School shooter foiled by resource officer in Maryland
According to Fox News, there was a school shooting in Saint Mary’s County, Maryland. Three injured people were taken to a nearby hospital. One of the casualties is the shooter – there are no reported deaths in the incident [Editor Update; the shooter has died];
The Associated Press reported one of the three people injured is the shooter. The shooter’s identity was not immediately available. ABC 7 reported a school resource officer jumped into action to bring the situation to an end.
The school was placed on lockdown and students were being evacuated to Leonardtown High School to be reunified with their parents.
From WJLA;
ABC7’s Brad Bell said sources tell him the shooter was a student and is one of the three injured. Bell says a school resource officer took action to end the threat and authorities confirmed the incident has been contained.
Who knew that a good guy with a gun could end a school shooting?

This one hits home in a huge way- both of my sons graduated from Great Mills High School, and I pass it to and from work just about every day. I drove by this morning and knew something bad had happened- every LEO and EMS in the county was there. No conjecture, but early reports say the incident was personal and not a random shooting. The School Resource Officer halted the shooter. No fatals, three ctirical including the shooter.
Steny Hoyer is reportedly on the way to get his face on camera, so we all can feel better. /sarc
Well at least this had a decent outcome.
Let’s hope the other students heal quickly.
The shooter? Fuck him.
School Resources officer? Give him a big fat bonus/raise.
Agree- this was about the best outcome one could hope for.
The only thing that would make it better is if the shooter was DEAD.
Which, I’m pleased to report, he is.
Stone. Cold. Dead.
Done in by the school’s Resource Officer … who, unlike his compadres at Parkland, actually did his job.
The Florida shooting could have ended like that if the school SRO didn’t run away like the PUSSY he is!
I’m struck by the fortuitous timing of this event. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there supposed to be a gun control rally this weekend in Washington D.C.? Talk about having the wind taken out of your sails.
The ghouls will be dancing in the blood of the innocent in furtherance of their Jim Crow agenda.
This one on the 24th?

Co-opting a long-time Holocaust slogan.
The left wants Gun Control because an Armed Populace will NOT quietly march into boxcars.
There will be tens if not 20’s of people at the rally depending on the optimum camera angle.
UNPOSSIBLE!!! Shannon Watts told me that good guys with guns NEVER stop a shooter!
That useless waste of skin around a vagina?
That’s the one!
Somehow the MSM will spin it to where it is all the NRA’s fault.
So predictable it is boring.
Or Trump’s
Embrace the power of “and”.
Trump colluded with the NRA
and the NRA is really in Putin’s pocket. So, ergo, Trump colluded with the Rooskies. /s
RNC really stands for “Russian’s Not Conservatives”!!!!
Way to go Resource Officer. Standing up to an asshole and doing your duty to protect students. RIGHT ON!
Wow! A school resource officer who is not a coward and does his job. And he knows how to hit the target, who ended up DOT, so we don’t have to support him in the pound for the next X number of years.
See what happens when the good guy with a gun isn’t a fucking coward?
Oh come on! Those deputies were just chicken out the situation.
snerk
I wonder if these kids will start protesting the common thread in all these shootings…troubled kids. A gun and a magazine don’t kill…its the hard heart/troubled/confused mind of the shooter that does the work.
Protesting the NRA & President Trump is a way putting where it doesn’t belong. The blame goes on this generation that thinks they can solve their problems with a gun.
BZ to the officer. The SOP for a resource officer in his/her AOR is engage and neutralize. Again, well done.
It’s never about the actual event, it’s about the narrative that must be maintained.
At 8:28 Am PDT the county sheriff confirms that the shooter has expired. Todt, died, passed away, Morta, ceased to exist, Well, Bye!
As long as the shooter is the only fatality.
^^^^^ THIS^^^^^
Good riddance
This shooter is no more! He has ceased to be! ‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace!’Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-SHOOTER!!
He is no longer the shooter, he is the shooted.
He is Norwegiand Blued.
A little monty python goes a long way, LOL
Fox is reporting that a young lady was critically injured – prayers for her survival and her family.
A young man was also injured, but fortunately is not critically injured.
The SRO is reportedly unharmed.
Fleafeces is now permanently “late” to school.
BZ to the SRO for stopping the shooting.
Someone do up a PowerPoint and send it to the Coward County Sheriff’s Office for their next in-service training session!
The ghouls have already started. From a local e-zine:
“Thoughts a prayers will accomplish nothing only if MD passes universal background checks, an assault weapons ban, 10 magazine limit and make all schools a gun free zone will make a difference. Shame on the previous Gov O’Malley for not pushing for these laws before this had to happen!”
Except most of that is already in effect in the PDRofMD, and none would or did anything to prevent today’s incident.
I thought you had to have a notarized letter from Jesus, endorsed by 3 apostles to buy a gun in MD.
“Regulated” firearms, meaning all handguns and anything else not outright banned but still on the regulated list, require the purchaser to undergo an additional Maryland State background check and a seven day cooling off period prior to taking possession.
No, I don’t understand it, either.
God bless Texas!
