In Regard to That Trek Northward

| October 29, 2018

Migrant geese

A caravan of Central American migrants attempting to reach the U.S. border took a rest break on Sunday, stopping in Tapanatepec, Mexico.

Tepanatepec, in Oxaca, is here:

https://www.foxnews.com/world/migrant-caravan-stops-in-mexico-same-day-mattis-says-us-military-is-deploying-resources-to-border

The news came the same day that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis announced that the military has already begun delivering countermeasures to the southern border.

The caravan, which has included as many as 7,200 people and is currently approximately 1,000 miles from the closest border crossing with the U.S., has become a major issue with less than two weeks before the Nov. 6 midterm elections.

Note that number: up to 7,200 people, not the 17,000s that were indicated elsewhere. This need to exaggerate is one of the worst characteristics of the lefterd media’s bad reporting.

The trekkers are doing about 30 miles a day now, and Hurricane Willa was threatening to exploit their difficulties by making landfall, but dwindled to a moisture source for the next USA Nor’easter.

Check Accuweather or the National Weather Service for updates on Pacific storms off the southwestern shores.

Per the article: The Mexican government says more than 1,700 people in the caravan have applied for asylum and that other people have gone home, Reuters reported on Saturday. Honduras, according to the report, says that 4,500 Honduran citizens trying to leave have recently come back to the Central American country. In addition, Reuters reports that the government of Mexico has offered jobs to some of these people but that has been turned down. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-immigration-caravan/central-american-caravan-moves-on-in-spite-of-mexico-jobs-offer-idUSKCN1N10Q8

Well, so much for the “good neighbor” thing. They get offers of jobs and say ‘No’, or they give up and go home, and they will meet with barriers set up by the U.S. military when they get to the US/Mexico border.

To summarize it: the various reports of numbers, from 8,000 to 17,000, were incorrect from the get-go. It was about 4,000 at the start, then grew to 10,000 and then drew down to the current 7,200 count. Jobs were offered to them in Mexico and were refused. Some 4,500 Hondurans have given up and gone home to Honduras. And you’ll find in the article that when someone asked the marchers to wait their turn for the sandwiches and water being handed out, those ungrateful twerps chased him and beat him up.

Nice people. My neighbors don’t act like that. They are civilized.

If the reports are coming from the scene, I don’t believe the reports. If the reports are coming from the Mehican gov’t, I sure as hell don’t believe them. And if the reports are coming from a do-gooder outfit of any sort, they’re just not worth even reading. What I believe is what US surveillance is telling the administration, but no one is sharing that with us just yet.

I should google “what is a Jersey barrier” but since I’m already on the site, I’ll ask you.

E-6 type, 1 ea

A Jersey barrier is a plastic barrier you can fill with water or sand.

2/17 Air Cav

A Jersey barrier is the land mass that separates jersey from saner states south and west. The Jersey barrier also refers to the language handicap that exists when people from New Jersey try to orally communicate with people from most of the rest of the country. Lastly, a Jersey barrier is also called a temporary lane divider and traffic router the presence of which results in sideswipes and crashes. I hope this helped!

BlueCord Dad

Hey, I resemble that remark!(lifelong Joysey resident)😎

Yeah, I know. We all have our crosses to bear.

Are you from Joisey or Jrrrrzey? I’ve heard both versions.

They need to put the word out that any ANY INVADER that steps foot on U.S. soil will be shot on sight! Thats what ANY country worth its salt does to invaders!!! Anyone that says that is not so, is not an American imho!

Perry Gaskill

The reports aren’t just off with the numbers, they’ve also been contradictory in matters of declared policy. In a speech to the marchers a few days ago, the chief of the Mexican national police is reported to have said his officers were there to provide safe passage and protection as the caravan moves north.

Meanwhile, the Mexican government has announced that immigrants who register will be granted refugee status if they remain in the two southernmost states of Mexico. A policy which would seem to follow international law concerning asylum. Such an offer has also apparently attracted only a small number willing to follow the rules.

The two separate policies are not complementary, and what appears to be happening, at least it seems to me, is that the Mexican government wants to aid and support a violation of U.S. sovereignty while trying to cloak the fact that’s actually what they’re doing.

Alberich

This need to exaggerate…

At least they’re not billing it as a “Million Maduristo March” or something.

LC

I’m not sure which sources Ex-PH2 is reading, but all the big, bad media sites I’ve seen have had 7K as the high-water mark – generally from the UN estimate:

[1] https://www.cbsnews.com/news/caravan-of-central-american-migrants-continue-north-despite-warnings-to-turn-around/
[2] https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/28/americas/migrant-caravan-profiles/index.html
[3] https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2018/10/24/migrant-caravan-updates/
[4] https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/26/world/americas/what-is-migrant-caravan-facts-history.html

No idea where the 17K is from, but the ‘exaggeration’ seems to be that the media is exaggerating.

10thMountainMan

There were a spat of stories in September about President Trump offering to help Mexico deport 17,000 detained migrants. CNN probably flubbed the stories and ran with the clickbait.

Poetrooper

What I see as an exaggeration, LC, is your exaggerated necessity to find exaggerated fault with postings on TAH.

You seem to enjoy the role of gadfly, always professing your conservative bonafides but constantly defending liberal entities and their positions on issues.

By the way, gadfly is just a nice way of saying, “Pain in the ass.”

LC

Not exaggerated fault, just merely fault. You can’t rail against ‘fake news’ by making fake claims.

As for professing conservative bonafides, I don’t recall ever doing so. Nor liberal ones, for that matter.

Ret_25X

Actually, the 7,000 number is merely an estimate from the Honduran government. As there are two, not one “caravan”, the numbers are an attempt to add the two.

