The Stakes Are Higher Than Ever
From the Wall Street Journal online last night:
The Kavanaugh Stakes
A vote against the judge is a vote for ambush tactics and against due process. — by Kimberley A. Strassel
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-kavanaugh-stakes-1538088433
“The Ford-Kavanaugh hearing consumed most of Thursday, and unsurprisingly we learned nothing from the spectacle. Christine Ford remains unable to marshal any evidence for her claim of a sexual assault. Brett Kavanaugh continues to deny the charge adamantly and categorically, and with persuasive emotion.
Something enormous nonetheless has shifted over the past weeks of political ambushes, ugly threats and gonzo gang-rape claims. In a Monday interview, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski noted: “We are now in a place where it’s not about whether or not Judge Kavanaugh is qualified.” Truer words were never spoken. Republicans are now voting on something very different and monumental—and they need to be clear on the stakes.
To vote against Judge Kavanaugh is to reject his certain, clear and unequivocal denial that this event ever happened. The logical implication of a “no” vote is that a man with a flawless record of public service lied not only to the public but to his wife, his children and his community. Any Republican who votes against Judge Kavanaugh is implying that he committed perjury in front of the Senate, and should resign or be impeached from his current judicial position, if not charged criminally. As Sen. Lindsey Graham said: “If you vote ‘no,’ you are legitimizing the most despicable thing I have seen in my time in politics.”
The stakes go beyond Judge Kavanaugh. A “no” vote now equals public approval of every underhanded tactic deployed by the left in recent weeks. It’s a green light to send coat hangers and rape threats to Sen. Susan Collins and her staff. It is a sanction to the mob that drove Sen. Ted Cruz and his wife out of a restaurant. It is an endorsement of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who kept the charge secret for weeks until she could use it to ambush the nominee with last-minute, unverified claims. It’s approval of the release of confidential committee material (hello, Spartacus), the overthrow of regular Senate order, and Twitter rule. It’s authorization for a now thoroughly unprofessional press corps to continue crafting stories that rest on anonymous accusers and that twist innuendo into gang rapes. A vote against Brett Kavanaugh is a vote for Michael Avenatti. No senator can hide from this reality. There is no muddy middle.
The print edition is available at newsstands this morning. The entire article is worth your time. “Due process”, the element of legal proceedings that protects even the most heinous criminal from the lynch mob, is under severe threat now. Read the article, read it twice, tell others about it.
I replied to the other thread from AW1Ed on this earlier, but I disagree with this premise.
The Republicans screwed the pooch on this whole farce when they agreed to an open hearing without any corroborating witnesses or investigation. The Republicans know they have a few fence sitters, all they did yesterday was give those fence sitters a way out of voting for Kavanagh.
It will be interesting to see if the Republicans sack up as a team or the Flakes in fact flake off like the giant candy asses they are. Is there a more pathetic Senator in DC than Flake? He makes weakness a stock in trade. Now he was given a golden ticket to Flake out…all he has to say is that Dr. Ford was compelling enough for him to recommend a full investigation and Kavanagh is finished and with less than 45 days to go on a nominee the Republicans will be hard pressed to pull off a replacement before the midterm vote.
We’ll all know shortly what kind of sack Flake and a few others have…
Flake is, apparently, voting to confirm, per a headline I saw on CNN.
All in all, I don’t know if Kavanaugh is guilty or not, but I think a Kavanaugh confirmation is the worst possible option for the GOP,.. and thus, if modern history is anything to go by, it’ll happen. This isn’t to say anything about his character or judicial acumen, just to note that this story isn’t going away and his plusses -that’s he’s a conservative vote- are outweighed by his baggage. The GOP could got all the benefits with no of the downsides with, say, Barrett.
Kavanaugh has lied about minor things (eg, drinking legally), and his Yale peers called him out saying he definitely got black-out drunk at times, so there will be more to this story in the future, and somehow having a SC justice under prolonged investigation doesn’t seem prudent to me. Especially if the political tides shift in the midterms.
I honestly wonder why they didn’t go with Barrett.
Here’s today’s lesson kids brought to you by the letters L and C…
When things get tough, just quit.
“All in all, I don’t know if Kavanaugh is guilty or not…..”
You were on the OJ Simpson jury weren’t you?
Call me crazy, I’m in the camp that an investigation should be made to determine the truth as best we can, not simply pick our ‘truth’ based on political affiliation.
Do you have all the facts? How do you know he’s innocent?
“Do you have all the facts? How do you know he’s innocent?”
How absurd. Unsupported ancient allegations are not proof of anything. We now know you don’t much care for presumption of innocence.
There is far more evidence that the accusers are liars than there is of K being guilty.
