Sheriff: Man dead in Monroe County home invasion
Monroe County deputies found a man dead early this morning in what is being described as a home invasion.
MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – Monroe County deputies found a man dead early this morning in what is being described as a home invasion.
Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says this incident happened on Reeves Drive. This is between Amory and Becker off Highway 25.
He says a man kicked in the door to a home there sometime near 1 a.m.
Cantrell identified the man as Andrew Culver, 38.
The residents woke up after hearing growling noises. The male homeowner found Culver in the kitchen, Cantrell said.
Cantrell says the homeowner warned Culver with a shotgun and ordered him to get on the floor.
Culver complied. The homeowner told Culver that law enforcement was responding, Cantrell said.
He says Culver then got off the ground and charged at the homeowner. He says the homeowner shot Culver with the gun.
Cantrell says Culver was dead when deputies arrived.

Warning shots? He’s doing it wrong.
Father pulls own gun and fires warning shot to scare off men trying to rob his son at gunpoint… suspects later arrested
By: Robert Bastille
The following details are according to a Barnstable Police report filed today in Barnstable District Court:HYANNIS – Yesterday evening – Wednesday, January 9, 2019 – at about 7:15 p.m., Barnstable Police responded to 411 Main Street for a report of a firearm being shown during an armed robbery.
Investigating officers learned that a juvenile had been trying to sell his iPhone for $450, via some type of online app.
Arrangements were made via Snapchat for an individual to purchase the iPhone outside of the young man’s address.
Just prior to 7:15 p.m., a vehicle pulled in front of the seller’s home and backed in so the vehicle was facing toward the driveway’s exit.
When the seller – a 15-year-old boy – approached the rear passenger window and showed his iPhone , the buyer pulled a white framed handgun from his waistline and pointed it at him.
Startled and in fear for his life, the boy ran away from the vehicle shouting “gun!” And while looking back, the young man tripped and fell to the ground right after noticing the man still pointing the handgun at him…
When boy’s father witnessed his child fall to the ground shouting “gun,” he pulled his own gun and fired a “warning shot” into the air, effectively causing the robber’s vehicle to immediately flee the driveway in an unknown direction.
The young man still had his iPhone…
(HN NOTE: According to court documents, the boy’s father had a valid License to Carry Firearms.)

Today’s score is a disappointing 1 / 3 / 0. If Dad had aimed his rounds instead of… *sigh* Never mind. The planets will align, TAH’ers. A trifecta will come.

Thanks, 11B.
Take that, ya pedophilic bastard *spits*
Now, as to the Graphic posted above:
Note the blatant distortion. They only contrast -homicides-, events ending in at least one human death. They completely conceal the reality. The -vast- majority of defensive uses of firearms do not result in death. Many do not even include gunfire. The perp backs off or surrenders when faced with an armed would-be victim
Whoops. We were not supposed to see that deception.
The victim-disarmnament crowd tends to do the same comparison with suicides, dead versus dead.
And sometimes they go further, all violent attacks versus only defensive killings, and all suicide attempts versus defensive killings. Called out for -that- treachery, they apparently “came clean” with just “murder vs defensive kill” distortion.
If their position was factual or just, why lie via distortion and omission?
It’s the VPC. Lying and obfuscating, it’s what they do, it’s how they breath.
I’d want a second and third impartial verification if the VPC told me the sun rose in the east and set in the west, that water is wet and fire is hot.
You know what would be great? Showing that graphic along with one for some of the other main causes of death in the US:
614,000 Heart disease
592,000 Cancer
200,000+. Medical malpractice
147,000 Respiratory diseases
136,000 Accidents
134,000 Stroke
93,000 Alzimers
76,000 Diabetes
55,000 Influenza
48,000 Kidney disease
43,000. Suicide
8,000. Firearm deaths (criminal) *according to VPC
I guess this would not have the effect that the “Violence Policy Center” was going for.
Drug Abuse.gov
Yup. I was coming back to add it it when I saw your comment. Thanks for keeping me honest, AW1Ed!
