Illegal aliens to lose $40 billion worth of public assistance
The benefits that could be obtained in the US help motivate many foreigners to illegally cross into our border. Without much effort beyond travelling, they could go from living in the corrupt and poverty conditions of their home countries to living like royalty “just for existing”. The Trump administration is about to remove that as an incentive. Illegal aliens are set to lose access to assistance programs intended for Americans who truly need to benefit from these programs.

“This bill protects Medicaid… for those who truly deserve this program, the needy, pregnant women, children and sick Americans who physically cannot work. It ensures that able-bodied Americans who can work 20 hours a week are actually doing so, and that will therefore strengthen and protect those benefits for Americans who need it,” Leavitt told reporters during a White House briefing last month.
Leavitt added that the measure will address “waste, fraud and abuse” and remove approximately 1.4 million illegal immigrants from the program.
“It is perfectly reasonable for taxpayers who are paying into the Medicaid program to insist that everyone in the program who can contribute do so, by working,” Michael Cannon, Director of Health Policy Studies at the Cato Institute, previously told FOX Business.
The bill asks Medicaid members who are able-bodied, prime-age adults without children to work or volunteer roughly 20 hours a week.
Nina Schaefer, the director of the Center for Health and Welfare Policy at the Heritage Foundation, described the Medicaid provisions as “common sense administrative changes.”
“The Medicaid program is over 60 years old and has been running on autopilot for far too long. These changes begin to bring much needed oversight, transparency, and accountability to the program,” Schaefer said.

The new problem is that smaller hospitals will go broke from a few patients they won’t be able to get rid of.
I see the smaller hospitals that have been abusing the system going broke. The ones doing it the correct way will absorb the ones that have been milking the system.
Yes, there will be some adjustment time involved, but we didn’t get to where we are now in the past week.

A couple of no pay patients can bankrupt a small hospital. I’ve seen it happen. The ones that are “milking the system” are usually the very large hospital systems run by corporations that know well how to maximize profits and have little moral compunction or filter.
Yeah, this really doesn’t fix anything. Hospitals will still have to provide care for them, and get no reimbursement. It’s a short sighted move, that will make things worse long term. Can’t say for sure how many, but I suspect some hospitals will close because of this. If you had a business, that had to do work for customers regardless if they paid or not, how long would you stay in business?
The key word here is “illegal”.

Friday two weeks ago trip to the ER, with no admission to the hospital, was nearly $10K. Next Friday’s PET scan is a two parter bill, nearly another $10K for the scan and pert near $5K for “hospital services”. Co-pay on those 2 are estimated to be $600 and change. No clue what the oncologist is gonna want.
A plane ticket to Mexico, then about $5k to a coyote to get you across the border so that you can claim illegal status- might be cheaper!

Got a spot on the right air bag, and another on the liver and spleen, so we know that ain’t real good news. Not looking for a pity party, I’ve had a good run and I plan on “head butting the hangman” when the time comes. Hell, somebody’s got to hang around this place and be a burr under our Beloved AW1 Ed’s saddle. You do know that trophy wife of his spoils him, right?
This thread seemed to be as good a place as any to throw it out there since every medico place I’ve been to in the last few weeks has had a “Financial Navigator” to discuss how I’ll be paying for “treatments”. I’ve told each one of them to get what they can from Medicare and Humana and then they can send me a bill. The bitch of it all is the co-pays they nail you for before they’ll do any testing or treatments. More than 3/4ths of the ‘patients” in the ER that day were obvious “welfare queens” and “illegals”. Wonder how many of them had “Financial Navigators” come by?

And having seen a glimpse of The Peace that passeth All Understanding, I ain’t skeered. Made mention to the medicos the other day when I was being introduced to Sir Perc Of Cet that if a visit to Lord Morpheous got me a sniff of Mama’s cat headed biskets, cubed beef beast, rice with brown gravy and Fruit Cocktail Cake, I wasn’t coming back. Nurse Brown Sugar Good Body knew exactly what I was talking about. She promised me BBQ’d Baby Backs, greens with ham hocks, tater salad, cornbread (yes…sans sugar), and peach cobbler if I would hang around at least until the scan was done.
My GF just finished up her Cancer treatment and it is looking good.
But $24,000 in bills. The older you get the harder and more expensive it is to stay alive. Good luck with the fight.

Sorry to hear this KoB. Between MediCare and TriCare for Life I haven’t really been concerned about the costs, as they seem to have covered everything (so far.).
My HouseWolf had to have emergency surgery for Gastric dilatation volvulus (bloat) in early June and he/I are self-insured. He is doing well now.
My surgical oncologist is a professor at Mercer’s Med school. Apparently, latest guy my daughter has been dating. mother is an oncologist (chemo) in Albany.
Yeah, Mercer and Emory are fighting it out for the Med School bragging rights lately. “Practicing medicine…” And we are the lab rats that they “practice” on.
Effective 1 July Emory has taken over the local hospital where my wife works.
During your time in the Army, you were used to practice on if your Doctor was a Captain. They had completed a residency so were not fully trained. The standard joke around the Air Force was that was why so many Flight Surgeon were Captains so the majority of their patients were healthy.
Hang tough KOB, fight it every way you can, so you can spend every second you can with your grands, pass on to the grands anything that will help them along the way.

Aww..(kicks rock)…shucks, Steve1371, I appreciate them kind words. I was only able to lurk around on this site for years until I got my laptop after the 1st stroke in 2018. Ma Bell frowned on using company computers for web surfing and absolutely no commenting allowed. TAH Family really helped me thru that initial recovery period and gave me a nice life line to hang on to. Everyone here is a hero in my book.

It has been my Sacred Honor and Duty to “say their names…and…be their witness…” at many a Service. I’ve been told that I’m good at it.
