I knew something smelled fishy today. Happy Birthday Squids.

I had some sudden family business that took me out of town today, thanks to all for picking up the slack.

Particularly that Gravey Lady.

Ex-PH2

Happy to do so.

But I swear, one of these days, I will find you and pull a hair out of your nose.

2/17 Air Cav

His nose hair isn’t natural. I know. I saw him sneeze and blow two patches of hair into his hand. It was more funny than gross, especially when he thought none of us saw him turn away and put them back in his nostrils.

Ex-PH2

Nose hair toupee, huh? I thought so.

Thank you for the morning laugh!

If you do, his toes will curl!! 😉

Go Navy, beat Army!

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, well, that’s gonna happen again, just not this year. Army’s opponents are 22-7 and Navy’s 15-14, with Hawaii accounting for 6 wins in both of those records, the only common opponent thus far this year. Did I mention that Army beat Hawaii and that Navy didn’t? If not, I meant to. Hell, Oklahoma (5-1) had to go to OT to beat the Black Knights.

Go Army. Beat Navy, Again.

Navy played perennial champion and legendary powerhouse Temple today. Navy lost but by only 17 pts. Army played San Jose State and took it easy on them. Won by only 49, 52-3.

Congratulations Navy for hanging in on the long haul.

And a big fat hand salute to John Paul Jones, who chased down the British ship Serapis and after a 3-hour cannon fight, slammed the Bon Homme Richard into Serapis. When the Brits asked him if he was ready to surrender, he responded “I have not yet begun to fight!””

And another to Oliver Hazard Perry, whose nine-ship fleet engaged a British fleet of six at Put-in-Bay at the western end of Lake Erie, using his two 20-gun brigs Lawrence and Niagara at close quarters. His friend, CAPT James Lawrence, who was mortally wounded, gave him his flag blazoned with the legend “Don’t give up the ship”. While Perry sailed the Niagara across the enemy line, the British ships Detroit and Queen Charlotte collided while maneuvering to keep up with him, became entangled in each other’s rigging, giving Perry the advantage of firing down the length of both ships. The Royal Navy’s four largest ships subsequently surrendered while Perry’s smaller ships captured the other two.
In his report to GEN William Henry Harrison, Perry included this message: “We have met the enemy and the are ours.”

Just a little Navy history for you landlubbers.

Happy Birthday Navy!

I’m putting on a couple Nav insignia and breaking out the good scotch.
So many traditions to celebrate, such as our unofficial motto, FTN. From Navy Hx: The next day after Congress authorized the Navy,
“…while swabbing the deck this motto was first uttered by Seaman Peter Studley on the USS Hannah and quickly picked up by the rest of the crew.”
I’m proud to have carried on the 243 year tradition of muttering this motto.

Looking forward to reading about some Fake Navy SEALs next week! Some Meal Team 6 members are probably getting liquored up right now celebrating the Navy birthday. They’ll be doing warrior stuff this weekend with do-rags, face paint, chaps, motorcycles, and leather vests.
