korean soldier. Many of us had been bayoneted in that battle (most died of their bayonet wounds–its a strange feeling when you die, according to the SGM). Thank God they pulled him off that critical mission guarding the ammo dump to save us. I will never forget this hero of the Battle of Mekong Valley; it was way worser than the Battle of Macho Grande (which is also seared, yes, seared into my memory). Thank God we have men like him who later served in SOCOM’s secret CIA unit of Force Recon Rangers or we would be praying to Allah five times a day with our asses in the air. Where do we find such men in ‘Murica?

5th/77th FA

Legit I say and remember all of it very well. I had just been promoted to Gunga Din’s Water Buffalo’s groomer. (it was a buffalo made of water). I collated all of Killer King’s awards orders while charles w used the legendary red swingline to staple them together. We deployed from the Mekong Valley fight to Macho Grande Gulch. We had some beers with Brandi and Sherri. Still not over it.

rgr769

I was put in for a Silver Star for my combat service in the Battle of Macho Grande, but all I got was an “attaboy” from the battalion commander as I was convalescing from yet another series of bayonet wounds suffered in close quarter battle.

rgr769

I should add that the only thing that kept my in that deadly fight at Macho Grande was the inspiration I received from my experience with Killer King at Mekong Valley. I kept thinking “Yea, low we walk in the shadow of death in the Mekong Valley, we shall fear no evil and not despair, but shall triumph over the commies.” The SMaj taught me that when he visited me at the evac hospital; he wuz quite a combat philosopher as well.

Sparks

The greatest achievement to come from the Battle of Mekong Valley was this, not one single round of 5.56 was lost to the enemy from the ammo dump. Nuf said. Thanks for your service there rgr768. It must have been rough trying to keep up with King. I can’t imagine the nightmares and emotional scars it left.

Daisy Cutter

Absolutely. The famous Ammo Dump backfill to the Battle of Mekong Valley is nothing short of legendary. The strategy and maneuvers used that day are often cited as a classic example of small-unit tactics and leadership in overcoming a larger enemy force. It has become a vital part of the warfighter’s curriculum at West Point.

I was never “over” Macho Grande because I was on the ground trying to fulfill the warrior ethos I learned from SGM “Killer” King. Only real deal aircrew like AW1 were actually over Macho Grande. You know, there was a secret NVA submarine base in the bay of Macho Grande.

He did, however, squeal like a piggy while receiving a dishonorable discharge.

Did quick search and have not found anything as to any military service by Ned Beatty but did find Warren Beatty was booted from Air Force Nat guard and Reserves. Must have been a royal screw up to get dishonorable from a Guard unit of any kind.

These posers want to be famous so we try to find some fame in their appearance. Quite a few dead ringers have been featured here.
Ned Beatty is a great actor and would probably feel honored at his mention.

The Stranger

You know, I seem to recall there was some sort of scuffle going on in some far off land when he darkened that Army recruiter’s door back in 1969. He could have chosen to enlist active duty and volunteered for that dust-up in the Far East with the cheerful assistance of said recruiter. That would have provided him with the opportunity to earn some of those awards he’s falsely claiming. And yes, I truly feel sorry for that poor dog!

I do have a friend who will be 92 June9,2019 has 3 CIB-WW2,Korea,and Vietnam. Also DSC and multiple other awards and also a glider pilot and Ranger. His name is Regis Blair and lives in Columbus,Ga -He and SGM served together in Korea. Oh by the way he to is a retired CSM and retired 1973 .

AnotherPat

Hi, Jeff.

I can’t find Regis Blair listed as having three CIBs:

https://m.facebook.com/pages/category/Community/TripleCIB/posts/

Can you please assist?

Thank You!

rgr769

Bullshit, Jeffery, the fake SGM King never left the continental US. Moreover, King never earned any CIB, let alone three. King didn’t even have a combat MOS; he was a motor sergeant in a reserve engineer unit. King spent a total of four months on active duty for training only. If your 3 CIB pal claims he served in Korea with King, he is likely a phony as well.