Here’s the way handgun possession works under the semi-constitutional FSA2013:
– Apply for W&C Permit w/state police
– If passed, undergo 16 hrs. training (including live fire)
[Cost so far: ~$300-$500]
– If not issued; apply for HQL to buy handgun.(Automatic issue with W&C permit) [Cost: ~$150 + MORE training]
– Fill out Form 4473 (MSP does NICS check; ~ 3-7+ days required)
– Sit around for 7 days after “NOT DISAPPROVED” received
– Finally pick up gun.
Working so well in Bmore so far…
If you don’t want to carry, omit steps 1 and 2. If “Not Approved” for a permit (because you have no “Good and Sufficient Reason”), you can appeal to the civilian HP Review Board, that can overturn the MSP denial. NOTE: There is no definition anywhere of “Good and Sufficient Reason;” even the MSP can’t define it.
There is legislation proposed this year to dissolve this board, leaving NO civilian oversight of the State Police.
Hint about legislative mindset here: If you can proceed, the MSP deems you
“NOT DISAPPROVED.”
This is like living in Oz.
From the Texas Department of Public Safety website:
“New laws for Handgun Licensing Program
Summary of new laws passed in the 85th Regular Legislative Session that impact Handgun Licensing.
Change in Fees
Senate Bill 16 Effective: September 1, 2017
Caption: Relating to decreasing the fee for the issuance of an original or renewal license to carry a handgun.
##This bill reduces the standard original license to carry an application fee from $140 to $40.
##This bill sets the standard renewal license to carry application fee at $40.
##This bill sets the Senior Citizen and the Indigent license to carry application fee at $40. In addition, this bill set the Senior Citizen and the Indigent renewal license to carry fee to $35.
##This bill waives license to carry application fees for an Active Texas Peace Officer and Texas Military Forces. The application and renewal fees are reduced from $25 to $0.”

And while I know correlation is not proof of causation, it is my understanding that the crime rate is lower in Texas. Of course, for the Maryland powers-that-be, that may be a feature, not a bug.
No point in even trying for a carry license here unless you can prove a valid threat, own a business and transport large amounts of valuables, or are a politician.
Not to mention that Expended Cartridge Law in the PRoMD that has wasted millions of dollars over decades and has yet to solve or help solve even ONE crime.
This is a tough story for the WaPo and the Baltimore Sun. I feel for them. Here we have the very answer to school shooters that we have been talking about forever and it’s pure poison to the papers.
Reporter: “How the hell do we handle this, boss?”
Boss: “Low key. Very low key. Call it an incident, and include extraneous details to lose the reader. Oh. Check with the DNC and do it quietly, not from one of our phones.”
“gunman dead after incident at Great Mills High School”
Bwahahahahaha. I just pulled that from the Sun, after I wrote my comment.
The breaking story included this: “The Great Mills shooting comes just over a month after a deadly rampage in a Florida high school. Seventeen people died in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, catalyzing a national conversation about gun violence in schools.” Yeah, that’s relevant.
That line winds up in every on-line account I’ve seen so far.
Almost as if there was an agreement to desperately attempt to tie this in with the former shooting – but they don’t realize the compare-and-contrast value of the two incidents.
Graybeard, you should know by now that in the LSMedia, when you have zip, ZERO, NADA, you have to make stuff up to be relevant at all.
And what’s this “school resource officer” shit? I know. It’s how the Left chooses to regard LEOs whose post is a school. Can’t call them police officers or deputies: after all, we don’t want cops in our schools!
This particular SRO is also a local SWAT guy.
The initial reports indicate he fired one shot. Sounds like he’s had some good range time with his service weapon.
If he’s well trained, he double tapped. One is not taught.
Concur – and it may be like a case I read about last night in the latest Shooting Illustrated where a Gunsite Academy trained LEO double-tapped a guy, and ended up creating one entrance and two exit wounds.
Or it may be that one round was all he could safely send downrange, and that is all it took.
I was more making an oblique reference to the “one-shot, one-kill” screed attributed to snipers, given he is reported to be a SWAT-team member for his agency.
Not gonna criticize – could have been anything including that he only had one clear shot. As it turns out, he only needed one shot. I call that a successful result.
It’s not a criticism, OWB.
A better choice of words on my part might have been “second guess” instead of “criticize.”
The dble tap is a drill-it-into-your-muscles and trigger finger thing. There is no squeeze…wait…squeeze…wait. It’s bang-bang. I’m guessing that there were two shots loosed by the LEO and that it seemed like one.
Whatever happened to the triple tap? Seems like in a galaxy far, far away they spoke of that.
The last reflexive fire range I went through prior to retirement, we were told to use the term “controlled pair” rather than “double tap”. Double tap apparently sounds like a mafia hit. Either, it means DRT if applied directly to the forehead.
Controlled pair? Sounds like grabbing a guy’s nuts and holding.
Possibly a well fitting bra.
Any bets on how long before that one shot gets spun into “why did the officer have to kill the child?”
The MSM is attempting to find out who “Momma” is as we wait, then goad her into just that line, with “he was just beginning to turn his life around” tagged on somewhere.
