Tuesday morning feel good stories
From Danville, IL
An intruder may have been wounded by an armed homeowner. Police responded to a home in the 900-block of East Fairchild Street, about 12:30 am, Sunday.
The homeowner reported hearing loud knocking before seeing two men in his backyard. The homeowner told officers he heard someone enter through a window and saw the intruder with a gun. He fired several shots causing the intruders to run away.
A person of interest, being treated for a gunshot wound, was questioned at a the hospital but was uncooperative. Officials say, at this time, they’re not able to connect him to the crime.
From Jacksonville, FL
A Florida man broke into a home and armed himself with the homeowner’s home defense shotgun, only to have the homeowner gain back control of the gun and shoot him.
David Marrero told WJXT he arrived home from work at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday to find his place ransacked. When he went to his bedroom to investigate further, he encountered 25-year-old Brandon Nicholas—whom he had met a few weeks earlier—in the process of escaping out the window. As Nicholas turned and saw Marrero, he pulled Marrero’s own shotgun, which he had swiped, and pointed it at him. “I got out of the way as fast as I could and he started talking, ‘Man I’m not going to shoot you,’” Marrero recalled.
Nicholas might have told Marrero he wasn’t going to shoot him, but he evidently had other ideas. “That’s when I heard the first click,” Marrero said. Thankfully, Marrero’s shotgun was unloaded. “He insisted, ‘Man I just want to talk to you. I just want to talk to you.’ By that time, he crawled back inside the window,” Marrero said. “He’s walking backwards with the shotgun on me the whole time. By midway through the hallway, I recognize the guy. I’m like, ‘I know who you are.’ And then I heard another click.’” Marrero tried to reason with Nicholas. “(I told him), ‘I promise you, just leave. You got my gun. You got my money. Just leave. I won’t call the cops until you leave,’” Marrero said. “‘Just give me my shotgun. You’ve taken everything from me.’ And then he got mad and slams it on the couch.”
Sensing an opportunity, Marrero grabbed his home defense shotgun, loaded it and aimed it at Nicholas. Marrero then started demanding his belongings back from Nicholas, but the would-be burglar instead started leaning over to look at one of his bags.Things turned physical from there.
“I took my gun around and flipped it around and I smacked him as hard as I could in the back of the neck with the buttstock of the shotgun,” Marrero said. “He started to crawl back a little bit and he said, ‘I got something for you now. I got something for you.’” Marrero says Nicholas then reached inside his bag. “So when he reached in his bag, going to stand up, I said, ‘Don’t do it.’ And then that’s when I shot him.”
Nicholas managed to flee the scene, but was found by police about a mile away after a report of another shooting nearby. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and now faces charges of burglary and committing an act that could cause death.
Marrero’s wife Alisa Stuart told WJAX that her husband called her and told her that Nicholas had broke in “through the window. He ransacked the house. He stole our cash and I shot him in the knee,’” Stuart said.
Crime is reportedly a growing problem in the area.
“Everybody on the street is armed and ready to fire,” Stuart said.

Crime, in Jacksonville Florida? You have to be kidding. Of all Florida’s cities, I dislike Jax the most.
Shot him in the knee? to hell with that! Aim higher, and shoot more often imho!
Floridaman strikes again! As a kid I thought Carl Haaisen was just being hyperbolic.
Roh-Dog gets cool points for the Carl Haaisen reference.
“Crime is reportedly a growing problem in the area.”
Has been for a very long time. too.
Crime is reportedly a growing problem in the area. – article.
Stating the obvious without a /sarc tag loses the writer some minor points.
On the one hand, many, many homeowners are armed out of necessity now. They just don’t announce it. On the other hand, crime is a growing problem almost everywhere. Seems to be a balance there.
Buttstroke to the head of a perp who just pulled the trigger twice on you with your own shotgun? Hell no – shoot him the second you got it loaded!
And then he only shot him in the knee. Center Mass is more effective.
Shot him in the knee. That’s going to put a limp in his gimp for any future crime activities.
Shot in the knee, I guess the perp really “Kneeded” that.
Where is the “like” button?
I suspect that Marrero and Nicholas have not seen the last of each other
Non life threatening injuries. From all evidence, they were trying to talk each other to death. Textbook case of how to get yourself killed by a burglar.
so we have a guy in IL who will soon lose all he owns to the state as he is railroaded and a guy in FL too stupid to aim center mass.
What a bad day.