You do realize that most people who’ve experienced something like this don’t come forward right away? And there isn’t hard evidence? Chris Wallace from Fox News just talked about how his own daughters told him stories that happened in high school that he’d never known about. Not as serious as this, but again, people coming forward much later, and without evidence. That’s unfortunately more common than not with this sort of thing, for many reasons. Right now, across the country, cases like this are in courts all the time – except, generally, there are investigations done to lend merit to what is, nearly inevitably, a ‘he said / she said’. That’s not doing away with the presumption of innocence, it’s recognizing that generally people don’t sexually assault someone in full view of recording devices and with multiple witnesses, so the sort of ‘hard evidence’ you want is rarely available.
I can say confidently that if a thorough investigation was done, I’d accept its conclusions – regardless of whether they say there’s zero reason to believe he did anything wrong, or there are reasons to believe he acted inappropriately. Can you say the same? If so, isn’t an investigation the proper way to resolve this?
No matter what the standard of proof used, Ford’s allegation fails. The lowest standard is the preponderance of evidence standard. It requires reliable evidence that, when weighed, points the truth needle at least a hair closer to true than not true. A bald allegation w/o any evidentiary support doesn’t move the needle. The next standard is clear and convincing evidence. There is no clear evidence, other than Ford’s self-serving testimony, that the incident she described occurred. Again, all there is an unsubstantiated and uncorroborated accusation. That isn’t going to come close to meeting this standard. The highest standard is beyond a reasonable doubt, the standard that would have applied if Ford had filed a criminal complaint, a prosecutor agreed that a crime occurred and that Kavanaugh most likely committed it, a judge agreed, and the case actually went to trial. No matter which standard one uses, each fails. And I might add that I conclude this w/o Ford being cross examined by someone out to cut her flimsy tale (and tail) to ribbons. No wonder she never filed a civil or criminal complaint. She would not have had any of the support in a courtroom that she has in the Senate. In a courtroom, she actually would have to prove what she claims. It’s too bad Ford didn’t want an investigation. Her politically motivated apologists now do but she never did. She made the bed that Kavanaugh never shoved her onto. Now, she can lie in it. And that should not be a problem–lying, that is.
LC,
This has noth8gn to do with truth. The Dems want to block Kavanaugh. They will do and say whatever that takes. This has been clearly demonstrated.
Any delay will simply see more accusations and demands for more delays.
Even you have to see it. So either you are closing your eyes to the monsterous reality of the democrat party as currently practiced, destroy anything you cannot out vote,
Or, you are a willing participant in Democrats Uber alles.
She lied. They used her to get at him. She isn’t the last.
Except this political theater had nothing to do with the truth or whether or not Dr Ford was actually assaulted or not.
This was played out exactly this way because the Democrats only care about stopping the nomination before the election. They have zero desire for the truth. If they had any desire for the truth they’d have brought this up in the beginning of August when they received the information.
It was played this late knowing if an investigation was started there could be numerous delays and perhaps they could get one or two Republicans to hold off the vote until after the midterms. If the Democrats lose out and don’t control the Senate at least they can tell folks they gave it a shot, but if they win the Senate they can tank Kavanagh and play gotcha for Garland.
That’s what this is about and has always been about.
You might be the only person actually interested finding out the truth and willing to accept it, the Democrats on the committee were never interested in the truth or protecting Dr. Ford.
Actually Feinstein first received this information 15 July as I recall.
And sat on it for the purposes of hopefully delaying until after the November elections.
So you actually think the Democrats plan is to block all of President Trump’s SC nominees until 2020? Because otherwise, they don’t gain much from this. Even before this debacle, Barrett looked good, and now she looks incredible – if she’s nominated now, she gets confirmed instantly.
If you can argue that Democrats are playing politics and don’t care about the truth, it’s just as easy to point out Republicans clearly don’t either,… else there would’ve been an investigation earlier.
I want the truth – or, as best as we can get given the circumstances. And an investigation will give us more information than we have now, won’t it? I will repeat what I said before, even if I wish it weren’t limited to one week, if the investigation finds no merit whatsoever to doubt Kavanaugh’s testimony, I won’t have any reservations about sitting on the SC. If they do, shouldn’t that disqualify him?
“So you actually think the Democrats plan is to block all of President Trump’s SC nominees until 2020?”
Yes. They’ve pretty much said as much.
You seem to think asking for an FBI investigation of a crime they have no standing to investigate (state crimes) is reasonable? It sounds reasonable until you think about it. What’s to investigate? She can’t remember when and where it occurred. These investigations are hard when they happened last night with identified parties all still residing in the same area. This investigation will turn up nothing, because there’s nothing there!
This doesn’t even count the issues with the FBI’s credibility when it comes to political investigations the last couple years. You think they’re going to find something on a supposed assault from 36 years ago when they couldn’t find Hilary’s 30,000 emails?
Oh, you want the truth, do you, LC? OK – YOU can’t handle the truth.