AnotherPat

Jeff,

Was your friend a Boxer in the US Army with the Boxing Team?

Also, perhaps he gave you the wrong year for his birthday? So far, all sources I found on him have him being born 9 June 1928.

If he was a WWII Vet, he would have been 16 years old when WWII ended in Europe, 17 when the war ended in August 1945 in Japan.

I found several Stars and Stripes articles from 1948 to 1954 where a Regis Blair was a Lightweight Boxer with the US Army Boxing team. This Blair was stationed in the Far East after WWII.

Do you think that could possibly be him?

Thank You, Jeff.

AnotherPat

Hi, Jeff:

I can’t find a Regis Blair as being a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross.

Can you please assist by providing which conflict he was in that resulted in him receiving this award?

Thank You.

rgr769

All you will hear back from this dude is crickets.

HMC Ret

I find it very sad that old, real veterans find it necessary to thoroughly crap on their career, whether they served a few months or several decades. Is it an attempt to live a life they never had? I guess so. Either that or they are low life rat fuckers, but usually the really old veterans (this guy was born in 28?) seem to have sufficient pride in what they really did that they don’t find it necessary to embellish. This guy seems to be an exception to that. At least that is what I take away from all this.
This isn’t coming across very clear b/c it’s difficult for me to understand their motivation, to wrap my mind around their behavior. I think I did it better yesterday when I made one of the last comments about King, the guy with 4 months active who was interviewed and laid down a never-ending line of bullshit.
As they get older, they sometimes lose touch with reality. Well, that’s my take about this. YVMV

AnotherPat

I noticed that Jeffery Monroe has been a frequent commentator on TAH…and his comment about his friend, Regis Blair had me scratching my head, thus the reason I asked him those questions.

I don’t know “the Rest of the Story” on his friend, i.e. if Mr. Blair was born in 1927 versus 1928, that he served in WWII, that he had 3 CIBs and that he is a DSC recepient. I was curious and did some quick research…and found some different information.

IF Mr. Blair is embellishing, he is not the first “older”, i.e. born in the mid to late 1920s, individual to do this. Have seen several other similiar cases…the embellishers were not seeking a monetary benefit, but rather recognition.

Hopefully, Jeff may be able to provide some more information on his friend. If not, I will drop it.

I can’t find great fault with a valor thief who I feel is not capable of understanding the gravity and extent of their actions. I’ll be the first to condemn and throw under the bus one who obviously (I THINK) knows better but is acting the thief for the purpose of self aggrandizement. These slugs who present with imagined self-importance, the pretend SEALs, Rangers, MoH Recipients, Service Cross, etc? I don’t give two shits for them. This guy? Maybe I’m wrong. All I can bring to the subject is an imperfect understanding of his motivation, but I honestly can’t condemn him for what I believe are behaviors outside his scope of understanding. I truly hope I’m wrong, because I wouldn’t want to live in his head if he is mentally ill and removed from reality. I would rather be a valor thief than have a serious mental defect. I would …

It’s obvious other feel differently and that’s fine. We don’t need to exist in an echo chamber.

Daisy Cutter

This guy is like that crazy uncle you have in your family that nobody takes seriously.

It is fair game, IMHO, to make fun of his stories since they were not well thought out.

I’d love to see an interview of stolen valor phonies “baring their soul” but the problem with that is they are all liars… every one of them. How do you know if you are getting something authentic about their motivations or them giving you what they think you want to hear?

I believe that once you get to a certain age you get comfortable with yourself, and they probably get comfortable with lying. It is something they trust. To tell the truth and have people maybe accept you has to be learned and trusted. To a liar, this is the equivalent of walking out on thin ice – it would be against their nature and a shaky feeling.

Can they change their ways? Maybe – if they stand to lose their wife, job or are facing extreme consequences. A pure change of heart simply for the sake of trying to take a new path would be extremely rare in my opinion.