Because only the Lone Ranger can shoot the gun out of a bad guy’s hand. We mere mortals have to shoot center mass.
Depending on the locale, that may be what they are called.
At the local high school, they’re referred to by all parties as School Resource Officers. Also, when I was in high school nearly twenty years ago and on the other side of the country, the Deputy Sheriffs assigned to the school were…School Resource Officers.
What bears note here though is the demonstrated competence of the SRO involved in this particular incident. Others have said that he was also a SWAT officer. That competence and training clearly saved lives in this event. One can only imagine what would have happened had this particular officer been of the ROAD, waiting to retire type.
Apparently, all school resource officers are cops, no matter the state, and state laws vary regarding the training each receives. Only 12 states mandate that SROs receive training specific to dealing with children. I also read that SROs national association is opposed to having anyone but SROs armed in schools. That worked out well in Parkland.
Forty years ago or so they were called “Truant Officers.” Cops assigned to schools to handle anything that came up, but the primary historic problem was truancy. As things changed following the 60’s, school systems changed the name, at least in the schools with which I am most familiar. Looks like the name change became universal some where along the line.
If you go behind enemy lines, what I call reading CNN, the lead story at 1520 hrs is a “Trump accuser” wants blah, blah, blah…Nothing, nada, zippo about today’s school shooting.
CNN Editor: What’s the scoop Sherriff? Death toll? Mass casualties? AR-15?
Sheriff: Shooter dead, school resource officer did his duty. Kid had a pistol.
CNN Editor: Nothing to see here.
Who’s surprised?
It was one of those [“undetectable”] Glocks, they keep saying.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/20/gunman-dead-two-injured-after-shooting-at-great-mills-high-school-in-maryland.html
Update, with a video of our own Sheriff Tim, pics of SRO Deputy Blaine Gaskill, name of the shooter, and a bit more background.
Out of curiosity, I visited the NBC new online to see how the newsies there treated this story of a good guy w/ a gun in a school saving lives. NBC’s big story is that some big-boobed woman named Daniels passed a lie detector test about having done the boink-boink with Trump. That’s followed by a few lesser stories, including one with this headline: “Gunman dies after shooting two at Maryland high school.” And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how to bury a story!
I am amazed that the high school students are not protesting in favor of armed guards in every school
Cant they see that gun free school zones have been a complete failure?
Only armed guards can stop an armed killer
I like the idea of making a business owner liable of something goes bad at their place of business and they’ve legally banned LTC/CHL holders from carrying on premises.
Make them think about it, at least.
St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Press Release on Great Mills High School Shooting Site On March 20, 2018, at approximately 7:58 am, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police personnel responded to Great Mills High School, located at 21130 Great Mills Road, Great Mills, Maryland, for reported shots fired inside the school. Upon arrival, three individuals were discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigation determined on March 20, 2018, at approximately 7:50 am, Austin Wyatt Rollins, age 17, of Lexington Park, entered the school, where he was enrolled as a student. Several minutes after entering the school, Rollins shot a 16 year old female he was acquainted with, in the school hallway, gravely injuring the female victim. A 14 year old male student who was in the same hallway was shot in the leg. The female victim sustained life threatening injuries, and is currently in critical condition at University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center. The male victim was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment and was discharged on March 21, 2018. The investigation is continuing by detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID). At the time of the shooting, School Resource Officer Deputy First Class Blaine Gaskill, was at the school, and responded to a report of a person with a gun. Dfc. Gaskill located and confronted Rollins, who was still armed with a handgun in a nearby hallway. Dfc. Gaskill fired one shot at Rollins, who simultaneously fired a shot as well; Rollins sustained a life threatening injury from the exchange. Rollins, and the victims were provided with medical attention at the scene; Rollins was subsequently transported to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Rollins was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland for an autopsy. All indications suggest the shooting was not a random act of violence. Rollins and the female victim had a prior relationship which recently ended. The investigation has not yet uncovered any public social media posts/threats made by Rollins. Detectives are continuing… Read more »
Neighbors say he was a normal and good kid. I’m guessing that the girl who is fighting for her life, the 14-year old boy who was grazed by one of good boy’s shots, and the SRO who he shot at and who had to kill him would disagree.
“Also last month, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s office said it arrested two teenage boys for “Threats of Mass Violence” and a 39-year-old man on related charges after the teens made threats about a potential school shooting at Leonardtown High School, a high school about 10 miles from Great Mills. Police said they obtained a search warrant that led to them finding semi-automatic rifles, handguns and other weapons, along with ammunition.” – Fox News article
This is what was done a couple of weeks ago after the Parkland shooting, when two idiot teens posted a “don’t go to school” message on social media. In this county, law enforcement takes this s*(*t seriously and does something about it before anything happens.
These two morons were arrested and charged for that threat, even though they both protested that it was a joke. Well, no. It’s not a joke and it isn’t funny, not nowadays.
What in the hell has gotten into people, especially kids? We did stupid things when we were that age, but nothing like this. Is this because kids don’t get punished for misbehaving any more?