Christine Blasey was one of many drunken highschool girls at HER school. She got blitzed at party, probably at ALL the parties at he school. Someone MAY or may NOT have snapped her bra strap, but she did NOT report unwanted touching, period.
And the REAL truth is that all of us women were told in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and onward to report such things immediately. That’s the truth. She didn’t do that. She can’t even remember who got her back to her dorm. But she cant remember clearly someone she didn’t even know, who may NOT have even been at that party and says he was not – she can remember all of this quite clearly, which means that she is making up all of this shit and getting paid to do so.
That’s the truth, and you can’t handle it, you numbskull.
She’s lying.
He is not.
And it is on YOU to prove otherwise, dorkwad.
Lots of people are told to report such things, but few do. After the Kavanaugh story came out, Fox anchor Chris Wallace talked about how his own daughters told him of things that happened during high school that .. ready for this?… they never came forward about. Not as severe as the allegations against Kavanaugh, but again, people often don’t come forward. People in these situations also don’t always remember all the details.
What are you so afraid of with a little investigation? I mean, the fact that Kavanaugh already has to carefully make it seem like it was legal for him to drink in high school is eye-roll worthy, and his Yale classmates are calling him out over his insistence he didn’t drink too much. Mark Judge’s ex-girlfriend said he confided in her that there was a gang-rape of a woman (not necessarily Ms. Ford, mind you), and .. well, shit, there’s lots worth looking into.
At the end of the day, again, if the FBI says the guy is squeaky clean, put him up on the SC. I honestly still think that’s the worst path for the GOP, so I’ll laugh my ass off. Barrett is, far and away, a better, safer choice, but hey, self-inflicted wounds in politics are definitely entertaining.
I’ll see what the FBI says, then make my decision. Like any sane person should. Obviously, I leave you out of that category of people.
“I’ll see what the FBI says, then make my decision. Like any sane person should. Obviously, I leave you out of that category of people.” Thus sayeth LC!
Oh. My. God!!!! Oh, holy Mother of Jesus! Are you aware that labeling someone as mentally ill, simply because he disagrees with your opinion, is libel? Do you think I don’t know how to find you?
You aren’t interested in The Truth. You want everything YOUR way, you birdbrained control freak.
The LAW says ‘innocent until proven guilty’. There is NO proof of anything. Period. He said/she said is NOT proof, under the law.
And for YOUR information, you are completely incorrect in saying that FEW people report any kind of assault. You must live in a bowl of cotton balls if you think that’s reality. I see reports of sexual and other assault regularly in the newspapers, you moron. And for YOUR information, it is sexual battery, NOT assault. You obviously do not know the difference between those two terms, which makes you even dumber than I thought you were the first time you posted a comment taking up 17 pages of space.
I’ll await the court summons, Ex-PH2. In the meantime, here’s some statistics for you:
Only 3 in 10 sexual assault cases are reported (RAINN):
https://www.rainn.org/statistics/criminal-justice-system
And from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 63% of sexual assault cases are not reported – note that this is older data than RAINN uses:
https://www.nsvrc.org/statistics
Finally, here’s the NIJ saying that 26% of sexual assaults are reported:
https://www.nij.gov/topics/crime/rape-sexual-violence/Pages/rape-notification.aspx
So, yeah, I’d say 1/3rd is ‘few’. We live in a country of 320M people – of course you’re going to see stories in the news. That doesn’t mean most cases are reported.
And the LAW (since you like to capitalize things randomly) says innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Day in and day out, sexual assault cases where no video or photo evidence exists are tried in court rooms across this country because, in what will surely be a shocking surprise to you, most people don’t try to rape or assault others in broad view of witnesses, cameras, etc. There can be no evidence and yet if the prosecution proves their case and a jury finds a defendant guilty,… they’re guilty. Even without evidence. Generally in these cases, it comes down to -another shocker here, prepare yourself!- the credibility of the people involved.
If you want to debate the philosophical issues with the judicial system there, go nuts.
Finally, battery vs. assault (vs. offense) varies state by state. Maryland, currently, doesn’t define sexual battery, as far as I can tell – they define sexual offense in varying degrees. No idea what the law was years ago, and I don’t think you know either. You want to get hung up on semantics, though, there ya go.
And yeah, I’m interested in learning the truth, as best we can.
“If so, isn’t an investigation the proper way to resolve this?” Please ask MZZZZZZZZZZZ. Ford to file a complaint in the jurisdiction in which she alleged she was done harm. That’s where the investigation belonged, but she opted to do nothing. Even in Maryland, it is a crime to swear falsely.
She was sworn in at the testimony, I believe – it’s a crime to lie there, too.
Yeah, and you’ve never heard of people lying under oath, have you, LC?
AirCav’s point seemed to be it’s a crime to swear falsely in Maryland. My point was that she doesn’t need to file a report in Maryland to be in legal trouble for false statements now.