7,000 can be taken with a large grain of salt, because to support this “organic” movement of military aged young men is likely not included in the “caravan” number, but rest assured, they are not going home either.

This entire thing is a set up to lure the weak minded into believing that orange man bad, no skill “migrants” good by portraying the mob containing individuals of special interest and criminals as “innocent young families seeking a better life”.

How life in Central American nations is to ever get better when all of these “fine young families” leave them is anyone’s guess, but then, improving the lives of brown people is not on the agenda of our loving, gentle, and kind left, is it?

5jc

So um, dying to ask… what’s the military going to do when they get here?

2/17 Air Cav

Scare them. Maybe a funnel effect. Who knows?

desert

Shoot ’em! They have enough other options, they don’t want them, that tells me they are MS-13, muslim terrorists, NWO plants, or some other scum sucking vermin that needs exterminating! imho

Hack Stone

Have them all get on line, then start policing the area for cigarette butts.

Combat Historian

Run the shitters for the illegal aliens as they cross the border under the protection of a federal court order signed off by an oboobi judge…

5jc

My military training and experience says the best way to handle shitters is to contract it out to cheap foreign labor. If only there were some available.

SFC D

Legally, what exactly CAN the military do? Local BP is never in favor of military assistance, because assets that should be patrolling the border are training and supervising military personnel that really can’t do much anyway. Great optics but a real waste of effort.

10thMountainMan

I think the way that the Posse Comitatus act is upheld currently permits the Army to assist border patrol under the command of the border patrol. But the President can invoke the insurrection act in The face of sanctuary cities and then use the Army to directly enforce laws.

The whole thing is sticky. Glad I’m an electrician.

SFC D

About all the military can do on the border is observe and report. Army Engineer units built a lot of the existing border fence in AZ, but for the most part, military assistance to CBP is more of a distractor than benefit. Unless we’re intending to use military force to stop this parade of illegals, it’s eyewash.

2/17 Air Cav

Send in the Coast Guard. No Posse Whataever worries.

2/17 Air Cav

Plus, the Rio Grande is a navigable waterway. This is the best of both worlds. Yes, deploy the Coasties!

desert

What do you mean legally? They can kill the damned invaders thats what they can do, and thats what the Presidents main duty is, the protection of our borders and sovereignty!

Who knows…a US Military award, similiar to the Mexican Service Border Medal, may be created for those troops going to the border…🎖😉

Some Guy

30 miles per day, for weeks on end? That’s actually pretty impressive. I always hated ruck marches and only once managed to complete one without getting any blisters (I blame the lowest-bidder DLATS boots), let alone being sore the next day. Then again, how much weight are they humping?

2/17 Air Cav

No, that’s the three-day estimate based on the rides some of them are getting. They are not walking 30 miles per day.

Poetrooper

Roman infantry, which walked EVERYWHERE, and therefore had the most marching experience in the world, could only do about 25 miles per day on a consistent basis.

Pardon my skepticism, but somehow I don’t believe these paisans have feet quite as tough as Roman infantry.

Carlton G. Long

Healthy young men cannot march 25 miles per day…much less women, children, the elderly, an so on

From what I saw on the Active Duty units going to the border, they will be providing medical screening, Legal advise (taking asylum requests), and some construction. No assistance to BP or surveillance.
Jersey Barriers are reinforced concrete (not plastic fillable with sand or water) moveable barriers often times used on highways, 32″ in height by 24″ at base.

for more information on variations such as Texas or Alaska Barriers, aka T-Walls.

rgr769

So, how are these barriers going to stop them, since they routinely scale 30 foot metal walls?

Hack Stone

They plan on placing signs reading “Illegal Alian Free Zone” in Spanish on the barriers. Always works those “Gun Free Zone” signs.

nobunny

Sign says:

“Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.”

“Taco Bell or Bust”

The Other Whitey

I dated a girl in high school who was from a Bronx Puerto Rican family. Her dad was a Navy Senior Chief stationed at North Island.

She told me that the first time her mom saw a sign for Taco Bell was in Texas. They had just gotten married, he was assigned to NAS Corpus Christi, and it was her mom’s first time outside NYC. Her mom—a native Spanish speaker—thought it was a Mexican phone company.

The Other Whitey

Well, this is interesting…

A 1984 New York Times article titled “Jesse Jackson Crosses Into Mexico to Denounce An Immigration Bill”:

Good, if the lying , chippy S.O.B. tries to come back, SHOOT HIM TOO! lol

This 2017 Fox News article about Al Sharpton’s Tweet in response to President Trump’s Executive Order on Immigration still has me chuckling.

Sharpton tweeted: “Before you head to church today, remember to thank God for his son, Jesus a refugee who fled to Egypt.”

Great comments back to Sharpton on what he tweeted. And he is supposed to be a Reverand? A Reverand of what?:

Al Sharpton is a refugee fleeing from the IRS and only worships at the altar of Al.

If the military does not have the authorization to protect our borders from any type of invasion, it should be given said authorization. That is my opinion. To me, it is pure and utter bovine excrement that we protect the borders of countries all over the world with our military, but we can’t/don’t protect the borders of our own Country. Never thought about it, just figured it was left to BP as a way of dividing the turf and helping to create another bureaucracy level. Learn something new every day.

CNN tying the Caravan and the Pittsburg shooter together and blaming Fox News:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/29/media/pittsburgh-suspect-invasion/index.html

It’s Trump’s fault really. You notice the shooter wrote the word “Trump” on the internet sometime, somewhere. Therefore every bad thing he ever did was Trump’s fault.