Certainly not a question of your honesty, Bim. Just an oversight, nothing more; glad to help.
I’m not sure, but I’m betting there are several Democrats who have found a way to blame guns for drug deaths…. (The gun made me OD on drugs! It said to do heroin, honest!)
Can’t be in the drug business without guns. Take away the guns and you stop the drug business. /s
How’s that for liberal logic?
medical malpractice and mistakes appear to account for more than 250,000 just in hospitals.
Johns Hopkins estimates the total to be near 440,000.
Every medical error death was 100% preventable according to our benevolent government’s take on accidents–“all accidents are preventable”.
What might be very enlightening would be to find out how many of the medical deaths are directly caused by government intrusion into the health care industry through stupid insurance mandates, confiscation of hospitals, and inefficiencies in processes.
I do like how they cite their own “analysis” as proof. Like how Hillary was saying during one of the debates that if you want to “fact check” some of Trump’s claims, to go to her website. Cause that site will be totally non-partisan and unbiased, right?
Because yo, donations.
Having had my life saved twice by a gun and no shots ever fired, I can attest to the no shots fired scenario.
Most of the pukes see that and unless they are armed they head off into the sunset…
Needless to say, I am a strong proponent of the Second Amendment and write a gun blog that deals with the politics of guns mostly.
Of course there are regular foray’s into other good things too… Like GunPorn, BulletBabes, (semi clothed ladies that might have guns in their hands) BulletStuds for the ladies, and a few generic posts just for the hell of it that poke fun or give solid support to the Veteran’s of the Military across the world.
I have over 2500 fans too…
Believe it or not…
Even if their presented data were all-encompassing & truthful, all it really highlights is that in 2013 there were 7,838 violent criminals willing to end your life for varying reasons & 211 citizens who were prepared to defend themselves at-all-costs.
Of course, without a gun-in-hand those folks willing to slaughter others for personal gain would likely have re-routed their lives to become doctors & engineers…we all know the gun makes the murderer just like the hammer makes the carpenter and the pen makes the writer.
The real question is: which bar on the graph do you want to land on?
Good point. Until that violent criminal number goes down to zero, I’ll keep my guns thank you very much.
Miss: “Culver’s 5th run in with the law.” Well his crime career is over. So is his drain on the taxpayers.
Hyannis: Dindus no carry permit? Doesn’t MA have laws against that? The only warning my shot will give is when the projectile penetrates your sorry ass. We’ll hear from those two again, betcha betcha.
Omaha: “Police tazed him and it had no effect, he pulley the wire loose”. Damn a tazer. You start preaching to these meth heads from The Gospel of Brother John Moses Browning, specifically Revelations Chapter 19 Verse 11, there is no wire to pull loose.
“If Dad had of aimed….” Yes, you’d a had the trifecta that we have been needing. There were two dirtbags in the car. You on my property, pulling a gun on my young’un? Prosecutors can bring all the charges they want too; It takes a jury of my peers to bring a conviction.
11B linkie: Dirtbag got what was coming to him, albeit, won’t bring the little girl back, and he had too much extra oxygen stealing time. Hope it hurt the SOB the whole time the beating to death was happening. I have some Christian Faith. I do not have any forgiveness for people that hurt Children. I especially would not have any forgiveness for someone who raped and murdered my little girl.
That -is- a profound challenge from the Savior. To forgive.
I am a work-in-progress on that point.
Remember, He only said to turn the other cheek once.
Arguably, the strike to the cheek referenced is -insult-, not damage.
He advised the purchase of a sidearm. (Sword – The Gladius was the “sidearm” of the Legions.) I doubt He meant asl belt-ballast.
“Love your enemies” is kinda direct.
But I doubt very much one can interpret Scripture to mean “Leave human predators loose to prey on children.” Theologically, that seems …. a doubtful conclusion.
Folks that forgive the monsters that destroy their own kids have far better grasp of Grace than I have so far managed. I can understand it intellectually, though my wrath calls for timbers, hammer, and nails for the monster.
If we want forgiveness and justice, we must also practice them as we want them.