Okay, you’re crazy. There’s no reason to discuss it. The problem with the reasonable person standard is that it requires a reasonable person for it to be applied. And you don’t qualify.
Yes, heaven forbid I wish to get to the truth.
Keep banging your head against that wall but we can tell you that you will only get a mushy head out of the deal.
You got some sort of devining device that will magically present the truth? That is the only way you can possibly get it at this late date from this distance. There is no legitimate law enforcement agency in the country that would even make an effort to “investigate” something like this – a crime that may or may not have happened we aren’t sure when, have no idea where but probably in MD, and can’t remember who else might have been there. Let me tell you this one more time: THERE IS NOTHING TO INVESTIGATE! Your wishes don’t alter that reality.
This has nothing to do with the truth. It has everything to do with power. You think they give a shit about Ford? She is just collateral damage to the dems cause. They could have nominated Mr. Rodgers (I know he’s dead) and the exact same crap would have happened. Lets get Booker and Blumenthal tell everyone how to get to the truth. Pure bullshit.
The truth is her witnesses deny her allegations, she sat silent until just this moment, she lied about not being able to make the hearings on Monday for fear of flying, and she can’t remember anything about this supposed incident other than she in suddenly 100% certain it was Kavanaugh who assaulted her for an incident that was not rape; despite what the left attempts to accuse the man of.
Thus far that is the truth per the evidence.
Are you so delusional as to think that a supplemental background will reveal more than is known now? Do you expect the FBI to administer polygraphs or to locate the Scoobie Doo mystery house? What is it that you think the FBI could possibly do, beat a retraction from ALL of those who were ID’ed by Ford as being present but who said they have no knowledge of what she described? Maybe they will use hypnosis to dig up non-existent, deeply buried memories. I got it! You are hoping that the FBI will kick in Judge’s house and find a videotape of a drunken orgy in a shoe box in his closet. Or is it that you hope enought corrupt FDIers remain that agency to fabricate evidence.
Uh, yes. That’s exactly what happens. They dig into the facts, and as a result, .. we know more afterwards.
Uh, no again. I’m not hoping they prove the allegations. I’m hoping we learn more to cut through the bullshit and can make a more reasonable estimation of whether Kavanaugh deserves a seat on the SC or not. If they say, “Nothing here whatsoever – everything bad you’ve been told about this god of a choir is wrong, and he’s the second coming of Jesus”, great, vote him in. If they say, “Well, we found multiple independent people who can show he’s lied about X, Y and Z, even if we can’t prove Dr. Ford’s allegations”, then maybe he’s not the best fit for the SC.
I see you’ve made up your mind already though by assuming the FBI is going to make up evidence. Good grief, you need a tall drink of reality some times.
You really are delusional, LC. You are the worst kind of juror. When someone is accused of anything, no matter how minor, you AUTORMATICALLY ASSUME that the accusation is REAL instead of false.
The law says ‘innocent UNTIL PROVEN guilty’. What part of that is bnyond your limited comprehension?
Anyone want to take bets on how many pages LC cranks out to promote his idiot argument?
How about multiple FBI investigations and background checks going back years that didn’t turn up anything like this until some mentally ill girl with a rape fantasy about him decided to file a report with a politician instead of the police?
How about the Democrats deliberately withholding this letter for months even though it could have been brought up privately and investigated early on?
Face facts, LC: The Democrats are basing their hopes on bogus testimony that won’t hold up in a real court.
I have no love for the Democrats, you realize. I don’t know why the letter was withheld for so long, only, arguably, to protect the accusers’s identity.
That said, there’s a difference between a general background check investigation and a directed investigation saying, “Look at these allegations”. Surely you know this.
Look at the background Ford has, she’s Soros-funded and filthy!
So Soros is so all-powerful and clever that he anticipated the Kavanaugh nomination and had Ford tell people about this years ago, just in case?
Come on. Once again, an investigation is the only sensible course of action.
Is the FBI also going to investigate Ford? As you said, credibility is important, and watching her testimony did not give her much. For one thing, for having a PH.D in Psychology she seems remarkably , uh, “detached”, , un-selfaware, and ignorant of her situation. Or maybe she’s just over medicated.
And, since you are supplying links, how about a link to Kavenaugh’s alleged claim of drinking legally, and a link to his Yale classmateS (plural) seeing him blackout drunk.
My thought was Barrett was always the better choice, primarily because having the Democrats on national TV pounding her over religion would play well for the Republicans right before the election.
They will do to him the same. The details will vary, but some unprovable allegation will “require getting to the truth”
Ain no republicans gettin confirmed to dat dere court no more. No suh.
I should have stated, AMY Barrett….they were pounding her for her religion when she was appointed to the lower court.
I thought that would make a great impression on the public, Democrats hounding a woman for believing in god…the Republicans could have worn that like a badge of honor right into a strong midterm series of wins.
