Gowdy requests records related to allegations Pentagon spokeswoman misused staff
The Washington Examiner reports Congress is investigating allegations that the Pentagon’s chief spokeswoman misused and retaliated against staff.
House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., has ordered the Department of Defense to produce records pertaining to the allegations against Dana White, according to a CNN report.
Gowdy wrote to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on Tuesday to request “all documents and communications to, from, or about Dana White regarding her tasking other Department employees with non-official business,” and “all documents and communications to or from Dana White regarding the transfer of staff to different positions” by Sept. 7, and to arrange a briefing for the committee by the end of the month.
White, a Trump administration appointee and the department’s top public affairs official, is under investigation by the Pentagon inspector general for asking staff members to get her snacks and pantyhose from the Pentagon pharmacy, pick up her lunch, drive her to work, and do her mortgage paperwork, according to previous reports. Staffers who reported the behavior complained to the inspector general they were later transferred as a reprisal, according to CNN. The investigation is ongoing.
The letter notes that the allegations raise “questions about whether the Department’s senior managers receive proper ethics training,” and requests documents and training materials for senior officials related to ethics and management responsibilities.”
When asked by CNN Thursday about the letter, DoD spokesperson Col. Rob Manning said, “This is an ongoing review and therefore we are unable to provide additional comments.”
Innocent until proven guilty, but really not surprised at the allegations. Happens all the time, but who does she think she is, the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy?

Ex-PH2, as far as picking up things, I think the below posters nailed it. Team work. If a subordinate was heading to the PX and said Chief, do you need anything? I could very well have said, sure, how about a box of rubbers, extra large please. Working on the home mortgage paperwork is an example of you cannot fix stupid. That and transferring subordinates for complaining may qualify to dump her sorry butt. However, the unfortunate realty is because of her race, she will probably dodge the bullet. And, I do not say that with vicious intent, just the voice of experience.
I agree, Club Manager. I wasn’t look at her ethnocentricity, only at the way she is reported as having treated people who work for her.
I’ve run errands for people, too, but it’s because I asked them (like you) if they needed anything. That’s not the same as ‘pick up my shoes at the cobbler and pay for it, and give me a ride home, even if it’s out of your way.’ Not even close. I think her “status” went to her head.

Sure, I’ve asked “underlings,” and peers, for that matter, to pick me up something when they have already announced they are going there anyway. And I have asked if anyone wants something from wherever I am going. That is called teamwork or give and take. Nobody is being abused.
But to ask someone to buy personal items or work on personal financial docs? Nope. Out of bounds.

Well, there was that one time when we were training in FL as a hurricane came in. We had to abandon our tents for a hard structure. The OIC and I had to ask others to pack up our bunk areas for us because we were required in the CP until past time to move out. Didn’t really like asking others to do even that.
The Vice President of the proud but humble woman owned business that sells software to the federal government asked Hack Stone to help him with his mortgage paperwork. Hack said “Sure. What do you need me to do?” He replied “Pay my mortgage.” That May be why the corporate headquarters had to relocate from Wilson Lane.
So what else was on the shopping list?
Why do these political appointees think that a government job is like their own little kingdom?
Is this a problem of people coming from the private sector, where at will employees will do anything to keep their job? Or is this just people getting a bit of authority and letting it run to their heads? Probably a little from column A and a little from column B.

Give me an ever-lovin’ break. Ethics training? I suppose that if one pissed in another’s flower pot the suggestion would be, “Well, we have just learned that some senior managers did not receivePowerPoint Potty Training. We’ll be addressing that immediately.”
A former Secretary of State was able to dodge charges on all kinds of malfeasance since their is no documentation of her completing the necessary training in federal records management, classification of government documents nor cyber security.

This woman is not a newby to government. She was a staffer for Songbird McCain and should be well schooled on gov ethics. When will this administration learn to stay away from hiring Never-Trumpers. They seem to go out of their way to embarrass the president.

I learned my lesson on asking subordinates to do personal favors a long time ago. I asked a speedy four track mechanic if he would drop off a small package for me at the post office on his way back from the company HQ to the motor pool. He said “sure, no problem.” A few minutes later, I was looking out my office window, and saw him throw the package into a dumpster. Didn’t even break stride. Gotta respect the Sp4 mafia.
I hope she is unceremoniously kicked to the curb. The old “but nobody officially told me I couldn’t…” excuse is worn out.
