The Air Force says that they found the missing M240 machine gun that disappeared a few weeks ago at Minot Air Force Base;
In a release Wednesday evening, Minot officials said agents from the Office of Special Investigations carried out a search warrant on the airman’s home Tuesday, where they allegedly recovered the machine gun.
The release did not contain any further information on the airman or other details, citing the ongoing investigation.
The 7.62mm weapon was discovered to be missing during a weapons inventory check May 16, prompting OSI to get involved.
Someone is going to jail.

Minot Air Force Base loses machine gun — two weeks after losing grenade launcher ammo
Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota on Thursday said that an M240 machine gun is missing from its weapons inventories.

But that wasn’t the start of Minot’s weapons woes. On May 1, a crate of automatic grenade launcher ammunition fell off a Humvee on a nearby Native American reservation. Minot officials searched for the grenades for about two weeks, but their efforts were fruitless and the hunt was called off.
The high-profile — and embarrassing — weapons losses led to the firing of 91st Security Forces Group commander Col. Jason Beers, as well as superintendent Chief Master Sgt. Nikki Drago.
Beers has a new job in the works, however — he’s slated to become chief of the installation division at Air Force Special Operations Command later this summer
Way to screw over your life, airman.
He is SOOOOOOOOOOOO fucked.
Yeah, I know. I almost feel bad for him….actually, wait, I don’t.
He fucketh himself.
He DORKED THE SQUEAKHOLE!
Soon enough, his SQUEAKHOLE WILL BE DORKED!
In his defense, I’m sure it just followed him home without his knowledge.
No one will notice this one little weapon not being there….
Jeez what an enormous dipshit.
And, this surprises y’all?
I thought they would find it behind the couch, or in the garage next to the lawn mower and snow blower.
Why did he have to cop the MG. He could have gotten a 1950’s back issue of Popular Science magazine and mail ordered a French Chauchat MG that had a plug in the muzzle. I hope I spelled the Frog MG right.
Kinda what I suspected. Betcha they will also find a box of 40mm grenades too. Always one dumbass who thinks he is smarter than everyone else!
I actually thought it was a paper work error and that the records carried one too many or something. But, noooooooooooooo, it had to be some idiot who actually thought he was smart enough to get away with stealing it. And once you have it, unless you are on a first-name basis with a Mexican cartel member, what the hell are you going to do with it? Knucklehead.
Isn’t that what EBay is for?
Dumb ass probably thought the grenade launcher ammo would work in the M240 too.
Did I already call him a dumb ass before, or is it okay to be repetitive in this case?
I think repetition is required here…
What a DUMBASS!!!
I think the term STUPIDASS handily applies to him and I’m surprised he didn’t make an even more brilliant decision like trying to sell it to an Undercover BATFE or FBI Agent.
I wonder if the cost of ammunition ever crossed his mind….
if it did cross his mind, I’m betting it had plenty of room in their to do lots of crossing…
sigh…*there…what I get for trying to participate in a conference call while surfing TAH…
I followed that.
Yeah, me, too, but when we got there we weren’t.
I didn’t even realize you made a mistake until you pointed it out. Not sure if that reflects badly on you…maybe just me.
There is no there, there.
Give the poor guy a break, he probably just wanted a little extra firepower for upcoming deer season? He more than likely blew his mouth to his buddies about his latest aquisition as well??
I can just picture him showing off his new ill gained “gun” to his buddies. “Hold my beer, while I charge this sucker up”!
Hey! He was just taking it home to study it as part of his homework assignment on weapons detailing and maintenance!
This will not look good on his resume’. And I’m sure the NRA is somehow to blame. PTSD defense in 3, 2, 1…
Does this model M240 have a “bump stock”?? (grin)
No, but it actually DOES have a “part that goes up in the back”
It also has a scary flash processor.
But I can’t see the thing where the knife hooks on.
Right below the chainsaw attachment.
I bet his ass is gonna feel like it has a Bumpstock when the inmate orientation committee gets a hold of him.
What if you put a bump stock on a select fire weapon?
Then it will have ability with a .30-caliber clip to disperse with 30 bullets within half a second. Thirty magazine clip in half a second.
So using DeLeon Math 2.0™ the fully automatic machine gun will fire .60 caliber clips, 60 rounds within a half second. 60 magazine clip.
Guess the commander will remain fired.
I always enjoyed the parts when in I was in command of units where I was held responsible for the dimmest light bulb on the tree and had the tools taken away to show him to the door even when I could demonstrate how worthless he was. Post 9/11 was the worst. You could not kick anyone out for a decade short of a court martial… even then.
They didn’t fire the secfo group commander, they gave him another command at Hurlburt. Only as the Installation and Facilities CC. Still, he got PCS orders from ND to FL- a 3-year vacation with pay.
He should have filed off the serial number.
I lol’d
Yep, that would have saved his ass for sure.
I’d like to ask him what plan B was. Craigslist? Youtube? Middle of the ocean once those two didn’t pan out.
Seriously, folks. What is the military policy on polygraphing those suspected of criminal activity? Now, I know they can’t literally hold one down and hook them up, but can they hold their career over them, telling them there would be no further advancements if they did not agree to the polygraph? Anyone have any experience along those lines? Genuinely curious here.
Gun show loophole, gun show loophole, gun show loophole!!! This wouldn’t have happened if we had more sensible gun control!!!!!!
Or something.
And it’s Trump’s fault.
MANDATORY BACKGROUND CHECKS for MG thefts!!
So does this qualify for the coveted “Titty in the Wringer” prize or does the clown get the walking turnip award ?
Stolen from the Air Force and then was actually dumb enough to keep it at his off base home?
Did he really think that the MP’s wouldn’t think to check his house or trace back all the people that were near the weapon when it was stolen ???
It was probably signed out to him when it came up missing.
Darwin Award here as he won’t get out of Ft Leavenworth before he has lost the ability to get a woodie…
Probably an Arms Room video somewhere as well…
I hope he rats out his co-conspirators. At Balad in 2009 I think CID took down a Filipino ring that were stealing all sorts of stuff from Supply and then selling it on post to anybody stupid enough to buy it. Night vision stuff was part of it.
Who knows…the Airman may be a she instead of a he…female instead of male… gal instead of guy…
And I’m not talking about transgender…
Can you say ‘dishonorable discharge’? See, I knew you could. Great job.
Can you say ‘ruined life’? Hey, great job.
DD, probable jail time, a lifetime of menial, low paying jobs. One moment of stupidity and his life is over.
Wonder where this thing would have ended up? Mexico so it can be used against her citizens or our agents? For sure he could not take it to the range or dispose of legally. Damn, the stupidity is strong in this one.
That’s just what I thought. Heck, if you snagged a M16A2 most people at the range would figure it for an AR, as long as you didn’t get stupid with the giggle switch. But a M240, well, you can’t mistake that for anything. And unlike the good ol’ M2, which has been around long enough for some civilians to get them on Class III FFL’s, I don’t think ANY M240’s ever saw the civilian market.
So, was/were the individual(s) responsible for during the serial number inventory of the weapons (that is an AF thing, right?) doing it on time or not (because apparently that’s how the loss was discovered)?
That’s a lot of stupid to be contained in one person.
Once they start the very large, public investigation you’ve got two choices. Make it disappear or go “hey look, I found this behind the dumpster! Think it’s important?” Third choice is always to fess up and save everyone a lot of time, but a thief is a coward, so they don’t do that.
Like an old chief used to tell me, we don’t catch the smart ones.
Why didn’t he say that it was a replica 3D of the missing one that he built including the serial number.

Did he also steal the tripod for the SF role? You really need the box set.