But she is a devout Roman Catholic, not just religious. And how can she support an organization that condones and abets pedophilia, denies a woman’s right to choose,…….
Same sleaze, just different subjects.
This is spot on. I called that ball as soon as the short list of nominees came out. Any male nominee, be it Kavanaugh or Mister Rogers or Jesus of Nazareth was going to be sacked by frivolous #metoo claims.
Amy Barrett would have been immune to this bullshit. It also would have been a bonus for the sane folks in America to watch the Democrats blasting her for daring to believe in God.
Immune to that particular bullshit. Nobody will accuse her of attempted rape. There are plenty of other bulls in the Democratic pasture.
“If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him.”
Cardinal Richelieu or François-Marie Arouet, you pick.
I never realized that the good Cardinal was a Democrat …
excellent!
To quote the great Tom Lehrer–
“…When correctly viewed,
Everything is lewd.
I can tell you things about Peter Pan,
And the Wizard of Oz is a dirty old man…”
Would not have mattered if they’d gone with Barrett. There would currently be a Democrat activist who he had forced into child sex slavery 40 years ago testifying before Congress. Same for anyone else Trump would have nominated.
“Kavanaugh has lied about minor things (eg, drinking legally),”
I must have missed those things. Perhaps you could show me.
Flake said he will vote FOR the confirmation…as for White, she is a whore of the lowest kind, took money to sell her principles (if she ever had any) her honor and integrity to another dumocrap whore feinstein, imho!!
Recent reports say Flake, Collins, Murkowski, Donnelly, and Manchin are all going to vote YES. Wonder if any closet conservative Dems will sack up and vote yes as well?
As for people criticizing Kavanaugh for his tears and outbursts yesterday; honestly put yourself in his shoes. You’ve went through SIX background checks for previous appointments and they show NOTHING. Out of the blue someone points a finger with just an ALLEGATION with no corroborating evidence and 30 YEARS of stellar service gets second guessed. On top of that your family receives hate and threats as well. As a MAN, i’d be mad as hell as well. I found him to be way more credible that Dr. Ford. Between her giggling, “uhh-ing” and “I don’t remember”…..im truly amazed it made it this far.
Manchin has had a picket up his butt from the fence he has been planted on. He’s looking at re-election and it will not be a cakewalk. I haven’t read anything that he has come out and said he will vote to confirm. I hope you’re right on that.
The tears and anger came across for me like another spoiled rich kid born with a silver spoon in his mouth being denied what he considers rightfully his. It didn’t come across as the genuine sadness or anger of a wrongfully accused man so much as another pissed of rich guy being told he might have to take his ball and go home.
Don’t misunderstand me, I like Kavanagh on the bench I think he’s a good judge. But I also think he was never the good first choice just prior to midterms. I always thought Barrett was a better choice for optics because you’d have the Democrats the party supposedly pro woman beating Barrett up over her religion AGAIN on national TV….if that doesn’t piss off evangelicals and get them into the midterm voting booth then keeping the Senate can’t matter that much to them.
His whimpering and sniffing and going for the water does indeed show his lack of “combat” experience. He should have taken up boxing instead of tennis.
But for a spoiled rich kid he does have a pair, even if he had to reach for them.
He hasn’t got “quit” in him.
He is willing to put up with -all- of their shit, and won’t quit.
He flat out openly defied them, effectively dared them to do their worse.
That is one -strong- soul. Most other folks would have bailed long ago.
I see that the Commies are promising that Kavanaugh will be impeached when he is confirmed. Bwahahahahahahaha. Based upon what? What sordid bullshit will they come with next? Cripes. There isn’t enough popcorn to go around. They have totally lost whatever semblance of reality-based thought they had remaining.
They are overlooking their -disastrous- misstep.
When he is confirmed, he is -not- going to forget this. He is likely to maintain his prior even-handed ness. However, that in no way obligates him to forget reality, or forget the nature of who is backing future appearances before the Court.
I said that last night after watching his opening statement. Any chance they had of a “moderate” SC Justice in him is out the window. He will be the most conservative judge imaginable.
A lying communist shythead professor who WISHES SOMEONE would have groped the ugly bitch! Thanks frankenSTEIN you worthless bitch! imho
I asked a rape survivor about her thoughts on this (for the record, she’s discussed it as far as she was willing with me in the past, and brought the subject up first) and her first response was that Ford isn’t plausible. The shifting number of people at the party, the lack of remembering of the location, and the completely missing person who drove her home were massive red flags. My friend hasn’t forgotten any of that, and never will.
Ford’s entire testimony is a crock of crap. It was nothing more than an emotional ploy that proved absolutely nothing beyond the Dems incessant desire to play identiy politics, and their willingness to burn someone in an effort to advance their agenda.
All that remains to be seen is if any of the swing votes that have committed to confirming Kavanaugh decide to flake out at the last second.
