Arrest made after gun battle, violent attack inside restaurant near LSU
By: Trey Schmaltz
BATON ROUGE – New details were released about a violent altercation at a restaurant just off the LSU campus that ended in a gunfight recently.WBRZ obtained details through an arrest report filed at the jail after a suspect was arrested related to a shooting at the Taco Bell on Burbank Drive in January. Derrick Ricard, 24, was booked into jail on attempted murder, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal use of weapons.
Police said Ricard targeted the victim in what appears to have been an unknown, ongoing dispute between the two.
The shooting followed the victim being attacked inside the store by unknown attackers who left the restaurant before the gunfire, police said.
For about 30 minutes, the victim was watched, beaten and fired at before midnight on January 21. At first, police said, the victim was jumped by two larger men inside the store. As the unknown attackers were stomping and punching the victim on the ground, police said Ricard walked out of the restaurant and into the parking lot where he retrieved a gun.
Police said Ricard, who is an employee at the restaurant, waits behind the counter as the victim went from inside the restaurant to outside, then back inside to collect his clothing that fell off during the assault.

The shooting followed an unrelated incident a week earlier and next door where gunfire near Mellow Mushroom caused chaos and panic in a packed parking lot. As groups fled, a person trying to drive out of the lot got caught in the crowd and was attacked as she knocked people over and bumped into cars. The driver was beaten, and her car damaged by the scared mob.

Come on people, more range time! Not a single DRT for today! What would it take to get a four fecta for the morning box score, is it too much to hope for? More range time people, more range time!
Looks like my old Anaconda but much shinier. Definitely gun pRON 🙂
4 of a kind still pays off pretty good, I’ll take that. May use some of my winning to get Mrs. WV a larger caliber.
Baton Rouge?? Dahell??? Only sense I could make of it is maybe Trey Schmaltz had hisself about three schooners of malt before he wrote that. Calling Sister Mary Grace, help us, you are our only hope.
Vegas gonna have more openings for the choir.
And yes ‘Ed, That IS gun pr0n!! fapfapfapfapfap
Good to see Wilted Willy FIRST thing in the AM. Hope you’re doing better Brother. Now if we could just find out about Jeff.
There’s something kinda hot about Granny drawing down with a .22 WMR. I wonder what she said after she dropped him. I bet it wasn’t “Oh my”.
GDContractor,
Probably something similar to the ol’ lady pulled over by the State Trooper:
Trooper: Good evening Ma’am, I pulled you over fro a defective taillight. I have to ask if there is a firearm in the vehicle?
Ol’ Lady: Yes Officer, I have a .38 revolver in the glove box
Trooper: (Something tells me to ask if there are any more) Ma’am, do you have any other firearms in the vehicle?
Ol’ Lady: Yes Officer, there is a 9mm in the seat holster under the driver seat
Trooper: (something about the way she said it tells me to ask again) Ma’am, do you have another firearm in the vehicle?
Ol’ Lady: Yes Officer, I have a .40 Glock in a belly band
Trooper: Ok, I have to ask one more time…do you have any other firearms in your vehicle?
Ol’Lady: Yes Officer, I have a .45 Derringer in my purse…or do you mean the shotgun under the back seat?
Trooper: Ma’am what are you afraid of?
Ol’ Lady: Not a gosh darn thing…not a gosh darn thing!
Thanks Brother, feeling much better after oral surgery last week!
I get sick every time I see a picture of a Colt Python. I had one and sold it. It was a standard 6” model ($280) purchased from the gun store at Mainz Kassel (outside of Wiesbaden, then West Germany) in 1979. I also bought a 4” Colt Diamondback ($220) and a Colt Government Model .45 ($230?) Later, back in the states, I sold the two revolvers (along with a SW Model 29) as they were more painful to clean than the .45. Fast forward to a couple of years ago, I see a beat up Python for sale at $3,800. Come to find out everyone wants one as they are out of production.