“Vengeance is mine saith the Lord”. “The Lord works in mysterious ways, His wonders to behold.”
I, too, am a work in progress on the whole forgiveness thing, especially when it comes to the causing of little children to suffer.
I would consider myself the mysterious way that would make people wonder about His vengeance.
Attended the Memorial Service yesterday for a young man (23) and his Mother that were murdered by the step father/husband. No known problems in the family from any source. After shooting them with a shot gun, he set the house on fire, drove a ways up the road and then committed suicide. We have no answers/reasons but I hope that he is burning in the deepest pits of hell. We were robbed of a damn fine young man with his entire life ahead of him and a God fearing Christian woman that was an angel on Earth.
Douay-Rheims Bible
When your life could end in seconds, cops are minutes away. You gotta save yourself.(and I used to be on The Job)
I think it fair to say that the police are there to serve the interests of society, as a whole. They investigate the crime, and seek to find the perpetrators, to reduce damage to society.
Avenging the dead and redressing the victim’s grievances are secondary, and not required in the system.
One must mind ones own interests, and those of ones freinds, family, and associates. Because the State might -not-.
Ask a cop why they carry guns. (Hint: It ain’t for YOUR protection.)
The only warning shot should be aimed center mass.
But, it’s Hyannis, Libtard bastion of Cape Scrod (Cod), Mass-hole-chusettes.
Warning shots are almost always a very bad idea. Unless one is certain of one’s aim, and certain the boom-catcher will 100% catch the boom, -someone- may eat that effectively stray round.
And it tells the perps you are -not- willing to kill, not yet anyway. They may use that to kill you. Again, bad outcome.
I generally advise women and handicapped that the -first- clue to the violent perp that he is in a gunfight should be the muzzle flash that kills him. You are already -way- behind the curve, playing catch up. You ar likely -grossly- outmatched in violence use experience. Your hesitancy is probably in his plan. Your actual willingness to -fight- may trigger an enraged response and heightened violence. You have already lost in the “avoidance” fight by getting cornered or ambushed into a me-or-him lethal force encounter. Don’t lose the “survive” fight.
Any sworn LEOs and Corrections folks, feel free to chime on on this aspect of perp 101. It is sadly unknown in most decent folks.
Yup. Gravity can be an indiscriminate bitch.
Good thing that farther has a carry license on his own property. Dumb fucking media does it again. What kind of cereal did he eat that morning and what is his favorite tv show since we are injecting irrelevant information into the article to appear relevant and important.
Dude, it’s Massivetwoshits.
It’s REQUIRED that you have your gun locked up (or trigger locked) even in your own home. So far as I know, MA is the only state with such a requirement.
He’ll be lucky if he doesn’t catch a charge for negligent discharge.
Sparky, that is what I was thinking. If you do not have the firearm “In your Control” meaning, on your person, it is supposed to be locked up. Being a denizen of the DPRM, with a LTC, I have a fiream on my person all the time. Biometric lock on my bedside container for the dark hours.
DO NOT FIRE WARNING SHOTS! Who thought this was a good idea? If you are going to use a firearm in defense, shot the threat. You fire a “Warning Shot” you better know where that round is going and then sell your guns and turn in your LTC. It would not surprise me if they charge the father with Discharge of a Firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
I have drawn a firearm once in my life and that stopped the threat. That is not in their graph, wonder why?
AW, as your graphic so accurately depicts, gun control is politics/propaganda. Propaganda like this is always about politics, because politics is all about obtaining and keeping power. Propaganda is always politics; it is about persuading people to believe things that aren’t true, but are necessary for the peeps to believe so the politicians (aka corruptocrats) can control them.
Only took some 29 comments to get there, but we made it. Thanks, rgr769.
What was that about “tracking like a puppy on a leash”? (grin)
We had, what 7 different potential threads? Three regular feel good stories. the good riddance to the pedophile and the biblical sideline. Add that to the headlined survey, you got possible gun control, politics, and as rgr769 pointed out, propaganda, makes it nine (9)? Good times.
Around here we call it “Every day.”