As a female “survivor/victim” (whatever) allow me to say I find her story to be to dubious because of the hyperbole involved in multiple aspects. For instance: “Worst moment of her life”? Good lord.
I know we all handle these things differently, but her small voice and uptalk about an event that occurred nearly 40 years ago made my BS-o-meter peg out.
“her small voice and uptalk about an event that occurred nearly 40 years ago made my BS-o-meter peg out”
Thank you so much for that nobunny. I have a decades old family situation that parallels your thoughts. The “mousey” whimpering was a tell for me.
And thank you, Limabeans.
I have been reading this website for years. I reserve my comments for something I know a lot about, and they’re usually pithy.
I know about this, through my own experience and professional life. That is, 14 years of public service.
I could go on for pages about this.
She spoke like an educated psychologist who knows how to appear a certain way.
She portrays herself in what she thinks is a sympathetic and truthful and innocent* manner. I don’t think she is as good a psychologist as she thinks she is. I think she is a phony.
*See def. 2a;
“Definition of innocent
1a : free from guilt or sin especially through lack of knowledge of evil : blameless an innocent child
b : harmless in effect or intention ……Ex. searching for a hidden motive in even the most innocent conversation.
2a : lacking or reflecting a lack of sophistication, guile, or self-consciousness : artless, ingenuous

My baby sister and I were discussing, a couple of days ago, how the selling of wolf-tickets by people like Ford only results in making things ever harder for those who have actually experienced this kind of depravity.
Ever harder to be heard and believed.
Yes, that’s exactly why I chimed in. We will never be believed as long as people weaponize sexual abuse allegations and sling them around with ulterior motives. Accusations will be met with the question “What’s your angle?”
Also, note not a single real tear was shed.
And, sadly, it is the reason why accusers such as Ford need to be investigated also.
Justice, unfortunately, requires cynicism.
She should be FIRED by the college for being a lying phony bitch and also lose any retirement, let the whore go work the streets! imho
I was raped at young age. I am. in my 60s and remember every detail. I also had someone “put their hands on me” 3 times while in the military and remember every detail. My commander and 1st Sgt chose to do nothing the first 2 times, so I gave up. The last time, I was told I would be sent home from a deployment because the man “was married and had a child”. Thank God for Chief B who was my champion and protector. My belief is that she is lying. Because I remember every detail.
I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach we’re just picking the uniform of the group that dashes the ship upon the rocks.
The Republic is dead, Long live the Republic.
It just might go the other way, you know. There is only so much crap that people can swallow without having had enough of it.
While this is almost a circus in itself, I do not think it is over yet. I’m quite sure that DiFi has more snake oil stuff up her sleeve.
There is another side to this that a lot of people are missing: the voyeurism that has accompanied this quackery of bad taste has also inspired people who go on rumor and innuendo instead of facts to exhibit the bad behavior we saw last spring at a restaurant in Virginia, chasing Sara Sanders and her family out of it and threatening them with harm.
If this kind of thing continues, with the real possibility of someone getting hurt (already happened) or killed, how long is it until the REAL backlash sets in at the voting booths?
This is something none of the idjit Dems have considered. Supporting that quacking old clodpole Feinstein will give them all a bad rep that will carry on down the road, in my view.
Robespierre flogged the mob into frenzy, to destroy the opposition.
It then turned on him, and he dropped his head in the same basket as his foes.
Frenzy has no master. Mobs have only blood lust, not loyalty. Beware.
Karmic law is something that most people do not understand.
Have been a rather observant political junkie for a lot of decades. The Watergate hearings were the first which I followed closely, although I was fascinated by the much earlier debates about Kennedy’s ability to act without instruction from the Vatican.
Without doubt, this mess is the absolute most disgusting bit of political melodrama I have seen or even imagined. The tactics used to acquire and maintain power has strayed into territory I can only describe as evil, a word I almost never use. Trying to watch it became impossible at times – it was so distasteful, so hateful, no negative that it felt as if continuing to tune in could cause irreparable damage to the viewer. Utterly insane at times. At others, being a voyeur to the intentional infliction of pain by a member of the Senate upon a US citizen was impossible to endure.
There will most definitely be political fall out from this, perhaps for a very long time.
Until yesterday, I had not considered Dr. Ford to be a victim of anything other than her own choices. Perhaps I was not the only one who saw her yesterday as an unwitting pawn of the left being victimized on national TV along with Judge Kavanaugh.
It began with Bork, then Thomas. This is in outer space on the continuum of bad behavior by spoiled lefties.
Remember that proverb? Pride goeth before a fall – something like that.
I’m just hoping that this display of bad behavior accompanied by prevarication will have its effect in a few weeks, and for many, many years to come.
“I’m just hoping that this display of bad behavior accompanied by prevarication will have its effect in a few weeks, and for many, many years to come.”
That is my great hope and prayer for the Republic, Ex-PH2.
unwitting pawn, my ass that lying bitch knew just what she was doing and getting paid for imho!