One of my rules of life- Don’t sell your guns or guitars.
I did not know Mainz Kastel sold guns…knew they had a great Electronics/Stereo store, but all that was gone by the time I got there in 1998!
Yep, totally agree. Never sell a gun…unless it is defective. I had a 92F I bought from a Pawn Shop that I don’t regret returning after someone pointed out it s barrel was a little too free floating…not my aim (phew).
Mustang, was the Robert E. Lee Barracks still a U.S. military base in Mainz-Gonsonheim in 1979? Two battalions of the 509th Inf. were there in 1971.
rgr769- Lee Barracks was still there at the time. One of the 8th ID Brigades was stationed there. BG Norman Schwarzkopf was the assistant division commander and Mainz community commander for a while. (I was at Weisbaden Air Base.). I understand the 509th left in the early ‘70s for Italy.
Back in my time there (1969-1970), the First Airborne Brigade of the 8th ID was garrisoned there. We were the Quick Reaction Force for NATO via our paratroop capability. That capability was demonstrated in an exercise in Norway in 1969 when we jumped a reinforced infantry battalion and the Brigade HQ and support units into Norway. Watched 23 C-130’s in trail for the drop. Never seen so many parachutes in air at the same time.
My dad was stationed at Mainz Kastel 51 to 55 in the Air Force print shop. Met my Mother up in the Taunus Hills. Promised her nylons and chocolate. 5 kids and 49 years of marriage. She’s still living and healthy. Dad passed in 03. They were married in Englische Kapelle in Wiesbaden Kur park
Wiesbaden is a a great place. I dated some German women, but they were smart enough to pass on me. Your dad must have been something special Herbert.
I have visited twice since I left in ‘82. Not much left of the US military there now. Most of the housing has been turned over to the Germans. I took my wife there on the last visit. Went to show her the officer’s club on the airbase. Shouldn’t have done that, as it is now the community conference center. A civilian that worked there asked if I wanted to see the inside of the facility. I said “sure, wouldn’t mind seeing the old officer’s club.” I was promptly told it was never an officers club. American Arms hotel/BOQ has been scraped away also. Glad I have my memories.
I do know about selling guitars.
It comes down to which ones I was least emotionally involved with. Had a D-45 for 2.5 years. When those times came, that one went first. Absolutely beautiful guitar. Even after playing for 25+ years, I took it to multiple guitar people for advice. Could never get the humidity levels right. It was a bad day in Nazareth, I guess. More trouble then it was worth. Did pay living expenses for 4 months.
Sold 6 or 7 others that were pretty and sounded great, but not a whole lot of blood and guts involvement there.
The 00-18 vintage and the Gibson Blues King were a bit painful.
My D-41. That fucker still hurts. My favorite of all.
Good day to all.
But were you feelin’ ’bout half-past dead afterwards? (smile)
so tired…
I just need to find a place where I can lay my head
Mister can you tell me where a man might find a bed?
He just grinned and shook my hand and “No” was all he said
Take a load off, Fanny..
Thanks, Gentlemen.
…put the load right on me…
A drunkard’s dream if I ever did see one.
Wow, for some reason I woke up to that song running through my head this morning.
It’s a sign I tell you, a sign !!!
Nickel plated Annaconda?
Man that is one high class pimp gun.
I wanna see what the owner drives for a car.
Hmmmm. That’s not a Sig is it? (OWB ducks.)
Meanwhile, the only thing I understand in that Baton Rouge story are the words Mellow Mushroom. And there is something wrong with the notion that the guy’s clothes fell off him during a gun fight. Or something.
AW, that is some great looking pr0n. That Python is a rare bird. Nickel plating was uncommon and with those medalioned grips, this gun may have been finished in Colt’s Custom Shop. Actually, after enlarging your photo, I am suspecting that this Colt is an Anaconda, in .44 or .45 caliber, making it even more valuable.