And, not coincidentally, the reptile Patrick Leahy is involved in all of them. The state of Vermont should be punished for inflicting that thing on the rest of us for over 40 years.
There were a couple of bright spots in this event yesterday, but not to whether Ford or Kavanaugh were telling the truth or lying.
Ford is either a really good actor, or she had a very troubled youth in high school (those rich white kids always seem to have it so tough in high school).
A bunch of Senators probably haven’t been spoken to by anyone, let alone someone they are confirming, probably since they were in high school.
Diane Feinstein can 100% vouch for her whole staff and that’s cool. Even if she can’t recall if she asked them such an important question or not. (I think her and every member of her staff in both offices should be called to testify under oath about “leaks” to see if they leaked this and/or anything else.) See how quickly they throw out the 5th amendment 57 times.
Lindsay Graham should be acting this way a lot more often. If he did, maybe he’d get more respect from the military and veteran community.
My facebook feed is overwhelmed with discussions about credibility, courage, etc., and their point of view hasn’t changed one bit since the first time this store broke. The liberals still side with Ford and say she’s “credible” and he’s a monster and so angry. The conservatives doubt her and say she still can’t provide any evidence, but enjoyed Kavanaugh ripping into a bunch of entitled royalty sitting up in their thrones acting like they are infallible. And so on.
What it really comes down to is that Ford is definitely a victim. The problem is she’s a victim of politics and so is Kavanaugh. No one is really calling out the politicians on their own side yet again using people as political pawns that’ll get thrown away once they are no longer useful.
Lindsay Graham should be acting this way a lot more often. If he did, maybe he’d get more respect from the military and veteran community.
He doesn’t have McCain’s petticoat to hide behind anymore. It’s sink or swim time for Graham, and I hope he delivers a few more verbal beat downs to the donks/socialists in the Senate.
Ding!Ding!Ding! BINGO!!! We have a winner!
“He doesn’t have McCain’s petticoat to hide behind anymore.”
It might be more like McCain squelched him frequently, told him to shut up, and Graham simply did so, for undefined reasons.
Bushwhackers, backshooters, and drygulchers all. Hanging is too good for them. Hearing that weasel Blumenthal spouting off about integrity made me want to puke.
Don’t forget Spartacus Booker who admitted to groping women, but for some reason still has a Senate seat and is already running for President?
Blumenthal and Booker should both be shown the door.
“Blumenthal spouting off about integrity made me want to puke”

There are no surprises in any of this.
Good graphic in that link.
Just waiting over here in my corner for more shoes to drop.
Blumenthal, he of the Semper I school of thought? Mr. Vietnam veteran who never set foot in country, you could fill a pissant’s condom with everything he knows about integrity and still have enough room to use it for its’ intended purpose.
For the edification of those who weren’t there, like Blumenthal, the photo with Blumie’s face photo-shopped into it is a photo of an Army Infantry Captain wearing the early war jungle fatigues. He is carrying an M-1 carbine, walking ahead of ARVN troops. He is likely a MACV military advisor, circa 1967. (The new style jungle fatigues were, I believe, being issued in about 1968, as I bought a set at Ranger Joe’s and our Ranger Instructors were wearing them in November, 1968–Claw can prolly give us the exact info, including the FSN.)
Democrats Uber Alles!
The blackheads goon squads will be along shortly to enforce it.
The mask is now off the donkey. Does sanity prevail, or do they escalate again?
Many were concerned with the “optics” of a bunch of old white republican men grilling the ” sainted” Dr Ford. I think much worse was the vision of that marble mouthed drunk Leahy, nimrod Durban And ratfink Blumenthal speaking
Got this from an OKIE 3 Shipmate.
36 Years Later…
1982, Party was held but she didn’t know who she was with or how she got home. She was drinking and said nothing to anyone.

2017 – She becomes an anti-trump activist.
2018 – Now 36 years later, with Kavanaugh’s SCOTUS confirmation looming, she pens an anonymous letter with grave accusations against Kavanaugh regarding foggy circumstance that occurred while they were both minors, then reveals herself and wants an FBI investigation before testifying to her incredible allegations?
Who does she think she is?…….and then there’s this picture of her and George Soros…hmmm….Can anyone else see what’s REALLY going on here?
Is that a real photo, or something that may have been photoshopped?
Photo? I can’t find the link.
If what I was emailed by a relative is what is referenced, Yeah, that’s not her.
Who cares if she is in photo with the aging Nazi collaborator. Her so-called lawyers are being paid by orgs he funds.
There is an article in the local newspaper this morning about “funding” for the political parties and how the GOPers get all these huuuuuge sums of money from Big Donors, but the Dementeds get the bulk of their contributions from small donors.
The author conveniently ignored the $22 millions donated by Soros to the Dementos over the last 12 months.
I believe it is called intentional memory lapse, to avoid the inconvenience of the truth.
Well, since you didn’t respond, I went looking for that alleged photo and it is NOT Blasey Ford with Soros. It is Ludmylya Koslovskya, a Polish human rights activist. The difference between her and Blasey Ford is noticeable; Ford is much older and looks it, hair is not the color of Ford’s hair and the facial features are NOT Ford’s.
Not defending Ford. I think she was put up to this nonsense and paid for it, but that is NOT her in the photo.
Ex; when I copied and pasted the above 36 years later, there was a photo of a woman that had the name ford next to a person that was supposed to be soros but the pic never came up when I pasted it into the comment window. I got the email from a shipmate from Ohio.
Jeff
Trust, but verify.
This ambush of Kavanaugh was set up by Dem (on) activists and this woman in 2012, when Kavanaugh was named as a possible Supreme Court by Romney, had he won. That was when the “psychologist notes” were created, and Kavanaughs’ name “recalled” from her memory.
These monsters have already reserved the website name “stopamybartlett” and have probably prepared a similar set of lies for her.
The problem I see in the Dems actions in declaring war on all consevatives is that the mainstream of conservatives are starting to believe them, and may respond in kind.
I hope not, for that path leads to Bosnia, or the Kansas Missouri border war.
I would rather live in peace, but I may not have that luxury.
John in Indy
Kavanaugh’s reputation is shot. Over something that hasn’t been proven. He should still be confirmed to the SCOTUS. What’s going on is delay delay delay until after the mid terms, who cares about this person, Kavanaugh, he’s not going anywhere, so says the Democrats. They THINK they will win seats and have a say on who is recommended to the SCOTUS. The level at which they will go just to stop someone, a good man, from being confirmed is beyond belief. VOTE VOTE VOTE. This is sad. Before pointing fingers, have some facts on hand.. All I’m hearing is she says he says.. 35 yrs ago. Teenagers.. Drinking….party…Tell me again YOU remember him but not where or when.
As long as we are re investigating things, let’s open up the Hillary server thing again.
Also there have been payments made to congressional staffers because of sexual harassmentf by congressmen and senators. The names are secret. Release the names, that is tax money.
Roger that, on Due Process.
I am astonished at how the Left does not appear to have any concerns over that issue at all.
Absolutely none of this surprises me. The article, Ex-PH2’s posting (fine job by the way, you go girl), the entire fiasco from yesterday, the weaseling of the other pols today. Guess y’all seen the evening news by now. Late to the parties today, Dr. appt and went provision hunting gathering @ the K Roger store. GO VOTE…GO VOTE…GO VOTE!!! DRAIN THE SWAMP. ‘pears like ol Flakey took up where McStain left off. Self centered, egomaniacs, that are all blowed up with their own self importance, the country be damned. FIRE THEM ALL, Hire new ones. The evil we know is not better than the evil we don’t know. Resistance is NOT futile. We refuse to be assimilated. It is our country. We want it back. Tell your friends.
Senator Snowflake is suffering from a broken taint, because the tea leaves show him losing the AZ primary by a huge number of votes. This possibly is his swan song for having relevance, and he’s milking for all it’s worth.
Can’t wait to get to the other side of all this.
Why does it always come down to one freakin idiot? Flake, Collins, and McCain*.
Seems everything is decided that way.
*(Dead)
Several journalists commented on Kavanaugh enraged demeanor. If you have no honor, it’s difficult to understand why those who sacrifice to keep theirs do not lightly tolerate others questioning it.
WORD.
Neither Honor, nor Integrity, do they have.
The Brett Kavanaugh hearing fiasco is illustrative of the Alinsky tactics of the progressives to tear down the institutions of this great nation so as to build them up to how they imagine them.
If successful what we’ll all get is Venezuela II. As long as they’re in charge I doubt they’ll care. The ramifications of this miscarriage of their responsibilities as leaders will have long reaching affects.
Oh, the Hypocrisy!!
There ya go! But we know they’re not serious about true sex crimes; or any other crimes committed by the Clinton’s, their enterprises, or their Crime Foundation.
Ha! Forwarding that one.
The Democrats are the party of lynching. Did you expect anything uplifting or righteous from them?
So where was Mr. Ford during all of this.
I saw Kavanaugh’s wife sit there all day without even the hint of a smile but where was Hubby? And what about his closet?
Maybe he is the villian. Liberals consider all sex (including consentual) as rape so why is he not caught up in this fairy tale?
She has two teenagers, both of them boys. If they don’t wear pussy hats, and that’s a big if, she’s in for some payback.
They likely don’t want to talk about this shit-show because they would have to admit “mom is crazy.”
“Mom” suffered from BDS for many years but went into remission when the great one appeared. After eight years of bliss she went into full TDS.
It’s a common progression and may be fatal if Trump serves a second term.
One can only hope.
